We bougth our dream house , but we have many problem with plumbing ( toilet) paint , door , landscaping cabinet etc . They sell us a lambo and receive a focus , It not fair , we are very frustrated , we not recommend this builder company at all .

Would hesitate to recommend this builder

The current market has allowed even the top builders to do the minimum because there is a line of people to buy the homes. We had an average experience with a builder that I went into with high expectations based on family in real estate and being a long time resident of DFW. If Highland is now ok I would hate to experience the builders that don't have the best reputations.

We still have outstanding items that need to be fixed. The laminate floor People blamed the floor issues on the carpet people and dull have not fixed my floor. A big hole was in the soffit. They came by and replaced the wood without painting it. Water was dripping through our room AC vent during the Freeze. Technician found no issues. Sprinkler system hasn’t worked since Freeze. Cabinet work had not been completed. Etcetera!!!

Our home is beautiful, but over priced for what you get. Highland still has not completed their final punch list of items that were to be completed prior to move in. We did not want to push our closing date as we had nowhere to go, so we went ahead and moved in. Now we have a list of unfinished items, which they promised they would come finish shortly after we moved in, but haven’t. We have reached out to the builder multiple times, no return calls, no return emails, one time he put a meeting on the calendar and we took off of work for him to no show. It’s funny how once they get their money, it’s no longer their problem anymore. Don’t get me wrong we like our home, but be prepared to chase your builder down if you want them to complete anything they “promised”. ... More

This was a tough situation Covid and weather made things go slower than normal. On one hand they were very responsive to making upgrades, changes and things that we were paying for. We did need to rush into the house a little sooner than normal due to the lease we had expiring so there were some touch of things that needed to be done and that is acceptable. The biggest negative I have is with the yard. The sod was dormmate when it was laid down and then the weather hit. It is starting to come around but there are large patches with no grass. Second the irrigation people didn't level back out the yard and there is a valley in the back where water sits and the grass won't grow. I went and bought sod and dirt to try and fix and reached out to the builder. Someone is supposed to come address but noting so far. The one side of the house has standing water always several inches deep and needs a french drain installed. The builder said this will be addressed but still noting back. The last thing is the fact that the builders just buried trash all in the yard. I am finding pieces of wood, plastic fencing, plastic lids an inch below the surface or in the flower beds. I am afraid to pull it up because I will leave a large hole in the yard and tear up what grass I have. ... More

There’s a massive lack of detail with highland homes. Maybe it was just our experience though? We had three different building supervisors, I don’t know maybe they just didn’t care. I can walk into any room in my house and find a handful of things that are wrong. On top of that, there are a lot of things that just look sloppy. No attention to detail, they just threw everything up as fast as possible and there was no supervisor watching. For the amount of money we paid and the quality of work performed, not impressed.

My home buying experience with Highland is a mixed review. From a floor plan/neighborhood perspective they have very nice floor plan options that are in very nice areas. My sales manager, Sarah T., was fantastic! She was very honest about answering questions and extremely responsive. She walked through each phase step by step. Without a doubt she was what sold me on building with highland and making my experience pleasant. I also appreciated my lending team and my design center consultant. When it came to the project mgmt/construction side - things unfortunately were not as smooth. I assume things in Covid added a layer of complexity in terms of materials and timing, but that should not have an impact on the quality and finishes on the home. When it came time for final walk throughs and closing my home was "finished" with lots of missed items which proved a lack of quality assurance (cracked windows, screws missing from glass door, damaged tile, bathroom drains filled with corrosion, messy cocking, VERY THIN flat standard paint which comes off EXTREMELY easy, etc.). Also there were A LOT of construction remnants left for me to clean and fix in a brand-new house which I feel is unacceptable (I.e. paint spots on floors, pencil markings on the tiles, base boards not flush to the end of the wall, windows not clean, dust on counters, paint/cocking all over most light switches door knobs, and more). My project mgr was responsive but I feel it was hard for my points to be fully understood and made priority. Highland makes a beautiful - I have toured several model and completed inventory homes to confidently say this. What I would say for new buyers is stay on the project mgmt side and ensure they are doing what they should be in terns of finishes. Sales process was professional. Massive problems with issues reported before closing - still not taking care off. Too many times we had invest our time for issues and no results. Simple things (i.e. shoe mold in kitchen) is still not taken care off. No communication from Building Manager. Very frustrating. More and more smaller problems occur and NO action after reporting.

Workmanship is crap. The painters suck. My 9 year old daughter could do a better job. The trim used inside is crap. MDF garbage For a 500k + house I guess I thought it would be better.

The sales reps Thea and Patti were great. They made our home buying process go very smoothly and made us feel very comfortable. Once we moved into the house we found that fans in the ceilings of the bathrooms were not screwed in, vanity lights were screwed into the dry wall instead of something secure, the base boards and door frames are very cheap material and will not last very long. Grout work on the tiles was done very sloppy. The backyards were not leveled out and barely any dirt was put down under the grass. Seems that the individual in charge should have been walking through the homes more often to ensure the workers were doing a good job. Seems as though some of the people working on the homes are not qualified and don't know exactly how to do their jobs. We found a lot of alcohol bottles in the home when being built so these workers are drinking on the job. We paid extra to buy the lots looking at the greenbelt but the workers threw a ton of trash in the greenbelt. We asked for the builder to clean that up but got no response. These homes are close to the 1 million dollar price tag and we expect good quality materials and better workmanship. Overall for the price we paid we were disappointed in the quality of work that was done in the house. When you are building homes in this price range you should have more oversight on the work being done and use quality materials if that is what you are charging. ... More

I’ve been dealing with Loud clacking noises over the stove top since I’ve been here. My front porch has large gaps between the bricks I can trip and fall or my visitors. I have asked to this to be fixed. Very disappointed in the quality of the home.

Sheetrock in living room was poorly installed. I had to move my furniture four times while they tried to fix a botched drywall job on high slanted ceiling. That I was promised would be re-done. They kept patching it. Now the head guy is saying ‘it’s not in the warranty.” They rush through everything. Was walking on the carpet and had a tack stick me in my barefoot...I gave them a 3star on responsiveness because they got back to me a 2days-week later. Trustworthy: The sales team were great...the builders that’s another story. I don’t trust them. I think I got a good deal on price and extras...I just wished they had done the house right the first time. I can still see waves in my ceiling. Drawers on cabinets are too small and narrow for anything (Kent Moore design). Overall, I like the house. But, I hate my ceiling. ... More

very hard and slow to get thing repaired they are always trying to get out of fixing thing

I probably would've have had a better experience with a another builder. They just want your houses done quick no matter what the condition. No communication after 1 month there was a big 10×10 hole in the middle of my yard and no one said anything about until i had to complain of course and 3 weeks later and the hole is STILL there.

Well if you show a model home and say you would give a customer the same exact without only one item the customer needs to hold your word for it. If the customer is paying for a premium product its not right to short change them. The fence color did not match and we were told they will fix the issue which ended up not getting fixed to date. The outside up-lights went missing and that is one of the signature aspect that made me go for the model that i bought. All similar models next to me have the and apparently when i asked i was told it was am upgrade which is not what i was told at the time i did my purchase agreement. House was supposed to be cleaned and garage pressure washed prior to our arrival that never happened. ... More

The problem still going on after we have been in the house for over 2 months.

We closed on February 19th and STILL have issues waiting to be corrected. At first we were told materials had to be ordered and they were delayed. Now we are told no one will come out with the COVID scare. Not overly confident that my issues are going to be taken care of ever at this point.

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. Just to list a few: chunks of concrete missing on sidewalks and patio, grout lines of disarray and missing completely in some places, 2 doors damaged, backsplash tile uneven, broken marble in the master bath, drywall cracks and visible seams, and paint on tile, wooden floors and on trim. Maybe expectations were too high. But for the amount of money spent on this house, I would have expected a MUCH higher level of craftsmanship in details. Base materials that the builder uses are lower quality (cheap doors, basic light fixtures, flimsy wood flooring, counter materials in kitchen and bathroom, little toilets, light switch locations, etc.). Maybe the "area" commanded such a price, but the end product was mildly disappointing. By the end, it was too late to correct it all. The construction manager was responsive during final walk through but not entirely reactive to make corrections. There was only so much anyone could do at that point without making the product worse. By the end you are committed, your heart is set on the location, and your mind is excited for a new home. Turning back is nearly impossible. Short of a daily inspection of contractors, how can one possibly keep up with and correct issues in real time. Everyday I find things in the house that are disappointing. This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. Also, we are very disappointed that even after our negative survey we filled out at closing to discuss these issues (closing date was October 4) not one person from the Highland Homes corporate sales office has reached out to us for feedback. We love our home, but nobody should finish a building project and wish things were different or with plans to fix things on your own at a later date. Unfortunately that was our experience. Our process began with a new hire running our design meeting. We were given no direction, no choices, and he had very few answers to questions we asked regarding upgrades. Having now gone through the process, there should have been a book or list to direct the choices we were being asked to make. Through the beginning of building our construction manager was great about updating us weekly as to what would be happening, but 5 weeks in her updates disappeared and would only answer emails on her timetable. She was completely unavailable outside of very limited set hours, which required us to take time off of work to come meet with her onsite. Late in the process we learned that our brick we chose was not updated in the showroom. The color we thought we had picked had been changed by the manufacturer and never updated the sample in the office. Highland did try to help by allowing us to change the trim colors to brighten the house, but it doesn’t change the fact our brick is not what what we intended it to be. Finally, our final walkthrough was so disappointing. The number of touch ups needed, damaged items, and unfinished projects were astounding. Our project manager assured us it would be done within 5 days of closing, but 6 weeks later we were finally finishing up the final walkthrough punch list. I know no house will ever be perfect, there will always be imperfections that only you the homeowner sees, but that unfortunately was not the case here. The house seems like it was rushed to meet our closing date, which we could have easily pushed back. Details such as internet availability was vague and misguided. Still don't have internet after nearly 2 months. Sales consultant seemed clueless about the tree removal behind house. Paint work is sub par. Floor is unlevel in several places throughout the house. Drainage around the house seems to be an after thought. Inconsistencies from house to house with same floor plan in the sections. Wrong fence per groves code installed on back fence line. Chesmar homes are building fences to code next to us. The construction manager has done a good job at meeting our needs with fixes. Seems the mentality is to build fast with disregard to fit and finish and try to fix under warranty instead of just taking the time to get it right the first time. Bricks uneven and mortar not installed correctly. The brick layer came back once to correct it and made it worst and use the wrong color mortar.The drainage in not slopped correctly and water sits in the backyard. The warranty representative suggestive that I purchase grass that will grow in damp areas. Sprinkler system not zoned correctly. I had to turn off half the sprinklers in order to water some of the grass that was replaced. If not then the area that does not drain water accumulates and just sit there longer then 48 hours.

When punching out your house before move in make sure to take pictures of each item and put it in a spread sheet to ensure each item is taken care of
