New Home Communities in Marshall County

Bordered by the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake to the northeast, this county grows stronger and more unique every year. Named “Best County to Live In” in Kentucky ten years in a row from 1999 to 2009, it's easy to see why Marshall County deserves your attention.

The area was first settled in 1818 after being purchased from the Chickasaw Native American tribe during the Jackson Purchase. For the first century or so of its existence, until the 1930s, this area relied heavily on agriculture. Later, when Kentucky Lake brought in tourists and the Kentucky Dam was used to generate the county's supply of electricity, the county began to grow at an enormous rate.

This county is one of the most gorgeous areas in the nation. Not only are the pristine natural water sources which border and flow through it absolutely breathtaking, but the wildlife and greenery which can be seen all around you will leave you awe-inspired as well. The Clarks River National Wildlife Refuge is located here and acts as a seasonal home for over 200 species of birds who use it as a stopping point along their migration paths. The refuge also provides a home for tree species such as overcup oaks, sycamore, and elm.

Its jaw-dropping sights are not the only characteristics of this county which warrant attention, however. The annual Tater Day which takes place every first Monday of April demonstrates not only the quirkiness, but the closeness of the community living here. Originally founded as a day to celebrate farmers in the area and allow them to trade among themselves, the festival has since evolved to include a festival and parade which all residents can enjoy. The Big Singing, which involves a large congregation of choir members singing gospel at the county courthouse every fourth Sunday of May, is another testament to how active the community is.
