Poor paint quality, poor trim work, poor wall texture, bad cabinets. Moved in after 15 month wait, and still incomplete. It's a beautiful plan and a very nice area. Just, quality, from a highly expensive builder. Expectations are low.

-Lack of updates/ inaccurate and incorrect updates throughout the entire home building experience. -Constant follow-ups to inform the builder of the inaccuracies provided. -Treated disrespectfully and blown off. -Pointed out several issues prior to move-in that I was assured would be taken care of. (They weren’t when I moved in and I received no communications. I had to escalate and inform the necessary individuals of what the issues were and escalations continue.) -Issues with the AC leaking and a Gas Leak happened during first few weeks of move in. -Continued issues outstanding to date and the amount of follow-up/time spent on issues that should have been done correctly is mind boggling. -Many individuals within the same neighborhood have the same exact experiences and concerns -Horrible workmanship with no one double checking that things were done correctly. -Issues included on inspection report prior to move -in weren’t taken care of before I moved in. These remain outstanding. -Continue to find items that have failed to be done correctly regularly. Face value, it is a beautiful home. However, when you do your due diligence you find that the workmanship and information you have been provided fails to be accurate. Be ready for a fight for what is right and many many hours of your personal time invested having to work through items that should have been done correctly the first time. ... More

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... More

Relocating from out of state meant we needed stronger and faster response on queries we had about the home, statuses, changes/modifications, etc. Buying process was difficult, too much confusion between Highlands (due to a lack of prompt communication), their chosen Title Company and our bank (a major credit union); this was quite a stressful situation on top of our relocation. Title company apparently made a last minute mistake on a closing doc, and we almost missed getting keys to the house on time. Literally had to sit in their offices until they corrected the issue, and they were close to closing for the day. Highlands takes the blame on that because they chose them to run Title; perhaps Highlands should look into a better title company. Moving in was rushed (lots of outstanding problems the day we took keys). Several warranty issues and “blue-tape items” persist even to this day, about 90 days after move-in. Highlands wouldn’t help with any repairs due to the winter storm. Ice Dam or other roofing issue caused interior leak on the house (60 days after moving in). Ice Dams could be caused by poor attic insulation, but despite this, Highlands won’t help or warranty the problem. Really poor experience given we just moved in here. I understand the severity of the winter storm, but we should not be experiencing ice dam problems or roofing issues 60 days after we took keys. Not acceptable. We intend on writing their corporate offices. For what we paid for the home, I definitely expect more. Almost 90 days living here and I still don’t have basic items (“paint kit”, etc) when buying a new home, and several issues are still outstanding warranty-wise. The one thing they did do well during construction was the additions we asked for. Those were well executed (water softener line, and other electrical). That said, it doesn’t make up for the rest of the experience we went through, and I can’t say my wife or I are happy with Highlands (quite upset overall actually). I have owned many new homes from different builders and this has been the one with the worst quality of build.

Poor service. Poor workmanship. Not a pleasant experience.

Overall I am happy with my Highland Home. However, the whole process of building the home was disappointing and unorganized. There were several things in the house that were installed wrong and took a lot of effort and time to get fixed. I realized this was an imperfect process but the amount of issues that arose throughout the build (which usually were caught by my dad who is an architect and not the contractor) made me feel like I was getting taken advantage of. As this is my first home, I was extremely excited to get my keys and officially be a homeowner! However, when I moved into my home, someone had locked my thermostat at 80 which was not fun moving in the middle of July in Texas. Since my contractor was out of the office, my thermostat remained locked for days. Again, I was left feeling under valued. I will say, Tracy, from the sales office completely made my experience. She made my first home buying experience special and made me feel valued for my business. She was actually the one who came to the rescue when my thermostat was locked. She went above and beyond and was taking on roles that were not hers...she is fantastic! ... More

The workmanship is absolutely terrible. The subcontractors that actually build this houses don't care about what they are doing. There is trash everywhere. Beer bottles galore. One trade builds something and the next trade breaks or damages it. It's your average built house. They could do better.

Highland Homes may have built it’s better reputation in the early 2000’s for innovative, functional and almost high end quality materials. But in the recent years it’s quality and workmanship seems to be faltering. It’s been 86 days in our new house and there are already numerous issues of workmanship and quality of products installed. Had it not been with the construction manager and sales agent. I would rated it 1 star.

From start to finish, there was nothing that could go right for our build. From permitting issues for the the Sri way to having to redesign the driveway. Our 3rd party inspector found several issues with the proper installation of all the anchor bolts throughout the entire frame. All the bathroom cabinets and kitchen cabinets were heavily damaged BUT were still installed. Our building construction manager was informed about the cabinets but was told by the cabinet company they they would not be replaced only repaired. At this point I went to highland homes social media page and expressed my disappointment with the cabinets and the refusal to have them replaced. At the point I got a phone call from highlands regional manager who wanted to meet in person at the home to see the damages. He then expressed his apologies and said that was not to “Highland standard “ he made a call and the very next day all the cabinets were replaced with new undamaged cabinets. By this time we had Laos faith and trust in our building manager and his crews so we decided to show up unannounced to do walk throughs and this is when we found that all the paint and finish work was not up to “Highland standard “. The texture on the walls didn’t match and had to be done 3 time before it finally matched. Master bathroom tiles are loosing grout and the shoulder leaks. The bathroom window leaked for almost 2 weeks before it was resealed. We have grout in kitchen backsplash that is now cracking and separating. And now we noticed that anytime the furnace or ac is on, all the lights in the home flicker constantly.. so here goes another work order and letting more people into my home .. never ending bad dream.... ... We closed almost two months ago and they are still working on our house. I feel the work has been sloppy and not well done. It looks like I am fixing a used home instead of moving into a new home! I would not buy from them again! My mistake was closing before the house was completely finished!!! The price we paid does not reflect the quality of the home. We are very disappointed!

since Highland is moving out of this community least care was taken to the customers. Construction manager feels customers are slaves for him. How many times we need to follow up to get the issues resolved. We bought a brand new home so that , there no issues and we are good at least for 2 years. Till date in last 45 days, i had issues with my Air conditioner and roof. I don't know what all are pending. Had faith in highland homes till i bought this home. But now its a question mark.

No internet. Asked them to come out to fix things wrong once I noticed things not right and they have ignored me once I closed. Yet they said contact us we are always here

I thought I was buying a decent home until i moved in. The FIRST weekend, the plumbing backs up on us!. There was a stake in one of the trees that a genius landscaper stuck so deep into the ground that it cracked the cheap pipe that was used for the plumbing. To their credit, highland homes fixed it the same day. Week later, i discovered a roof leak due to a leaky roof jack. This was fixed a few days later. Now ive realized the ac installer that highland choses for my area is one of the worst rated hvac installers in Houston. They never tested the static pressure on the ac, the coils were full of sand, several vents were installed backwards, etc. I expected far better than this considering the price of the home . ... I canceled contract with Lennar to go with Highland Homes and I regretted it! Sales person was very aggressive and all over. Wasn't even there for closing or call to see how everything went. Not attention to detail nor concern with my needs. Always pushing my concern or additional work to outside source that is clearly a conflict of interest. Home quality is not there, I paid additional cost to update my kitchen cabinets and let's say the workmanship is terrible. Landscaping work is terrible! Have ask them to repair and still no change after three months.

The home is beautiful and we love our lot. The actual experience has been really poor. From a list of items that still have not been addressed since move in (8/2/19), to $1500 water bills, to no mailbox keys for 6 weeks and misspelling of our last name on a "gift" from the builder. I would say that, if given the chance again we would not move forward with Highland Homes.

Paint is everywhere, cracked tiles in the bathroom that still haven't been fixed. Leaking water line that they haven't come back to fix either. Will not buy another home from them.

WE PURCHASED IN SANDBROCK RANCH. WE HAVE HAD WEEKLY ISSUES WITH THE HOUSE. THE ON GOING ISSUE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM . ITS NOT JUST US, ITS NUMEROUS HIGHLAND HOMEOWNERS IN SANDBROCK WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE BREAKERS TRIP BECAUSE THE CODES ARE STRIC, BUT OTHER BUILDERS ARE NOT HAVING THE SAME ISSUES

While our Highland Home looks nice from the outside, it has been one frustration after another assuming ownership of this house. From failed promises to install a barrier wall that resulted in a vandal driving through our front yard (in a gated community, no less) resulting in hundreds of dollars of additional watering fees due to re-sodding, to HVAC duct work coming apart in the attic, to many other small to large issues, this has not been the experience described to us as we selected this builder and community. Perhaps ours is a unique case, but it doesn't feel that way when we speak to others in our neighborhood. Be sure to summarize every communication in writing point by point after each meeting as to your understanding and have them respond their agreement. Their people appear to forget easily. Not all their contractors are the best. Don't rely on their inspectors. Hire your own. We did like the floorplan and the location but we came close to walking away from the contract a few times.

Enormous demand for new homes has created an environment where subcontractors hire semi-trained or even untrained workers (on the job training). Their work is many times simply sloppy and sometimes unbelievably bad. The Highland supervisors ensure that work is performed to code, but that does not mean work is high quality. A new buyer must constantly question things that do not look "normal", and get them fixed before closing. i.e Highland "cheaped out" and did not put in foundation drip lines on the automatic sprinkler system; this should be standard on your new Texas home. Make sure wood trim is cut with tools, not box knives. Make sure the cheap kitchen appliances are upgraded, because Highland uses low-level kitchen appliances. Make sure the yard is graded correctly to prevent large puddles and mud holes, especially if you have children playing back there. Make sure you purchase 3-way switches for all areas where there s entry from two separate directions. Make sure you use the Highland warranty system to fix all the poor workmanship because you only have 1 year to get it fixed - some folks had been working for many months to get items fixed, nothing occurred until the continuous use of the online warranty system was the only way to finally get things fixed (again, because the building managers seemed to be too busy to remember the small stuff). Remember that sheetrock errors are MUCH easier to fix before the paint is applied. With that said, you should always get the builder to fix texture and paint errors at any stage of the game - but it is most effective before closing on your home. Highland is MUCH more responsive before closing than after closing (again, to busy for small stuff). Finally, get some help from some building experts to help you find all the errors before closing time. ... More

I was excited to move into my new Highland home, but I had some bad experience after I moved in. I had electrical issues the first week I moved in. My gas stove, most of my outlets and garbage disposal stop working. I also had plumbing issues. I took a bath in my stand alone bath and when I emptied the water out it all went into my shower pan almost causing a big flood of zooer water in my master bath. My toilet also got clog. The same occured my daughters bathroom. For two days I did not have access to both bathrooms. Thank goodness I have a third bathroom. I was disappointed that my first two weeks turned out this way in my new home. The builder over my home project has not been to great with my concerns. ... More

Just move in around 90 days and I changed 8 of ceiling light!!! Painting is bad, we just find out inside and bottom of kitchen cabinet there a lot of exposing nails. The floor of 3 out of 5 rooms are not evenly...hopefully that’s all.

Had to have brick removed and redone. The mail did not get delivered to community mails boxes for a month. The internet and fiber optic did not work until a month after we moved in. The caulking in house is already cracking & the corners of many rooms are cracking. I come home the other day with a giant hole in my front yard with no warning so i had no idea it was going to take place and was told they needed to run stuff (Electric) for the other part of development. No one told me that my front yard was the right of easement i guess we are supposed to know this.m It has been 5 days and counting with a hole in my front yard. I am the corner house and 2 months into living in my new home the handicap ramp is still just dirt and have been told many times it is scheduled but still nothing. ... More
