Applegate Landing

Applegate Landing, located in picturesque Veneta, Oregon derives its name from Lindsay and Jesse Applegate, blazers of the Applegate Trail. In 1843 the Applegates lost three family members to drowning while navigating the treacherous Columbia River portion of the original Oregon Trail. After settling in the Willamette Valley, they lead a team of 14 men to explore a safer route for other would-be pioneers. The Applegate Trail was designated a National Historic Trail by the US Congress on August 3, 1992. Veneta sits just southwest of beautiful Fern Ridge Lake, a recreational gold mine, offering countless activities for both water and wildlife enthusiasts. The city is located 12 miles west of the Eugene/Springfield Metropolitan Area and is a short 45-minute drive to the Pacific Ocean. It is located in the southeast corner of the Willamette Valley in Lane County.
