These days, looking for home furniture that expresses your inner spirit means that you’ve got quite a few options available to you. But what if you want to honor your inner child? Previously, that would be easier said than done. However, an Italian design collective has just released a line of furniture that is sure to rekindle some favorite memories from one’s childhood and add innovative flair to your home with one popular component: LEGO bricks.

Yes, LEGO. The popular building bricks have seen a resurgence of fandom over the past few years, and it’s not solely because of children. Adult fans of LEGO, otherwise known as AFOLs, have seen their ranks grow and a few have incorporated their love for the mini-figures and sets into home displays. Studio NINE, a collective of interior designers from Frosinone, Italy, saw this ardor play out in recent installations and art projects, such as a massive LEGO House designed and constructed in Bilund, Denmark, which is the birthplace of LEGO. With that in mind, they decided to throw their hat into the ring. And so, the stüda was born.

The stüda (the name is a slight wink and nod to IKEA) is a collection of modular furniture manufactured with an exterior filled with the same studs found on the base pieces that come with LEGO playsets. Each piece in the collection was first sketched out and conceptualized by NINE’s designers, and they went on to collaborate with Moow, a multidisciplinary company based in Italy with carpenters and other craftsmen to manufacture each piece.

The pieces have a wood base and include Corian, which makes these furniture pieces highly durable and easy to clean in addition to being very fashionable. Each piece is crafted to be totally three-dimensional, and are set up as storage cabinets. This makes them ideal for living rooms, children’s bedrooms, and any rooms designated for play in the home.

The major appeal of the stüda lies in the infinite possibilities that its studded surface texture provides. Want to craft an inspirational message, or to build a landscape that would do Frank Lloyd Wright proud? It’s simple to do – you can create them vertically and horizontally on each furniture piece. Another bonus is that the stüda pieces can support other commercial building block toys, too. NINE’s designers encourage those who’ll own these pieces to use apps like LEGO Photo to get more ideas on other customized creations they can apply, such as vases, for example.

There isn’t any information yet as to when the stüda will be available for purchase, but it’s likely that there’ll be a lot of demand to build on. Stay tuned for more information from NewHomeSource.
