You can find history, culture, excellent cuisine, and plenty of outdoor activities to keep the residents of Waldorf, Maryland happy. Waldorf is an established census-designated place found in the welcoming Charles County. A funny fact about Waldorf is that it was originally called Beantown after a local family who lived here.
Waldorf is seen as a bedroom community, since the majority of locals commute to either Washington DC, Northern Virginia, or to the Andrews Air Force Base. Washington DC is an hour or so away depending on the traffic for the day, which is an okay drive if you are just visiting for the day, but can be a bit stressful if you are driving two hours or more every day. There are a significant number of military families in the area due to the Andrews A.F. Base, which is actually where the President's Air Force One is located.
Learn something new about your community and visit some of the historical landmarks in the area. St. Peter's Church, established in 1700, is a beautiful place to walk through and admire the attention to detail in architecture and artwork. The Dr. Samuel Mudd House and Museum is another must-see in town. This old house is infamous for being the home of Dr. Mudd who set John Wilkes Booth's broken leg right after he shot President Lincoln. With excellent tour guides and period furnishing in the home you will learn plenty, but be careful because there have been ghost sightings here.
Have some fun outdoors and rent a kayak for the day at Indian Head and row or float down the river. Turkey Hill Park is located in La Plata, which is just a city over from Waldorf and makes a perfect place for a picnic and maybe tossing a Frisbee around. Waldorf isn't too far from several marinas where you can go boating or fishing for most of the day. The Studio Cooperative isn't outside, but it is the perfect place to take a Zumba class while your daughter takes a ballet class.
When it's time for dinner, sit down for a traditional Maryland meal of blue crabs. For many Marylanders, a family meal around a big platter of blue crabs is almost as important as Thanksgiving or Christmas. If the game is on and you want to catch it with some friends around a couple of beers, Damon's Grill is the spot for you. With Best Ribs awards from numerous contests Damon's Grill will leave you quite satisfied, unless your team loses!
New Home Source is here to guide you through the process of finding a new home in Waldorf, Maryland. Scroll through the many homes and communities found in the area and picture yourself living in this great town.
