Cane Bay Plantation

"The master-planned South Carolina community, Cane Bay Plantation, is surrounded by diversity. Just 35 minutes east are the majestical Cypress Gardens. Its beauty has been captured in national magazines, but you are close enough to see it all for yourself. Paddle through the dark black swamp waters or walk along the nature trails to experience the exotic environment and unique wildlife from butterflies to alligators. Mepkin Abbey is 45 minutes northeast. Visit this community of Roman Catholic Monks during a day visit or spiritual retreat to explore their world of devotion and prayer. Further northeast is the Francis Beidler Forest which is part of the 45,000 acre Four Holes Swamp. It is similar to Cypress Gardens, but worth visiting to see the hollow tree and soak in more of South Carolina's low country. The historic town of Charleston is just forty minutes southeast. The number one thing you must do is see the Fort Sumter National Monument. Embark on a cruise or private boat to reach the island where the Civil War began. It is also another great way to take in the beauty of the harbor. There are many other famous sites to see that include museums like the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum or the multiple plantation houses with beautiful gardens and landscapes including the oldest landscaped garden, Middle Place. Charleston has much more to offer than just its rich history. How about a trip to the beach, Firefly Distillery, North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center or the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf resort where the 2012 PGA Championships will be held. Although the area surrounding Cane Plantation is full of adventures, there are many opportunities to embark on an adventure just outside of your home. Set off on two feet or two wheels to hike or bike along the miles of trails and explore South Carolina's woodlands. Embrace your inner child by playing on one of the many playgrounds or parks."
