Day 1, sewer backed up and circuit breaker for refrigerator had to be replaced. A few days later no hot water, all flow orifices had to be removed to get sufficient flow for water heaters. This is due to the way the water heaters were installed. Wrong size circuit breaker installed for double oven. White spray paint on exterior of sliding doors and Highland will not address. Breakfast area window needed to be replaced, damaged during installation but no one told anyone. No soft close hinges on cabinet doors (HH saved $200 on that one). Black marks on white door trim from door hardware, told this was normal. I replaced all strike plates and now fixed, HH saved $40 on that. Laundry room cabinets installed so high as to not be useable, I lowered them. No cabinet pulls in Study, Laundry Room or other bathrooms. Water heaters installed as far away from kitchen and Master Bath as could be. Will need hot water recirculation. I am still crawling on the floor with a wet toothbrush getting white paint out of woodgrain. Reset exterior door strikes so door came into contact with weatherstripping. Trim carpenters don't deserve to be called carpenters. Nicks on door trim behind hinges throughout that were not filled, just painted over. Electrolux appliances not worth whatever you paid for them. Patio exterior outlet in a location that makes it unusable. Master Bath makeup vanity wall outlet installed INSIDE a cabinet. Had to shim the rear wheel of refrigerator due to floor being out of level so much. We apparently expected too much. ... More

My biggest gripe is the homeowner doesn’t really get a say so on the house. For example the height of the shower head. I’m 5ft but the shower head is placed so high I had to buy a removable shower head so I could bathe. You don’t get to choose which side the locks go on the gates. It’s perceived that you are part of the decision making as far as the house but you really aren’t. You don’t even get to choose the type of door bell you want or where it’s placed.

Could be better. The loan experience was good

We did our closing in August. During closure, we had few things which were pending, but trusting the builder went ahead and closed. Its been 3 months since then which has ruined the overall experience since those list of issues have still not closed.

Loved the quality of the home, but I do wish certain things I knew what I know now. I do wish they have a better option at design center and not charge u so much for little things like tiles I’m sure they already have that price included in the house

When I called my sales agent to delay the closing for one week then she denied saying that she is going to cancel the contract and house was even not completed. Post closing I have to follow up with builder many time to get the things fixed but still its on. I am definitely not happy. They even didn't share the electrical upgrade list with price breakup.

Helpful in the beginning. However, once we paid off for our unit the response got somehow slower. A lot slower i might add. Depends on your personal standards. I , personally wish they would focus more on detail. Life is made out of small things anyway and for or the $ they asked for our house we expected more serious professional kind of service. We paid for our unit 100% in full. Thank G.. we didn't have major issues like AC, Roof, Water, Foundation, or a anything of the kind. Generally speaking, my impression was a"spotty" kind of service,if there is such a category. A lots of room for improvement in the communication, job quality, responsiveness, and finishing department. Too bad but that's the truth. You hear a lots of " yes, no problem " but the reality is 87.5 % of the time you don't get the service you expect for the $ you paid in the beginning. But they are nice guys. After we closed we were treated like enemies. Once in our new home we find the quality of workmanship very poor, having to touch up most of the staircase and wood work.

Overall, i had a good experience in terms of build quality and value for money.

Poor quality - I guess this must be acceptable and normal for Houston quality level , and Highland is doing good based on the Houston quality level measurements. But if you want to compare it with somewhere else (my case Canada), way poor quality specially in finial finishing , touching , cleanness ...

This is our 3rd Highland. We built another Highland in 2019 that had severe foundation issues. This house that we built in 2022 was significantly more expensive and we do not feel the construction quality is any different. In fact, there is a HUGE difference in the Highland we built in 2012 which was why we chose them again in 2019. Had we not micromanaged our new build every step of the way, the house would not have turned out as nice as it did. The biggest problem is the subcontractors they use do not do quality work. Lots of issues with cosmetic items (crooked sheetrock, uneven floors, scratches/dents on practically everything new that was installed and several plumbing/electrical issues that WE caught along the way. The Project Manager/builder seemed overwhelmed and would sometimes manage things quickly, while many other times left us hanging and not answering questions. They tried to tell us the long wait time was due to material issues, but that was not the case. The problem was mostly they cannot get good subcontractors to do the work. It is widely known by realtors and other homeowners that this particular neighborhood (Sandbrock Ranch) does not get the "A" list vendors like the more expensive neighborhoods in Prosper, Celina, etc. I would say overall, their new builds do not represent the level of what you see in their model homes. ... Our overall experience with Highland Homes has been amazing. The team that includes Lesli and Seth have been awesome on every level of us buying our wonderful home. However, we had one issue that has stained our overall experience with Highlands homes. We moved into our home only to find out that we had a rat/mice infestation in the walls and attic of our home within the first week of moving in. A total of 7 rats/mice have been caught since and we believe there are more. My wife and I have lost sleep and our disappointment over the noise and interruption of our daily lives due to the infestation has only made matters worse. And while Lesli and Seth were amazing in responding to our issues regarding this matter, Highland Homes did not compensate us for the emotional damage as well as the loss of value dealing with this mice/rat infestation. They did offer to put us up in a hotel, but we didn't need that as we have friends in the area. We simply wanted some type of monetary value for the issues we dealt with and are continuing to deal with as it relates to the infestation. Our lives have been severally impacted and disrupted with this issue. We've had to cut open our walls to insert rat/mice traps, we had to have a pest guy visit every week on the hour to inspect what is going on. We even had holes outside of our home that were discovered by the pest guy after we moved in that needed to be closed and patched up properly. This should never happen to a homeowner who has spent nearly $1Million dollars to buy their home. It made my wife and I feel as though we weren't valued and or listened to regarding the time we have had to deal with on this issue. Our new home experience has been marred and difficult since we moved in. I only wish that we had selected another home now due to the experience we've suffered through due to the rat/mice infestation that we continue to deal with. I'm a little embarrassed to show off our home to our guest and family members as well as gush over the home with our new neighbors due to our rat/mice infestation problem. Again, this is not a reflection on Seth or Lesli. They have been great leading up to the buying experience of our home. Since we've moved in, the infestation has been a nightmare. I only pray that no other homeowner goes through what we have gone through. We will continue to grin and bare this experience that has not been fun to deal with unil all rats/mice are removed and sounds within our home dissipate. ... More

We are pleased with the overall results of the long / arduous / frustrating process. Having said that, one major takeaway is this: the outsourcing of the design meeting (IBB) and the electric meeting (InCharge) has had a very negative impact on the timeliness, professionalism, and overall quality of the experience that people have come to know and expect from Highland Homes. It's not the same anymore, unfortunately.

I was not as happy with the quality of my Highland home as I was my last one. The mason work was sloppy and the cabinet work was also not the best. My sales person was non-existent, only talked to him 3 times during the process. Didn’t help advise and wanted upgrades but were not aware. Our contractor Alex was amazing. The closing was painless. Overall I would say average to moderate experience.

Overall our house is beautiful. Several issues that i need to mention. Building it took a year to finish( delays due to HOA not approving our choices of exterior color of bricks). Safety issues during the actual building of the house such as sheet racks not properly piled and nails lying on the floors. Upon moving in several bathtub faucets are loose and one was actually leaking. Wirings for internet was not working ( was spliced during construction). Doorbell was put to low for cameras to be installed and wires were knicked and touching each other that apparently caused chime box to short circuit and almost causing a fire. Cracks on both 1 car and 2 car garages seem to getting bigger. Home pro security key pad not sensing all the sensors in the house 1 day after it was installed so as of this time we have no security alarm when doors and windows are opened and it takes 1 month to schedule repairs .Jim has been very receptive to all of these issues but for the price of the house most of these issues should not happen in my opinion. Highland Homes passed the buck for not having Internet to the Developer. Either way they should have been able to make sure that their new residents get Internet, a basic necessity for work from home folks. They didn't provide any alternatives for this either and their contract states that they are not responsible for making sure Internet is available at their homes. Apart from that they have been very responsive to fix things, and their workmanship seems above average. They charge extra considerably for having rocker switches instead of the toggle switches ($650), adding recessed lights in the bedrooms that should have been included in the original price. Most importantly, one of the windows needed re-glazing and they removed the window to measure it but did not seal it back with silicone due to their negligence. This heavy window fell inwards due to the wind m and almost missed my wife and infant baby by seconds! Would have paid a huge price due their negligence and we just got lucky. Still angry about this incident. The window smashed in so hard that it would have been fatal to my infant and wife. There is no lock on the owner's bathroom, and apparently this is standard with their plan. Any toddler or pet can just push the door open. Apart from all of the above, the house has good finishing. But the window incident and the lack of internet have soured our experience greatly. ... More

We love the floorplan and how the home looks, but it was not finished by the closing time despite all the promises and now almost months after closing we still have unfinished items. I spent tons of time following up with the manager on finishing it and very frustrated with it. Thq quality of finishing is another point of frustration. There is no attention to details, a lot of stuff done roughly, uneven, with spots, sharp edges dents, scratches, etc. The builder didn't care about fixing it unless we insist

Communication was not always good including the lack of consistent, periodic updates on construction status and warranty work. Some subcontractors were good, others were sloppy and unreliable.

I truly wish I could provide a more positive review, however, I think due to the timing of my build/purchase, my Highland experience was less than expected. I was aware of Highland's reputation as a quality builder, positive reviews per research I did, and recommendation from realtor, so I focused on purchasing a Highland home. Due to several issues, I'm running into now, I believe the building of my home was "rushed" and that certain quality control mechanisms were missed. I do attribute some of these issues due to building demand and market conditions during the Q2-Q3'2022 timeframe. However, based on Highland's reputation combined with the price I was paying for the house, I expected a more positive experience. General issues included missed due dates for installations/repairs, lack of proactive notifications and follow up (I usually was reaching out to either the sales team or project coordinator for updates), continued unresolved repair issues. Part of the problem may be due to lack of subcontractor control and volume of business with resources being spread very thin. Unfortunately, I felt I was unnecessarily caught in the middle and that I was not a priority for the team hence the low rating. ... More

Builder made promises at the time of closing that they have not fulfilled close to 3 months after closing. Bathroom cabinets are broken, missing fixtures, unpainted items, etc.

Our family fell in love with Highland's floor plans and overall design. It was different from the other model homes we visited. After a long fail attempt of trying to purchase a home we decided to just build a new construction. Glenn was great from the beginning, he made us feel really comfortable and we felt really good with starting the process. Unfortunately we had a major delay with CenterPoint, as frustrating as it was we understand it wasn't Highlands fault. What we feel like was Highlands fault is that the craftmanship wasn't up to their standard. The house sat for months with imperfections that could of been address instead of when we moved in. Sheetrock and paint has been a horrible experience. We are extremely disappointed. Sheet rock was poorly done, we had waves, lines weren't straight, uneven texture throughout the whole home. You would think since the walls are textured they would be able to hide how imperfect the walls were, but nope we literally can see where all the walls were joined. I would like to think after paying so much for a home, that if they can't get it perfect it would at least come close to being perfect. We've been to homes that close half of what ours cost and their walls and paint didn't have any imperfection, because yes we are the type to look for things like that. We have base boards and door trims that look like they have a bunch of dings and a fail attempt to patch it. My door trims around look like it has acne and paint to patch it up like make-up. We were extremely proud to have Highland be our builder, but now we wouldn't recommend anyone purchasing a Highland Home. We love our house but do feel for the craftsmanship, we extremely over paid. ... More

Highland has excellent customer service, but the workers they use will cut every corner and leave your brand new home unfinished and looking like a home 1/3rd the price. Micromanaging every aspect of the build is required and even then more mistakes are made. This is acceptable according to them in this current labor market. Wife, daughter, baby and I have even had to relocate to a hotel(covered by Highland), so they could fix issues, 1 of which was a HUGE saftey violation nearly 1.5mos after closing. Im sure Im just the outlier here as Highland is one of tbe best, but it doesn’t change the face that my family suffers after making the biggest purchase of my life. ... More

Love the house. A lot of small things needed to be fixed.

Although I love the house and the location , the overall moving process lacked in several areas. The exterior of the house is different than the one we thought it would be. We only found out about that later in the process. When we received our closing date, we thought everything would be ready for the move in date but it wasn’t. We did the final walkthrough one day before closing and noticed that there were items missing, like Mirrors, Shower Window, Door bell and Oven vents. Our builder did tell us that we had the option of postponing the move in date or have these things added before we moved. At that point everything was already scheduled to move in so that wasn’t an option for us. The day of our move in, the house was nasty dirty. Like dust on the bathroom drawers , counters, etc. it looks like their cleaning crew came to clean the floors only. Our builder did stay on top of things after we moved and got everything that was missing and communication was great! We know the market has been crazy of late and labor is scarce so we totally understand why those things happened but definitely wished we were told of it before that that was a possibility . Besides that, I would buy it from them again, but would definitely be more active through the process in asking updates. ... More

Overall my home is good, but the paint job is just very poor. I did use the entire roll of blue tape at the walk thru. Touch ups were done incorrectly and my experience with the painters did ruin my excitement for my new home.
