I had quite a few issues with my home initially, but they were resolved. I am still having issues with contractors cursing at me when I ask them to move their vehicles from blocking my driveway or making it impossible to drive on the street. I would not recommend being the first in the neighborhood. Especially if you work from home.

I chose a Highlands Home because of its stellar reputation for quality work. However, I don’t think Highlands has completely delivered on the townhome I purchased. Highlands responds in a timely manner to my concerns. However, there’s (at least to me) a defensiveness to my critique of some of the carpentry workmanship, especially the trim work done on the baseboards and door mouldings. As of the writing of this survey, I haven’t even moved in yet, and I’ve noticed the moulding around ALL the doors is separating and in some places, pulling away from the wall. I have voiced concern about the shoddy trim work and I have requested that it be corrected. Maybe the trim guy for the work done on the townhomes in Sherman Texas needs to be replaced. Quality build. Construction manager does a poor job with following up with communication and misses details in every single email exchange. Construction manager is nice. He tells the buyer he is available for questions/concerns, but does not actually follow through with a quality level of responsiveness. Outright ignores some topics in emails. Issues/agreed upon repairs would persist for weeks and I had to keep asking up until the day before closing. Sales counselor was consistently excellent, responsive and proactive. I would give her five stars.

Zero complaints about the customer service. Everyone we interacted with during purchase and the build process was phenomenal. Our grievances are tied to the quality of materials, workmanship and the lack of QC. Our expectations were high after seeing HH’s model homes across several different communities. The house they built us definitely did not measure up to those expectations.

Sales person was rude and aggressive & loan office wasn’t good at communicating

I absolutely love my new townhome! It's beautiful and everything I ever wanted. The problem is in the quality. I have had so many problems since closing. Not even two weeks after moving in, I was infested with mice so bad that I had to move out temporarily. They did not properly seal the attic in six places and left open gaps. I was lucky that only mice came in. Their warranty department would not reimburse me for what I had to spend to get this fixed. I could not get my shutters installed because water was coming in through the windows and had to force them to fix this. It took a long time to get the breakers to stop tripping! It seemed as if this was their first build out. They tell you that their claims department will take care of things after you close, but their claims deparment just asks questions, and sends someone to look at things (when it's convenient for them) they give you so much run around, BEWARE! There were other small glitches here and there, but never have I had such poor experience with any other builder in the past. Very disappointing considering such a beautiful townhome. Great sales people. Troy and Victor were amazing, I enjoyed working with them very much. It's just a shame that the construction and the construction staff need to gain experience on what they are doing and how to treat customers. I will never again purchase from Highland Homes. ... Lots of small issues that should have been addressed prior to closing. Typical new construction home thought these guys would be different at a higher level since they charge more.

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the workmanship on our new home. While we understand that no home is without minor imperfections, my husband and I have encountered several issues that have left us disappointed, given the significant investment we made. During the construction process, we visited the site regularly and noticed some concerning behaviors and quality issues: *We frequently saw beer cans scattered around the site. *There was evidence of smoking inside our home, even though we are non- smokers. We brought several issues to the attention of the construction manager and he promised they would be fixed and till this day their still not fixed. * improperly installed items *paint on the floor, bathroom fixtures, lights crooked (not slightly crooked) *front door installed incorrectly *the list goes on For the amount of money we paid, it feels as though it's a starter home. The attention to quality control was almost impossible because of the "assembly line" process of a single construction manager trying to oversee multiple homes (15 plus in our case). The electrical work was incomplete and incompetent at times. Lack of crown molding and the use of basic base molding was dissappointing. Trash pickup in and around the house was infrequent . The choices for lighting were few, and upcharges were excessive for additional ceiling fans (should have been standard for bedrooms and porch). Too much vehicle conjestion on the narrow street. The house design and the beauty of the Mustang Lakes development is attractive, but the process of a single street being constructed simultaneously was frustrating, especially with houses only 10 feet apart. The materials used in the house are acceptable, but there is no good construction team to bring out the best in them. There are too many areas in the house that need improvement, many walls do not look new, and the attitude of the house inspection supervisor is extremely bad!

The purchasing process and initial negotiations were fantastic. As newcomers to the US, we received substantial support and guidance on how to navigate the home-buying process, which differs significantly from what we’re accustomed to in our home country. Once the terms were agreed upon, things proceeded relatively smoothly. However, as the closing date approached, our experience took a turn for the worse. The initially agreed-upon numbers suddenly increased significantly, with a considerable hike in the total house value causing a major dispute among all parties involved. Despite the challenges, we persisted, and at the last minute, the numbers came down closer to the original agreement—though not quite the same. The Construction Manager has been excellent, addressing our concerns and providing support when needed. Overall, Highland Homes is a reputable company with an impressive sales process and diligent construction follow-up, albeit with some room for improvement in materials and a less-than-ideal lender company. ... Jon, the salesman, was shady and would tell us whatever he thought would get us to sign. Fortunately for us, we always recorded and/or had a witness present to validate our statements. We had to deal directly with the regional lead to finally come to a resolution, including intentionally misleading us regarding the 20k incentive. He was just as deceptive regarding what changes we could make (we wanted a circular tub). After our earnest deposit cleared, it came to light that we couldn’t do that. He also misled us by 2 weeks regarding closing (the date changed within a week after we went under contract and the construction manager had no idea why the salesman had fabricated the completion date). After we moved inC we had continuous issues with the air conditioners and plumbing (hot water would either take more than 6 minutes to actually get hot, or we would lose the hot water mid-shower). It took at least 3 attempts per issue to make progress. We will see if the latest bandaids work or not. We have mixed feelings about our experience with Highland Homes. While we love our new home, it does have its flaws. The Short Version The overall purchase process was alright; everyone we interacted with was friendly and professional. However, several issues arose during construction that have left us somewhat disappointed. The Long Version Initially, everything was going well. The team was professional and helpful. Unfortunately, a construction fire early in the process caused a significant delay. Thankfully, no one was hurt. As construction progressed, we began noticing several concerning issues: -Mysterious stains on the plywood -Windows left open after drywall installation, allowing water inside -A leak in the area where fire repairs were made, due to missing shingles To their credit, Highland Homes addressed the major structural issues, and the house is structurally well-built. We had the option to back out, but after consulting with several lawyers, we decided to proceed. Our main disappointment lies in the sloppy delivery: -Mortar chunks left on the porch and patio -Miscolored concrete and sloppy patch repairs -Poor construction cleanup before closing, including paint splatters on the tile and cabinetry -Smeared silicone caulk on tiles, making them difficult to clean -Questionable smears on the walls/ ceiling We expected a higher level of quality from Highland Homes, especially since this isn't our first build and we knew what to look out for. I’ll start by saying that HH was by no means terrible and in the end we are very happy with our home and it’s beautiful and the finishes HH offers are all very nice. That being said, my biggest gripe with HH is likely that I came in with higher expectations having built homes in the past with other builders in different states where the process was exceptional. I came in expecting the same and HH fell short. Everything eventually got done and taken care of but it involved a lot more leg work and follow up on my end to ensure things were getting done and were correct ( there were several errors.) In the end the attention to detail and lack of communication at all levels Sales, construction manager and HH loans was disappointing, but to their credit they have for the most part been responsive and taken care of everything once I followed up. Everything was going great until the day after funds were transferred on closing. There are still items from our second walk-through that are pending. There is absolutely no communication on getting these items fixed. I have called multiple people at corporate and have always been redirected and left voicemails because i was reassured that I would get a return call but that hasn't happened yet. It has been over two months since closing and items from our walkthrough are still pending. The process with our construction manager was seamless. However after closing, It's hard to reach anyone and communication is minimal to none. I would suggest that anyone buying a house to make sure everything is fixed before transferring funds. I can't imagine how horrible it will be submitting warranty request when items from before closing haven't been done. It is night and day difference how highland homes treats you when they already have your money vs when they don't. Our sales folks and builder never seemed to be on the same page from the get go. Despite several attempts to bridge the gap between us and the builder, we had to bring in the senior manager to help rectify the situation. Once that was done, the customer service and communication improved to an acceptable level. The home was delivered later than promised, but the quality is definitely there.

Negative: Extreme disparity between standard and upgrade expectations. Very confusing! Extremely low quality workmanship! Continuous need for repairs before closing. Disrespect for owner’s investment. Dents and gouges in upgraded cupboards. Positives: Great interaction with sales staff and design center during building process. Quality fixtures, appliances, flooring, etc. Construction manager’s attention to concerns. Quick follow up to issues after closing.

Definitely not up to the mark. Being premium builder the cost is definitely higher than other builders in same neighborhood but we don’t see that difference in quality or features or finishing. The main complaint is the amateurish finishing overall and clearly shows that care was not shown and was rushed. They are good in responding to service requests.

If your sales person is Haeli then be specific to the details. She doesn’t provide you with any details as she thinks it doesn’t matter to us. But end of the day we are paying money so ask every detail of lot inside and outside of perimeter. These people just work for the money and don’t value you after signing the sales agreement. I realized cheap products being used in some places of the construction. Highland homes loan officer Lindsay, not provided any steps details. Loan process was not transparent. She never told until I ask for. Over all rating okay to buy from highland homes but there bunch of other builders too. Try to consider other builder if you have options. ... More

Have to done your own servery because many issues left and after closing last 2 months still come up here and there

Some cracks on the wall and protrusions that occurred throughout the building after a month residing the home. Indicates issue with structure. Wall holding garage door frame on the side cracked. Sloppy paint in areas where there is visible sheen/general unevenness. Even with fixing minor issues and given a period a to review them and have builder go over them it was impossible to catch everything before signing. It's annoying some of the media/home consoles like doorbell and thermometer are service locked and was a pain to configure and gain access to and wifi extender.

Every door knob has fallen off, the hardware is so cheap. 4 toilets and every handle is missing pieces in the back. Washers missing. It’s embarrassing to bring people in to my home. The toilets and tubs backed up in 1st week. The stench of sewage was something we had to live with for a month, with a one year old and three year old. The worst thing is I have kids and the rails have fallen through upstairs. Allowing the ability for one of my kids to fall through the railing. Can provide time stamped pics for everything. The water heaters were not working for the 1st month of ownership. They were replaced. My kids had to bathe at a family members home for weeks. The lack of insulation is insane. Not only for sound but the cold. I have a thermal camera for hunting and looked at the wall and laughed. ... More

Make sure you get your own home inspector!

Cabinets are worse than off the shelf Hone Depot or Lowe’s . Typical drywall and electric issues that a production builder does. Minimal oversight and although some stuff gets fixed, the overall house is way overpriced. At least we did not spend more for the same builder in another community.

Home buying experience with loan department and realtor was very pleasant. Felt as if they were trying their best to allow us the best opportunity to purchase the home, and made the loan process straight forward. Greatest challenge during process was working with Jason the project manager. His response time was poor, and was very inflexible in finding a time to meet with him. I had to do his ONE OPTION, and my concerns/schedule was of no priority to him whatsoever. The walkthrough was condescending how he instructed and went over the home features, and if anything discussed prior needed to be done I had to reach out multiple times just to have a change of it getting done.
