About The Nexus Studio
62% of households in America consist of 1 or 2 people. 10,000 baby boomers will retire every day for the next 15 years. 34% of the current housing market is single. The demands of this expanding market segment are not being met by residential developers. To meet this demand, Bill and Dawn McCaffrey founded The Nexus Studio in 2008. It marked the McCaffrey’s transition from fee based architectural services to designing, developing, and building cottage housing pocket neighborhoods. In addition to being showcases for the cottage housing genre, our developments benefit from our decades of experience in breakthrough energy efficient design and construction projects. Nowadays, these projects would be called “green.” The Nexus Studio evolved out of WJM Associates PC, a fee-based architectural firm founded by Bill McCaffrey, a licensed architect. WJM Associates specialized in energy efficient design, was a paid consultant to the Solar Energy Research Institute (now known as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory), and was recognized nationally by the Department of Energy for its contribution to the nation’s energy efficiency. Several of its designs received prestigious national awards and 30% of WJM Associates work was innovative land planning for residential and mixed-use projects—similar to cottage housing.
