Middlesex County is located in the southern region of Connecticut. It is Connecticut’s smallest county by geographical area and the second smallest by total area. Middlesex County was created in 1785 from chunks of New London County and Hartford County. It is the home of Wadsworth Falls, a state park with scenic waterfalls. Other attractions include the Durham Agricultural Fair and the Traveler’s Championship.

There are 15 towns in Middlesex County. The largest towns include Cromwell, Clinton and East Hampton. The largest city in the area is Middletown, which has a population of 47,510 people. The smallest town is Fenwick, which has a total population of 43 people. Middletown was the county seat from the county’s birth until 1960. There is currently no county seat. All cities and towns are responsible for local government activities.
