In your search for a home in Peoria, you've undoubtedly come across the 2008 article from Money magazine. Yes, it's true: this town is one of the top one hundred places to live. However, according to Melissa Melton, the numbers tell only a small part of the story. The truth is that the town's charm is irresistible to outsiders: "visitors often come to Peoria and then they like it so much, we hear from them again about moving to the city," says Melton. "It's a great place for families."

The city does have all the ingredients that make a great place to live. First, Peoria is blessed with several attractions that draw crowds from all over the Phoenix area. First and foremost is Lake Pleasant. At 10,000 acres of water, it's the second largest lake in the state, and has all you need for a wonderful, sun-kissed afternoon of swimming, diving, water skiing, or fishing. You can launch into the water from the Pleasant Harbor Marina, or have a glass of wine and watch the desert sunset at the Scorpion Bay Marina and Yacht Club. The lake is more than just an all-natural entertainment venue. Thanks to the Desert Outdoor Learning Center facility, it's a valuable asset to the community. A field-trip favorite, the Learning Center is designed for just one reason: to educate residents about the beauty that surrounds them.

Another area attraction is the Peoria Sports Complex. Every March the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres come here to train for the upcoming baseball season. Not surprisingly, it's also a popular gathering spot. The Sports Complex hosts the annual July 4th All-American Festival, which usually sees about a quarter of a million visitors, who come to experience an F-16 flyover, hear live music, witness events such as the hot dog eating contest, and, of course, watch the fireworks. Around Halloween and Easter, the Sports Complex lights up with other seasonal festivals. This is a town that appreciates a good party and celebration.

If you're looking for more solitary recreation on the weekends, get to know Peoria's system of about 30 parks, all of which boast a combined total of 35 miles of trails. The Phoenix area is well-known to golf aficionados, and Peoria doesn't disappoint: here there are golf courses galore, one to suit every level of interest and ability.

Occasionally, the people of Peoria do come in from the sun. They may see a show at the award-winning Arizona Broadway Theatre or at the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts. Or they may pay a visit to the Challenger Space Center.

Peoria was founded by sturdy homesteaders from Peoria, Illinois, and local Peoria High School reflects the city's heritage as a farming town. It still emphasizes agricultural achievement and is known today for its active FFA group. Truthfully, you can be proud of sending your children to any school in the area. As Melissa Melton explains, every school here has its own "niche," so it pays to shop around and find the school that will be the best fit for your children.

Finally, this is a city wired for the future. What else can be said about a place with its own smartphone app in the works? Let New Home Source help you prepare for your future in the little town that will steal your heart.
