What You Don’t See in a Home Does Matter

When constructing a new home, builders place varying emphasis on different building materials. Brick or siding; hardwood, carpet or tile flooring; granite, stone or laminate countertops are just a few of the hundreds of decisions you make on behalf of your homebuyers. However, there are other decisions builders should consider that can affect more than just the appearance of a home. Those decisions include using good building practices and good building products, in visible as well as less visible areas of the home.

A Big Problem

Inside a typical home, approximately 70 percent of the interior surfaces are covered with drywall, most commonly paper-faced drywall. What many builders and homeowners don’t know is that paper is a potential food source for mold. When the combination of high temperatures and elevated humidity or moisture combine over time with mold spores, it is possible for mold to develop on paper-faced drywall.

Limiting Mold

While there is no way to completely eliminate mold and mold spores, one way to control mold growth in the wall cavities of a home is to choose paperless interior drywall. DensArmor® from G-P Gypsum is a new generation paperless drywall designed as a replacement for traditional paper-faced drywall for residential interiors. The paperless drywall incorporates glass mats on the surfaces instead of the paper found on traditional drywall. Substitution of glass-mat facings for paper facings removes a potential food source for mold.

Whether constructing starter homes or custom homes, choosing DensArmor paperless interior drywall is a sound building decision that can help protect homeowners’ investments. For more information visit www.stopfeedingmold.com.
