You may have heard of Scottsdale, Arizona. However, these days it is this upscale area, Cave Creek, in the shadow of the Tonto National Forest, that is stealing the spotlight as the home of the Phoenix area elite. It must be the abundant natural beauty that attracts Phoenix's well-to-do, as this is the home of Cave Creek Regional Park, as well as the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area.

Of all the amazing area parks, the one we'd recommend to introduce you to the sights and sounds of the desert is the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area, and not just because residents are eligible for free admission. Purchased in 2000, the Conservation Area was intended as an investment in Cave Creek's future. The traditional way to see the desert is of course, on foot, but don't discount biking or even horseback-riding as a scenic way to get around the Conservation area and other local parks. Local business Spur Cross Cycles caters to would-be bikers, with cruiser bike rentals. And although we doubt you'll be driving an ATV through the Conservation Area anytime soon, you can rent one through Extreme Arizona, and explore some of the area's other parks, or even the wild blue yonder outside of Cave Creek borders, south of Phoenix.

If you have children, the best way to introduce them to the beauty of the desert is at the Gateway Desert Awareness Park. Here, playgrounds, gardens, and informational tours gently introduce kids to the Sonoran Desert.

Finally, if you're less of a weekend warrior, and more of a weekend "enjoyer," take it easy (well, easier) at the Rancho Manana Golf Club. It is a championship course, so don't get too relaxed, but golfers will enjoy soaking in the scenery, which includes a dude ranch, amidst a highly-manicured, par-70 course.

Don't let the outdoor enthusiasts fool you--there is more to life in Cave Creek than the great outdoors. This area is also rich in locally-produced art of many kinds. In the performing arts department, there's the Desert Foothills Theatre, in operation for 34 years and counting. If you prefer visual art, Cave Creek is blessed with many talented artists and their galleries, such as Blue Sage, Camarena Art Gallery, Level 9 Gallery, Galleria Bellas Artes Cave Creek, and Cowgirl Designs.

If you're searching for a more obscure, eclectic objet d'art, head to Thieves Market. Be warned--you may meet with a fair bit of local lore, presented with a dash of sarcasm. It's not for the faint-hearted, or anyone without a sense of humor. It is an event run almost entirely by local artists, such as Paul Dief of "Old Farts Makin' Stuff." Best of all, it only costs a dollar to get in. The rest of what you spend is up to you--but when you're surrounded by this much talent and creativity, don't be surprised if you end up toting home more than you planned to.

Cave Creek will make a great home for families with an artistic bent and a sense of adventure. Let New Home Source equip you for the journey with a brand-new, beautiful home.
