Merickel Lumber

Merickel Lumber has been providing quality lumber and services to customers since 1935. The business was started by Harry Arthur Merickel, who left his banking career in search of a new fortune and ventured to California with his wife and four children. When they returned to Wadena, Minnesota, Merickel partnered with Rich Stuntebeck, owner of the Ford garage at the time, to form Merickel Lumber Mills.

At first, Merickel focused on milling and selling lumber from forests located near Wadena but transitioned into a retail building center after World War II. As more people moved away from rural areas during the 80s and 90s, Jim Merickel took over as CEO of the company in 1992 and added a design department, a large fleet of delivery vehicles, and a 10,000 square foot ACE Hardware store and rental. In 2004, his son Jason joined the business full-time and became partners with Jim.
