Bloomfield Homes - There were a few hiccups throughout the home buying and build

There were a few hiccups throughout the home buying and build of our home. They were taken care of eventually, but after moving in we discovered the rushed low quality workmanship that went into repairs and all around build of our home. Window height is not consistent and not sealed fully. Overspray of paint and stain in front and back porch. It is evident that a “good enough, hurry and get it done” mentality was used in building our home.

My wife and I purchased a Bloomfield home in Melissa, TX. The experience from the sales office to the design appointment was wonderful. Once we broke ground and began construction is when we started seeing things. Specifically, during construction, there was one area that was not framed correctly according to the blueprints. We mentioned this as soon as we noticed it in October of 2020 to our project manager Sam. He said this will get corrected at a later time. Weeks go by, and no resolution. Finally, they do a little work around, but it still looks terrible. We closed on the house in March ...

I would love to have all of my new home buyer issues addressed before my one year timeframe lapses. I love my home but when lights don’t work, doors won’t stay closed and alarm system malfunctions with poor customer service response I cannot leave a positive response. Would like for this not to be my case. Please help!!

Bloomfield Homes - Inferior cabinets poor design with age may have major problems.

Inferior cabinets poor design with age may have major problems. Inferior dishwasher. House built on sloop which makes it difficult to use side yard access. There are two gates one on each side of house, but the air conditioning unit one one side of house prevents access to yard. Some electrical outlets placed wrong in bedrooms. Master bed room tub too small for a tall person. don't understand why they install base boards and door casings before floors. Then they put a lot of caulk under base boards. That look dosent look professional and unfinished. Why not put the floors down first ...

Tommy needs to be held accountable

Tommy was my sales rep in the Treesfarm phase (Desoto TX) and he was horrible. He was rarely available, made a critical mistake with my paper work, and a flat out liar. He constantly boasted about how my home was his 7th sale that week. He was fortunate because this subdivision just happens to be about 50k to 70k cheaper with double the land than any of the other phases in the vicinity. Therefore he felt like he didn't have to do any real work. I'm a home inspector and I have inspected at least 300 plus Bloomfield Homes in my career. This is the reason I purchased. I love what I've seen and ...

Make sure you know exactly. What color you won't inside and outside your house done, Because they will not change the color later. Be certain on what you want done up front., Because there will be no changes later.

Bloomfield Homes responded:
Thank you for your feedback. The reason we do not allow changes once selections have been made is that it slows down production times and is costly and inefficient. Various trades are involved, and materials like brick and stone take months to deliver once ordered. We wish you many happy years in your Bloomfield Home. ...

Processes were slow and getting answers was difficult at times

The 3rd party contractors were sloppy. There didn’t seem to be much care of respect for the property they worked on. Sod was not laid the best. Paint was literally everywhere from door to door. Gouges in the floors. Stains in my sink and tubs. Kitchen counter tops were stained. For such high cost high quality homes, the 3rd party contractors should be better. The lack of wi-fi capable products in 2022 is also a bit shocking. There should be at the very least an option to install smart devices without having to be restricted to one company.

Bloomfield Homes responded:

We were not able to get upgrades we requested. Slab was poured early for plumbing requests. We did not have walk-thru prior to sheetrock installation and some outlets were no in our preferred locations. At times some frustration having appointments delayed or rescheduled. If not for a sound deal and some resolutions made, this rating would be less.

Buy Bloomfield if you want. I won’t buy another or recommend. Over priced and cheap material used. No back on cabinets. MDF trim is garbage. Cheap water stops with pex hanging out of the wall. No pre-drywall walk. I brought up issues they were corrected after the house was finished. They cut holes in the walls to fix the issues I brought up at framing stage. I’ve owned DR Horton and Gehan homes to me this was a step down on quality and customer service. Had a home Inspector come out half the items weren’t connected. He couldn’t finish his inspection. I wonder how this house closed for finals ...

I chose the Caraway plan, which is a lovely, spacious floor plan. The bedroom sizes are nice. My building process was a bumpy and unorganized first few months with the initial two community managers. Once Matt came onboard, communication was clear and consistent, he immediately cleared up all of the confusion in my documentation and I felt much more confident about the process going forward. The builder was not closely involved in overseeing the contractors work. There were items pending for weeks that could have been resolved much earlier and prevented the delay in my closing. Work that ...

Overall, the home was here as we agreed, but there a lot of things that could have been done better. Issue: Certain things were decided for us that could have taken our input. Discussion: While this is not a total custom build, a few preferences decisions could have been requested to make the experience better. For example, the builders mistakenly put an outlet on our fire place. Mistakes happen, which is okay, but they could have asked us if we wanted it or not. Instead, they just left it there and wired the entire living area through it. Recommendation: Indy should pose more ...

Very bad experience in between the transition of old hardware to new hardware

I was not intimated about the transition of hardware, the time i signed the house and then there was transition and i got a house with some new and some old hardwares with different colour combinations. I asked them to replace to any of the one alike combinations but i got a very good response saying that we can’t do anything its “corporate decision” Apart from this mismatch, pretty satisfied with the overall construction and the quality.

Bloomfield has nice design options and homes at reasonable pricing, but they charge for almost everything to upgrade. We’re happy with our home but found a lot of issues with the details and workmanship. They are responsive and try to solve the problems however. I would say they are an average builder from my experience. Probably wouldn’t not use them again if I had the choice.

I wish someone would have fully explained that there is three years of home automation service included with the purchase. The home automation company began calling me on my way home from closing and was very pushy making me think they were just another salesman. Warranty department needs improvement. I called in a warranty issue on December 4 and was never contacted by the subcontractor. Almost a month went by and I had to contact the subcontractor and begin the process with them. My overall experience in building with Bloomfield Homes was just okay nothing to rave about. Communication from the builders was not proactive and the overall quality of materials and workmanship is below expectations. When selecting upgrades, It's important to keep in mind that you paying for the aesthetics not the aesthetics, quality material, and quality workmanship. For example, selecting shaker cabinets and the premium kitchen upgrade came with visible nail holes, rail hardware that doesn't support the drawers, and dinged-up drawers. We are also still trying to clean up residual gunk ...
