The sense of urgency ,great communication up until closing. it's been a hassle to get the house completed and repaired Just get a completed house then worry bout the little repairs

*For perspective, I have 24 years in the building industry (sales side) and built my last 2 homes in another state with other builders. My comments below are beyond the normal issues all new build have. What is not included is the lack of follow up, attention to details and planning. This home build with Highland has been rough. Tears, frustration, unease and distrust all flowed thru my family….but we went thru the build because we had no other options because we moved from out of state. Currently about 2 months into the home and we still have major repairs going on, here is a quick recap in the current state, I am grouping it by locations. Inside: General -curved walls due to bad framing. -holes were punched into the Sheetrock all around the home to find a bad wire because the power in the bath would not turn on….the breaker was tripped. Now have variations in the wall texture because no one looked at the breaker box before punching holes into the wall. -paint issues all around the home, painter had been back multiple times, just takes the tape off the wall and moves on. If any painting were done, paint drips and splatter ended up everywhere. Outside -had 3 driveways poured. 1 was cracked, 1 was installed with a expansion line that veered off 8” from center. The latest driveway has a significant chunk taken out of it and patched…also tool grind marks are in the driveway. I gave up on having a decent driveway put in and instead asked for a nicer sidewalk for compensation. They will do that…just have been left with no sidewalk, just a hole in the ground for several days. -the front profile of the house was compromised by weather proofing wrapping around the front of the home, unlike the model or other homes….it was just faster for this Sub. They corrected it but left black glue marks on the front brick. -several brick were left off the house and the soffit/gutters were installed leaving a 8”x4” hole in the side of the house. This “passed inspection”. -soffit boards and trim was cut short, leaving 2 more holes at the back of the home. Also passed “inspection”. -3 areas where we had stucco, 3 different profiles. Had to have them replace it to all match -had to redo the fireplace outside on the patio, the firebox was installed crooked. Also had to redo the whole front of the brick and hearth, crooked, cracked and glue was on it. Also needed a new mantel. -new front window was needed, scratched. -needed a new front door, the change order was not followed. -holes in the front porch brick/grout/mortar. Had to have them back twice to correct. -the front of the house had the wrong stain installed, had to get a new garage door and shutters. -shingles had to be replaced, brick debris stained the shingles. Living Room/Kitchen -for the first walk thru before Sheetrock, they had the wrong plans/no change orders. (Also didn’t bring a pencil, I lent mine I had on me). -fireplace was built to the small version, paid for the floor to ceiling and for a floating mantle. Had to tear out the corbels and add the top of the fireplace…5 different grout lines and uneven brick work on top create a wave effect. Had to tear it out to try again, still was poor workmanship (this time there was cracks in the brick from the tear out). Had to tear it all out and reinstall, this one looks good. -Flooring, in the process of the fireplace being fixed, they installed the wood floor and left it u protected, leaving chunks taken out of the floor from falling bricks. -back patio door is not squared up the transom above it, ordered the wrong size door. No fix for this besides hiding it with curtains (this is their current solution) -the wrong cabinets were ordered, the Change Order had no wine cabinets and instead regular cabinets put in. They installed the wine cabinets. -many doors and drawers in the kitchen have touch up not completed after several follow ups. -countertop had a deep gouge. -the top crown above the hutch was stalled crooked due to ceiling issues. -wood floor had oil stains on it from construction. -wood floor had been split, carpet installers nailed into the wood floor. Master Bath/closet -the wrong closet for the master was wrong, did not follow the change order. -once the right one was installed, the profile was not like the model. It was explained that there is 3 versions of this closet that Highland Corp designed and there is no way to know which one will be installed. We not have it corrected with nail holes visible , cut marks and glue painted over in a gloopy fashion. -master bath had a leaking window. -the tile has cut ends in the shower with paint on those ends, already peeling 2 months in. Should have used trike trim Upstairs/stairs -the skirt board on the stairs had 2 profiles, leaving up to 1” holes on one side where the riser and the tread meet. The solution was too stuff carpet into those holes so we wouldn’t see it. Also had a handrail that looked like a ski jump. As if this review, this is still not done. They fixed most of this, but caused enough damage that there needs to be another major tear out. -wrong carpet was installed upstairs. -all the bathrooms upstairs had their shower handles installed incorrectly, there is no fix for this unless the whole bath wall is torn out. -the window upstairs with an arch, had to be redone 3 times. Main floor -wrong tile installed in the powder room, they still installed the sink and toilet on top of it. New tile and grout has left behind stains on the trim. I have had multiple new builds, and the Highland team was by far the most professional, friendly and easy to work with. We love the layout and the neighborhood, and are enjoying our new home. That said, I would be remiss if I did not note that the quality of the fit and finish is sub-par, and judging by what I've seen them build not to their standard. Perhaps the quality of the sub-contractors is what is the cause here, but that requires some attention as there are so many issues that should not exist at this level of home /price point.

Our buying experience started off great. The sales rep was responsive and helpful. After we signed the paperwork and design appointment were completed the service started declining. Although the construction manager reported updates almost weekly, we had questions and small changes that were treated as huge inconveniences. Our construction timeline ended right around the original projected date, but when we went through the walk through we were given instructions not to complete the full checklist as “it wasn’t necessary”. While the construction and foundational work seems sound, the finishings were, for lack of a better word, sloppy. Many corners of the walls were not completely painted, there were many spots on the baseboards where large areas of damage that were just painted over, almost every single window opening is very uneven (so much so that the person who measured for blinds commented several times), paint is messy in the powder room, there was paint overspray all over the floors, the caulking all throughout the house looks like it was done by a 5 year old, almost all of our fixtures were not level, the paint was peeling on most of the door hinges, the door to the garage had the wrong type of stopper installed so it broke the first day we moved in and damaged the wall, and there was a piece of the flooring that wasn’t completely attached. Of all of these items, the only one that has been mostly addressed was changing out the stopper on the door, although the damage on the door was simply painted over. Despite the aggressive housing market that was summer of 2022, Highland Homes set themselves apart from other builders-the buying experience was as seamless as possible. From the sales team, to building team to financing; all were extremely responsive to questions and concerns and willing to make our home a reality. Supply chain issues might have caused delays, but quite honestly the building managers and supervisors pressed their crews to finish with limited delays. We can't say enough positive things about our experience. With some minor minor issues after closing, all have been scheduled and soon to be completed. At no time did Highland pressure is to close--ensure we were happy with our purchase. ... More

Jennifer and Austin were fantastic! They went out of their way to make sure we were happy with every aspect of the home. It was a great experience and we would highly recommend Highland Homes.

I felt the response time in addressing some issues were very slow and some of the workmanship left a lot to be desired installing damaged goods are just not acceptable

We love everything about our new home. We loved everything about the process leading up to purchasing it as well. The only issue we had with Highland at all was their lender Beau, who worked up all of our information wrong because he admittedly was preoccupied while taking phone calls with us and it almost cost us dearly.

Highland Homes as builder had a good name but in the recent home buying experience I felt little bit different. The construction work took one year to complete and the work was not up to the standard. Even though after pointing out lot of issues and errors in construction it took too much time for them to correct it. The repairs which were supposed to be done prior closing was left out and I was told by the builder that it will be done asap, but it was a false promise. Even today those repairs which was supposed to be done prior closing is not done and I was told to submit a warranty claim for those repairs. I don't understand why should I submit a warranty claim when it should have been done as a part of building process. When I went to the sales office to get more info about this, I was told not to come here and I was advised to contact the person responsible for the construction about this. I send emails but no answer yet. I felt this negligence during the construction period and in many occasions I witnessed slowness. ... More

I purchased an inventory home. The purchasing experience was great, smooth sailing and closed on time. The sales representative and finance team were very responsive and courteous. The minor problems were readily addressed by the Quality Management team.

Overall we had a great experience working with Highland Homes team here at M3. Our construction manager, Blake did a fantastic job overseeing the construction of our home from start to finish. We will continue to recommend Highland to friends and family as a reputable builder.

Hayley, our sales consultant, was earnest, sincere and helpful in answering all of our questions. This was our fourth house that we have bought. Hayley is by far the best sales consultant of the bunch. Dalton, our construction mgr, has been extremely honest and helpful in addressing any questions that we bring to his attention. Highland representatives have been great....and our house is well built and should last for years. Thanks Highland Homes!

Dustin was simply incredible - and exceeded our expectations in quality, professionalism and authenticity/trustworthiness. We've been in our home for almost two months now and are still receiving compliments on the quality and craftsmanship of the home. Even our independent inspector was complimentary of the quality of the home and Highland as a builder during a time when many builders were cutting corners due to the pandemic impacts on every industry. Our experience with Dustin was so great that my sister (who we were staying with during our build) and her husband decided to build a Highland home and join the Highland family after seeing our journey and hearing about our experience with the Highland team (Dustin, Ryan and Sarah). I'm not easy to impress, but in this case my expectations were exceeded several times over. We truly can't thank Dustin and the Highland team enough! ... More

The house is well design overall. The price was reasonable.

Through and through a great experience with Highland homes. The sales staff to construction manager to escrow agent and loan officer were all top notch. Thank you to Erin (sales), Jeremy, Preston (construction), and Matt (loan) for facilitating the process and making the move seamless.

The entire team from Sia to construction manager Alex to those in between with Alice and Miya were all great. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. It was a great experience. I would definitely recommend Highland Homes, but especially this particular team.

Overall great experience for us

We have moved into our dream home built by Highland Homes. Rikki our sales counselor was there to answer all of our questions and get things done for us. Cliff and Chuck, our builders did an excellent job on the home and Cliff has followed up on any issues we have had and immediately resolved them. Thank you Highland Team for making this happen.

Me and my wife moved from Ca to Tx. Mac and Dakotoa helped make it the smoothest move we have ever had. We are so happy with how our house turned out. We love every bit of it.

In an effort to keep this review brief, I will only list our general experience. Communication with our construction manager was poor throughout our build process. Our home inspector identified enough items to complete a 30-page report and we nearly walked away due to the severity of some of the issues. A mere two months after closing we have had 18 (yes 18 and counting-with at least 5 more visits pending) repair visits to address/rectify the multitude of problems with the home. Highland has the potential to be one of the, if not the best, builders in the area, however, the quality and workmanship fall short on nearly every level. The staff at Highland are amazing, very trustworthy and responsive. The quality of the house is medium - I believe because they are building so many at one time, the time to ensure details (i's dotted and t's crossed) need improving. I would suggest they ensure a team at highland is conducting a thorough check before the house is released to the buyers (lots of details - paint especially was not well done, and comparing to my former custom built home in a different state - material quality is low). It is not as stressful because the staff is very responsive to ensuring 100% customer satisfaction, so that makes a big difference. ... More

We have previously built a new home with Highland some 13 years ago, and our past great experience was not matched this time. Not even close. They were resistant to even minor changes in the house plan, and one employee noted the business model had changed 4 or 5 years ago. Frankly, the house was just not ready for move in, and the punch list grew longer every day. There have been electrical issues, plumbing issues, landscape issues, and more . 8 weeks later we still have items not completed though staff says they are working at it. We clearly are not a priority. This experience with Highland has been disappointing to say the very least, and I could not in good faith recommend this builder to a friend. ... More

The part that impressed me the most is the quality of the home building experience. From the materials they use to the managers who work directly with the homebuyers, we felt very taken care of with Highland Homes.
