Village East

The town of Windsor has seen it all. From its early beginnings as a stop on the Greeley, Salt Lake & Pacific railway to its current day thriving growth, Windsor has an abundance of memories. Windsor has roots in agriculture like many other northern Colorado towns. In the early years of Windsor, it featured a successful flourmill. This structure built in 1899 and it still graces Main Street Windsor, it has withstood a fire & in 2008, it stood up to an EF3 tornado. Windsor also was home to the Great Western Sugar Company from 1905 to 1966. The Great Western Sugar Company was instrumental in bringing many German/Russian emigrants to the area to harvest the sugar beets. Windsor still has a strong German/Russian population. With the closing of GWSC in 1966, Windsor’s industrial growth expanded and included the opening of a Kodak processing plant, which operated until 2014. Windsor has attracted many jobs to the area in many different types of industry. Vestas, a wind turbine company opened on the Southwest side of town in 2013. Other major employers include Owens Illinois which manufactures cans for the Budweiser Brewery in Fort Collins and Hexcel, which produces carbon fiber manufacturing parts. Windsor, even with its industrial and population growth, remains a place to live with small town values. Windsor has been named one of the “Best Cities to Live in Colorado” by several publications. Living in a small town has activities big cities only see in the movies. One of those events happens every Labor Day weekend as Windsor celebrates its past with the Windsor Harvest Festival. A parade through town, fireworks and events at Main Park top the summer off with a bang! Once school starts, on any given Friday night the town is out supporting the Windsor High School Wizards.
