With a population of more than 22,000 residents, the village has nearly doubled in size over the last half-century as it continues to share in the economic growth of the Chicago metro region. Libertyville is considered by residents to be one of the greatest places to live in Illinois. It features nationally recognized, award-winning school districts, nearly 500 acres of park and recreational land, 1100 acres for hiking, swimming, fishing, and horseback riding, and a crime rate that is average when compared to other similar size communities across the country. There is currently an ongoing effort to restore and preserve the historic village of Libertyville.
