While we never mind praising beautiful new builds, we’re always more than happy to praise a beautiful new home that has a green focus.

Don’t get us wrong: new homes are green homes. Because builders must adhere to higher codes than in the past, that means newly built homes are inherently going to be more efficient than older homes. But, the home at 835 S. Brainard Ave., by BrightLeaf Homes in La Grange, Ill., takes it up a notch with the green factor.

The Brainard Avenue home is a taste of what the company offers. With green features galore, let’s look at the model’s style features. The two-story home has five bedrooms and four baths. The spacious home has a formal dining room for large family gatherings and a flex space to use as your family sees fit. A detached garage has lots an attic for storage, making it easy to store holiday items and other bulky stuff.

An open floor plan reveals a kitchen, living room and breakfast nook. The gourmet kitchen is where you can whip up culinary delights easily, as a kitchen island with seating provides plenty of workspace. The home’s living room is bright and roomy with a stone surround fireplace and a barn door for privacy when needed. And, when the formal dining room feels too formal for a PB&J, the kitchen nook is a bright option to enjoy.

Upstairs, the home’s roomy bedrooms don’t skimp on details that take them from simple rooms to all-out retreats. With enough space for a sitting area, the master bedroom lives large. The ensuite bathroom is just as luxurious, with a separate water closet, double vanities and a soaking tub for long days. The home’s secondary bedrooms are just as spacious and are perfect for hosting visiting guests.

BrightLeaf prides itself on building green homes, including using partners with a hyper-local connection – that means you’ll have a home built from materials sourced in the area. This home is a great example of how you can have a home that’s sustainably built and design conscious, too.
