We had an amazing time with our Highland Home building experience. Our construction manager, Jonathan, was great, despite the supply chain issues we dealt with in 2021-2022. He is kind, funny, and really knows the industry! We do think things could have been accelerated but with the crazy market, I can only imagine what the builders, realtors, and everyone else involved had to deal with. Our sales person, Kristi, was phenomenal and just sweet in all ways. I could tell the ENTIRE time she wanted what was best for our sweet, young family!! The worst part was our Design Center experience. Unfortunately, Highland does not have their own Design Center & uses IBB Design in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metro. The people at IBB are very rude and NOT reflective of Highland as a builder themselves. This would be my biggest recommendation- have a Highland Design Center!! I would consider building with Highland again, but may want to understand who their designers are prior to signing. Yes, the designer was that bad that I would not want to build with Highland again for that reason. Otherwise, I LOVE Highland Home's floor plans, value, and that they are employee owned! ... More

First, Darren made the Highland Home purchase very personal and easy for us first-time homebuyers to understand. He spent lots of time helping us understand selection process for both inside and outside of the house. Second, Dexter came on board as the project manager and was also very personal. He did a great job keeping us informed throughout the building process. He always had time to answer our questions. Lastly, Beau did a great job taking us through the Highland Loan process and closing.

This is our 3rd Highland. We built another Highland in 2019 that had severe foundation issues. This house that we built in 2022 was significantly more expensive and we do not feel the construction quality is any different. In fact, there is a HUGE difference in the Highland we built in 2012 which was why we chose them again in 2019. Had we not micromanaged our new build every step of the way, the house would not have turned out as nice as it did. The biggest problem is the subcontractors they use do not do quality work. Lots of issues with cosmetic items (crooked sheetrock, uneven floors, scratches/dents on practically everything new that was installed and several plumbing/electrical issues that WE caught along the way. The Project Manager/builder seemed overwhelmed and would sometimes manage things quickly, while many other times left us hanging and not answering questions. They tried to tell us the long wait time was due to material issues, but that was not the case. The problem was mostly they cannot get good subcontractors to do the work. It is widely known by realtors and other homeowners that this particular neighborhood (Sandbrock Ranch) does not get the "A" list vendors like the more expensive neighborhoods in Prosper, Celina, etc. I would say overall, their new builds do not represent the level of what you see in their model homes. ... Smooth and easy from day one with all parties involved!

On first inspection of our new home there were very few minor details that need correcting. Which is unusual for a new home build. Highland builds a tight home. Robie, our builder was very quick to respond on any issue and corrected them in an extremely timely fashion. We will recommend Robie and Highland Homes as great company to work with.

Had a great customer service experience with Matt who is our construction manager. Always attentive to our warranty issues and solves them in time. Even the built quality is very good. All customization and changes were clearly explained even during the build process.

Started with Valerie. Best agent we met., Assisted us closely in all process steps. Being new to Texas we felt home with the welcome given by her. During the build, best lead contractor HH could ask for. Michael was very informative and responsive.. assisted us from design phase to final closure. We are at our easiest home ownership experience . Small thing we highlighted back for fixes and it was responded at the quickest time possible .. Michael was very hands-on and we felt very safe on this engagement and new house build. He delivered. HH itself delivered through your very good people.

We like our home overall and the options and features that were offered. Unfortunately we’ve found many quality issues in the first couple of months that we’ve lived in the home. Many of them were things we brought up prior to moving in to our home. It has been very disruptive to our lives working through the warranty process to resolve issues and often requiring multiple attempts to resolve the issues. Many of the issues we’ve just elected to resolve ourselves because they’re things we’re capable of fixing it and we don’t trust that it’ll be done right. Best ever home purchase experiences with Highland Homes. The builder would like to accommodate all our requests to make necessary adjustment through the construction process. Great quality of materials and customer service!

Building a home during a pandemic was going to be a challenge under any circumstances. While our build took quite a bit longer to complete than originally thought, we believe Highland was able to do it the fastest of probably any builder at the time. The most important thing to note is that at the end of this process, we still adore our project manager, Matt, and salesperson/assistant to anything we ever need, Lesli, and that says a lot! We consider them both dear friends. It was so reassuring to always feel that the people working with us were on our team, they advocated for us because they cared about what we cared about. Any issues that arise can be handled well when you have a team like this. And now that we’ve lived in the home for a few months, as things come up (and they always will) Highland is prompt to address any concerns. Our only lingering concern is the amount of construction debris, plastic and trash that is leftover and strewn across the beautiful acreage adjacent to our home. They of course tried to contain this but wind carries trash away and the field really needs to be cleaned up. We bought this lot because of the beautiful views and they don’t fill us with joy like they did before we built here because of the trash….there are two levels of fencing separating us from the fields or we would clean it ourselves. We are still hopeful it’s part of the plan that this will be cleaned up. But overall we are thrilled with our home and would choose Highland again. ... More

Amy and Walter were extraordinary in helping us get our home. They both answered our questions and concerns immediately. Both were professional and made our first home buying a great experience. I can tell now that the other house builders are second rate compared highland home when comes to personal and when comes to building home right way.

Our sales consultant Lula helped immensely in coordinating the options on our home so that we felt confident going into construction on our new home. Our construction manager Henry B. has been working with us from start to finish, and beyond. At all times throughout the construction process Henry was timely in his responses, professional in his explanations, and transparent with the process and any issues. Any time we had a question or concern, Henry promptly met with us to explain the process and make sure we were happy. A few small items have presented post closing, and we are very thankful to still be working with Henry, who has quickly responded and managed his team to resolve issues and be our single point of contact to maintain our great experience with Highland Homes. ... They are quick to respond and easy to talk to.

Are you looking for frozen hot water pipes during Christmas. Or perhaps a leaky roof that soaks into the garage drywall. Maybe bad finishes are more of your thing. Exterior doors that do not seat evenly into their door frames, interior doors installed unevenly and do not seat evenly (top of the door sits at a 10 degree angle), baseboard corners do not meet and are filled with caulk, cracked interior door trim that is sloppy filled with caulk and not sanded smooth, unevenly spaced tile, stained grout, visible seams in drywall, (drywall crew can’t do butt joints), crocked drywall due to crocked framing, damaged windows, 1 leaking window. The Highlands construction crew was kind enough to leave a 40oz beer bottle of beer festering within my bathtub cavity. The only reason I found it was because the tile in our master bath had to be re-tiled after fighting with the builder to correct an issue where shower water was spraying through the shower frame into the adjacent bath tub area. Also note that the construction crew that did this repair did not clean up their work area. I did and that’s when I discovered the bottle of booze. I am a first time home buyer that worked hard to save up a down payment for a new construction build so I could focus on my career. Instead my time has been consumed meticulously photographing the bad construction of this home and learning about proper construction methods so I can push back against the builders when they tell me the issues I point out, aren’t actually issues. This gaslighting from Highland homes and their unapologetic behavior is the cherry on top. Let them sit on their inventory. Their homes are not worth what they are priced when they can even execute simple tasks like properly insulating hot water pipes. This is spelled out in the contract. There are so many more issues I can share but I want this to be digestible for viewers thinking about buying from Highland Homes. Questions you should ask: How much experience does the project manager have? Not the guy listed on the contract, signing the paperwork - the actual employee overseeing construction and communicating with the buyer? Will the Highland Homes sales agent inform the buyer if any branded build materials are swapped out for a lesser brand? If the interior of cabinets are damaged, will the builder replace the cabinet wood or opt to cover the damage with wood looking sticker? Will my kitchen cabinets fit neatly within the nock like the Highland Home’s model? If not how will Highland Homes resolve the issue? Are the hot water pet pipes insulted from end to end to prevent freezing? If the installation of my exterior doors do not match the same quality I experience at the Highland Home’s model how will Highland Homes resolve the issue? Can I get this in writing? Should I expect my home to include any unfinished rooms that are not highlighted in the build plan? Is there any insulation between your wood flooring and the concrete slab? Is there any underlayment between your tile and slab to prevent tile from cracking? Now that mortgage interest rates are sitting at new highs I suspect home buyers are not rushing to lock-in interest rates and put earnest money down on these new construction homes. Please take your time. Hire a lawyer to review your contract and hire an inspector to inspect the home before the drywall goes up and before you close. I share this information not to bad mouth Highland Homes but to share my honest accounting of my experience. Our home buying experience with Highland Homes was horrible. The builder we worked with did not respect my wife or our realtor during the final walk thru. He told us what he was not going to complete during that time. We choose to close on 12/15/22 but was promised by the builder all items would be finished in 10 days that did not take place. It’s is 2/8/23 and we are still dealing with him and our master bathroom is still not done. It took us calling highland corporate and sending him multiple emails to get any response from him. His manager has not been much better with communication. Since our bathroom title was cracked the manager said Highland would get us a check so we could replace it after the fact and we still don’t have that. If anyone ask our experience with Highland this is that we would tell them. Why we chose a Highland Home was because of the quality and customer experience and none of those things have happened. ... Very poor experience during the home building and buying process. This was our 5th new construction home so we knew it was going to be rough but could never have expected it to be as bad as it was. Everything on this home had to be done twice basically because people weren't help accountable (the brick even had to be torn down and new brick installed - windows wrong color - wrong fireplace etc.), construction quality was extremely poor for this price point (closed over two months ago and still don't have everything complete - CM is great, things just move extremely slow), paid extra for upgrades that were never done (still working to get it resolved). For example, I paid to upgrade bathroom fixtures and they just installed the cheaper ones and never said anything. I questioned them on it and it is still not resolved (said a back-order issue but this was in my change orders at the design center from a year prior to construction). Too many issues to list in a review - some are being addressed, some I am going to just have to live with. ... More

When I was in buying phase , because of all the crazy bidding and other things in Austin market, I had really different perspective for home builder. Amy and Matt changed the perspective completely after working with Highland homes in positive way. Matt L and Amy A have been helping us from Stage-1 to Stage-10. Even after closing Matt is paying attention to all our concerns and provide explanation/learning as new home owner and address the concerns on timely manner. The house build is so good that during recent ice storm even without power, the house hold the 68 F temperature for next four hours and only dropped to 4 F by morning at 8 am. Outside temperature was 28 F at that time. Energy efficiency was super important for us and it proved to be best during recent storm event. Outside of that Matt and Amy has been teaming up to resolve all the issues and questions we had for different phases of constructions. During the final walk-in, Matt verified all the fixes we have on list. Matt take pride in building home and made sure he/himself is happy with work as if he were to move-in here. Matt is also most knowledgeable when it comes to construction and providing homeowner tips on how to maintain it going forward, and even show us how to do it while Amy has always provided insight into must vs good to have in house. Our overall experience with Highland Homes has been amazing. The team that includes Lesli and Seth have been awesome on every level of us buying our wonderful home. However, we had one issue that has stained our overall experience with Highlands homes. We moved into our home only to find out that we had a rat/mice infestation in the walls and attic of our home within the first week of moving in. A total of 7 rats/mice have been caught since and we believe there are more. My wife and I have lost sleep and our disappointment over the noise and interruption of our daily lives due to the infestation has only made matters worse. And while Lesli and Seth were amazing in responding to our issues regarding this matter, Highland Homes did not compensate us for the emotional damage as well as the loss of value dealing with this mice/rat infestation. They did offer to put us up in a hotel, but we didn't need that as we have friends in the area. We simply wanted some type of monetary value for the issues we dealt with and are continuing to deal with as it relates to the infestation. Our lives have been severally impacted and disrupted with this issue. We've had to cut open our walls to insert rat/mice traps, we had to have a pest guy visit every week on the hour to inspect what is going on. We even had holes outside of our home that were discovered by the pest guy after we moved in that needed to be closed and patched up properly. This should never happen to a homeowner who has spent nearly $1Million dollars to buy their home. It made my wife and I feel as though we weren't valued and or listened to regarding the time we have had to deal with on this issue. Our new home experience has been marred and difficult since we moved in. I only wish that we had selected another home now due to the experience we've suffered through due to the rat/mice infestation that we continue to deal with. I'm a little embarrassed to show off our home to our guest and family members as well as gush over the home with our new neighbors due to our rat/mice infestation problem. Again, this is not a reflection on Seth or Lesli. They have been great leading up to the buying experience of our home. Since we've moved in, the infestation has been a nightmare. I only pray that no other homeowner goes through what we have gone through. We will continue to grin and bare this experience that has not been fun to deal with unil all rats/mice are removed and sounds within our home dissipate. ... More

Highland Homes are beautiful! I love the open concept floor plan and high ceilings of my single story home. The staff is easy to work with and answered all of my questions. I moved from another state and was able to sign most of my documents online which was helpful.

Hello, Overall, my house is great. It's the construction around my house. Currently, two highland homes are being built by me. The construction workers are messy (leaving mud prints all over my driveway) and play loud music during evening times (after 6 pm) Please fix this.
