Luminous Homes started with three primary design goals when designing the Park View at Oak Forest community,: First, to create a community that revitalized the neighborhood and directed attention to the beautiful public park directly adjacent to the project site; Second, to create homes that felt spacious, inviting, and comfortable despite limited lot sizes; and Third, to design the houses and community with a kind of curb appeal that is typically lacking from similar developments. These three goals were accomplished in the following ways. The community brings attention to the public park through the design of the three shared driveways. Each driveway provides a visual corridor through the community, so that as residents and guests enter the development they are met with a beautiful view of the park directly in front of them. Also, each home is designed with balconies and/or roof decks in locations that allow the residents to sit outside and see directly into the park from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. The goal of providing spacious and inviting interiors was accomplished by designing the lots to be wider than most competitors’ lots, creating the opportunity for floor plans that have a natural flow and comfortable proportions. This was further realized through the focus on providing an abundance of natural light to the interior spaces. Moment Architects found opportunities for unique window placements that capitalized on daylight and views without sacrificing privacy by designing the window sizes and locations with the entire community layout in mind. Finally, Luminous Development Group allocated extra funds to increase the quality of materials used on the entry gates, landscape walls, and house facades directly adjacent to the public street, thus achieving the curb appeal they sought and creating a community that the residents and its surrounding neighborhood would be proud of.
