You’ve come home from a long day at work. Dinner is over and it’s time to relax. This is when the latest technology in smart homes and home automation can go to work for you. “Alexa, Movietime,” you say. Motorized window shades glide quietly down to darken the room. Your Samsung television and surround-sound speakers click on. All you have to do now is tell Alexa the name of the movie you want to watch. Your digital assistant from Amazon starts the show. Go grab some popcorn.
Here’s another scenario: You’ll be out of town on vacation for a few days and your neighbor offered to check on your cat. While you’re away, your doorbell rings and you see your friend’s face appear on your smartphone. With a few clicks on your phone, you turn off your house alarm and unlock the front door to let your neighbor in. Your cat is doing well, she reports, and has plenty of food and water. After sharing a few pictures of your cat, your neighbor leaves. You lock the door and turn your house alarm on again, all from your smartphone.
Home automation can make busy work days easier, too. Imagine that as you leave home, you can quickly tell Alexa to adjust the thermostat to save energy while you’re out for the day.
Is this the future? No, it’s today – if you live in one of Lennar’s new Wi-Fi Certified Homes. Lennar is the nation’s largest homebuilder and the first to embrace comprehensive new standards created by The Wi-Fi Alliance, a global network of companies that set standards for the Wi-Fi communications protocol.
Lennar’s new Wi-Fi Certified Home Design Program allows you to control your home’s lighting, security, door locks, thermostat and other key functions by simply talking to Amazon Alexa. The partnership with Amazon and Lennar was a natural from the start.
“Amazon and Lennar share a common belief in putting experience and the customer first. Engineering a home for the connected world is a natural for Lennar, but bringing it to life with Amazon Alexa is a game changer,” said David Kaiserman, president of Lennar Ventures. “Now, customers can see firsthand how simple, powerful and affordable a smart home can be by visiting Lennar communities around the country.”
Homes by Lennar included in the program feature whole-home automation from Samsung SmartThings with white-glove activation from Amazon and Lennar. Leading manufacturers of products for your home taking part include Baldwin, Honeywell, Kwikset, Ring, Ruckus and Sonus.
“We’re very excited to work with Lennar because we think customers will love the experience of a move-in-ready smart home with Alexa,” said Daniel Rausch, VP Smart Home at Amazon. “With Lennar’s new homes, customers can start asking Alexa to turn on and off lights, adjust thermostats, and more, from the start, making the smart home experience simpler than ever.”
Each Lennar Wi-Fi Certified home design starts with a floor plan that the builder tests extensively, mapping the quality and strength of the Wi-Fi signal throughout the home. Wi-Fi access points from Ruckus are built into the home during construction, creating seamless coverage with no dead zones.
Lennar is already offering Wi-Fi Certified Home Designs in select markets, and the company will provide this new offering in each of its markets by the end of 2018. Controlling your new home – and enjoying the many benefits of smart homes and home automation – has never been easier.
