Local historian Gene Williams of the Monroe Historical Society put it best when he described Monroe as a town with "small-town country appeal." This is an amazing and undiscovered gem of a city, with roots going deep into the early nineteenth century, and an incredibly strong sense of community, that only grows stronger as it welcomes newcomers of all ages and walks of life. Yet Monroe is also a suburb of Cincinnati, home of the Fortune 500 companies Kroger, Proctor and Gamble, Macy's, and the Western and Southern Financial Group. While it has never and will never lose its "small-town country appeal," this little town is a great place to enjoy the best of the past and the present.

Take local journalism, for instance. In the early days of Monroe, residents shared their news in person, going to visit each other in wagons or on horseback in journeys that could last several hours. Today the process is a little more stream-lined: just go the Internet, and you'll find everything a Monroe local needs to know, all in one place. The town has an excellent website, known as Main Street Monroe, dedicated to sharing local news and opining on national news. It's a forum where residents can agree, disagree, or outright challenge one another on a certain issue--all with famed Ohio politeness. The web page almost certainly contributes to the enduring sense of community within the town.

Part of that sense of community is due to the sheer staying power of this old Ohio town. In fact there is so much history here, that residents formed the Monroe Ohio Historical Society in 1967 just to make sense of it all. By that point this little community had already collected a good hundred years of life experience, so when they hired a few historians, such as the unforgettable local guide Gene Williams, to study and portray the town's history, Monroe gained an invaluable resource in understanding the past.

The city of Cincinnati is only an hour away--far enough away for Monroe to remain a small town, and close enough for Monroe residents to enjoy easy access to big-city amenities with an easy drive south. The city of Dayton is even closer, allowing residents who work and play in Dayton a short commute to and from their new home.

You and your family will feel safe and secure in Monroe, a town that has stood the test of time. Let us build you a new home with the same timeless beauty, durability, and quality as the town itself.
