Pat Curry is a highly respected journalist who most recently worked as senior editor, sales and marketing, at BUILDER, the official publication of the National Association of Home Builders and the largest-circulation monthly trade magazine in the nation. In 2009, she was named a finalist in the Best Online Article category of the Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards, the Pulitzer Prize of the trade press.
Equally comfortable writing for consumer and trade publications, her work has appeared in national and international magazines; credits include USA Weekend, Working Mother, Consumers Digest, Country Weekly, American Profile and Smart Business. She’s also been a regular contributor to Bankrate.com, BobVila.com and Cyberhomes.com.
She also has written for major corporations, universities, non-profit organizations and governmental agencies, and has served as an adjunct lecturer at the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia. She currently teaches an online class on writing for trade magazines for the Renegade Writer.
As a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity International, she covered Habitat’s highest profile event of the year, the Jimmy Carter Work Project, in Los Angeles, Houston, eastern Kentucky, New York, South Africa and the Philippines.
A 1980 graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Mass Communications, she worked for six years at daily newspapers in South Florida before going freelance in 1987. As a daily newspaper reporter, she covered such major events as the Florida gubernatorial race and the Challenger space shuttle tragedy.
An unrepentant coffee snob, she considered a 2005 trip to Italy a pilgrimage to the birthplace of espresso. In 2009, she and her husband John started Buona Caffe Artisan Roasted Coffee, a premium roast-on-demand coffee company. And when she's not on deadline for a magazine, website or corporate client, she's probably daydreaming about singing back-up for Tina Turner, delivering coffee or planning her next great vacation.
