New Homes in Norfolk, VA

Equally beautiful and historic, Norfolk-Newport News is a wonderful place to build a new home for your family. It also possesses top-rated schools,a good job market, excellent healthcare, and plenty of parks and other amenities. That's quite a track record, wouldn't you say? Norfolk-Newport News is a successful, prosperous city that you'll love to call home.

The best part about the history here is that so much of it is well-preserved. Settled in early 1600s, Norfolk and Newport News on the Chesapeake have a lot of stories to share, if you only take time to look. The Matthew Jones House, built in 1720, survives today to tell modern-day visitors about the colonial period. Nearby, Hilton Village and Huntington Heights take Newport News into the twentieth century, and the Roaring Twenties. This is only the tip of the iceberg: in fact, the entire north end of downtown Newport News is on the National Register of Historic Places. Walk the length of the "Cannonball" Trail in Norfolk for a similar architectural voyage through time.

Newport News was also where the 1862 battle between the Confederate ship Virginia and the US ship the Monitor took place. This area still enjoys a strong connection to the Navy through the presence of the Craney Island US Naval Reservation. Its legacy of service in other branches of the military continues in the form of Langley Air Force base. You can still learn about its naval past by taking a tour of the USS Wisconsin, one of the largest battleships in the World War II-era navy.

If you take a cruise on the Chesapeake, you'll definitely have better luck than the ironsides of the Civil War did in the bay. You may need to take more than one cruise to get the lay of the land. The four seasons of this region of Virginia make the scenery of the Chesapeake an ever-changing vista. In the summer, treat yourself to a day at the beach--Virginia Beach, of course. Visiting a 35-mile sandy coastline (that's practically in your own backyard).
