Texas's Rockwall County sits on the eastern shore of famous Lake Ray Hubbard in the northern part of the state. Established in 1873, Rockwall County is the smallest, in land area, of any Texas county, spanning just 149 miles. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in wealth, as Rockwall is the wealthiest county in the state. The county's largest city, Rockwall, is the county seat. It is a suburb of Dallas, just 23 miles northeast of the city, and often makes the list of the best places to live in Texas and in the country.
Lake Ray Hubbard is Rockwall County's biggest draw. It is one of the state's largest recreational lakes, spanning 22,000 acres, and is a popular spot for boating, fishing, water-skiing, and jet-skiing. There are many parks around the lake with beaches, trails for biking and hiking, and plenty of other outdoor activities. The Harbor Rockwall is a retail and dining development on Lake Hubbard in Rockwall.
Rockwall's recreational opportunities don't end with Lake Ray Hubbard. There are many different sports complexes, bike trails, a disc golf park, and several popular golf courses. Historic downtown Rockwell is a significant draw and features rich history and culture mixed with many dining and shopping opportunities. Collin College Rockwall Center is also located in Rockwall. Although the City of Rockwall, which has been dubbed the Live Music Capital of North Texas, makes up the bulk of this small county, three other cities are exclusively inside of Rockwall County's borders, including Mobile City, Fate, McLendon-Chisholm.
The public school district serving Rockwell consistently receives high marks from the Texas Education Agency. Rockwall is a safe community, and it offers an easy commute to downtown Dallas. Perhaps that's why new home construction in the county is in high demand. Currently, 246 residential communities within Rockwall's borders have new homesites available, with 53 homebuilders who not only build custom homes in Rockwall County but in the neighboring counties of Collin County, Hunt County, and Kaufman County.
