Very difficult process working with Highland. Both closing and builder repairs have been a bad experience - based largely on promises from Highland that they inevitably break (sometimes almost immediately). Setting up closing went well, but the morning of closing I was told the home wasn’t actually finished. I should have seen this big red flag. I went back and forth for a few hours trying to get them to delay the closing for their failure to complete the home on time - but I was promised that everything would be completed within 48 hours of closing. Based on the relatively short list of remaining items they were willing to admit to, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and closed. Mistake on my part - do NOT close with Highland until you are fully satisfied with the condition of your home! Getting them to finish everything else after they have your money is like pulling teeth. Once we finally arrived at the home, we were immediately shocked to see the walls were not painted with the color and quality of paint that was listed in our spec sheet. When we pointed this out to the builder representative, he just didn’t believe us and promised us that the paint was the right color and quality. Clearly, to anyone experienced with interior paint, you can tell from the feel that the paint is not correct. And it should be obvious to anyone that the color is wrong. He promised he would look into it anyway, and he has failed to follow-up after 2+ months. There has been a similar trend with many other items in the home (faulty dishwasher, grout repair n the master bath, replacing a piece of damaged ceiling where a can light was drilled in the wrong location, installing missing pieces of trim, repairing damage to the marble countertops, adjustments to cabinets and drawers, and much more!). After promising us they could easily and quickly fix these items in a matter of weeks, it took more than 2 weeks to even get them to repair one item. If I was to leave my representative alone to figure out everything that needs to be completed, nothing would be done! And often the only response I get from him is “we’ll get right on that, I’ll have someone come out tomorrow,” and three weeks later we’re still waiting for someone to come out. If you do go with Highland, you will HAVE to contact your builder rep multiple times a day for the first month or two, otherwise nothing will get done! And talking to his supervisor wasn’t much different. I was told by the supervisor that he wasn’t aware there were any issues and that we’ll just have to “hit reset” on everything, start fresh, and everything will get back on track. No surprise here - that was also a clever way to shut me up for a week or so and get me off their back. NOT good customer service. And that doesn’t even go into the poor build quality. It’s obviously one of those houses/communities that must be put up as quickly as possible without regard to quality (but you still pay a premium for it). In addition to a terrible paint job, the interior trim (baseboards, door and window casings) is absolutely terrible. For example - very rough joinery that is held together with caulk. It’s bad work and it’s in obvious locations throughout the home. The landscaping was clearly just thrown together in about an hour or two. It doesn’t seem they even prepared or leveled the land underneath the sod - it remains extremely lumpy and difficult to mow. There were even large gaps between sections of sod that were too large for the grass to fill-in naturally. I think we will one day be somewhat satisfied with our home, but it will take a lot of work and out-of-pocket expense on our end to get it there. If you choose Highland, be prepared for that, and stay on top of the builder daily to ensure things are completed correctly and on time. Love our home but there are few issues I would loved to have addressed. After moving in we found a couple of minor flaws that I wish we could have fixed. For example, our driveway and pathway to our front door is not great. There are small imprints that are visible in the concrete. In our hallway, we have two light switches that control the same light. One of the switches should control the kitchen light. I was not aware of this issue at the time of our walkthrough. I was also not aware that I could have asked to have the driveway repaired prior to moving in. These are basically the only two issues I have with our home. Home is high quality. Issues that were supposed to be fixed within the first 10 days after closing are still not fixed.

We had an below average experience. Although it was mostly due to our real estate agent who did not have our best interest in mind, we also had issues with the sales counselor Kevin. He lied many times and spoke rudely to us saying we were not listening. The builder as well is okay. Things were not getting done right in the first place and had to be asked several times to be fixed. it was all mostly a lack of communication and provided us with below average experience.

Highland has been so great during the entire build process. Their company culture is centered around trust, and each employee has an equal opportunity to have a stake of ownership in the company, which drives their shared and vested interest in ensuring each customer is happy with their new home. Highland, like any builder, has its own challenges managing sub contractors that are inevitably the ones actually building your home, but Highland’s warranty, commitment to excellence, and absolute focus on building a trusting relationship with you as a homeowner absolutely overcomes the smallest issues as well as the minor near unnoticeable defects that anyone finds in their new home. From start to finish, they’ve been excellent. Even our realtor was like “I don’t ever feel like I earn my commission whenever I work with Highland, they make the entire process so easy, it’s undeniable they’re the best in the biz to work with!” Someday, I hope Highland opts in to build individualized homes on parcels of land individually purchased. Highland Homes has been nothing but an absolute blessing to our family. They are extremely professional and STICK to their timelines. We received weekly calls and updates while our home was being built and both Tim and Casey addressed any and all concerns we had right then and there. Highland is more than a Home Builder, they are an standard of what home buying is supposed to be. We have been living in our home for 3 months now, and ALL of our requests for certain items to be fixed or replaced were done so in a timely fashion. During the entire process, the sales team and construction team kept in touch with me and were quick to assist me with any questions/concerns that I had. They finished my home on time and have remained in good communication to address any of my needs since closing.

Build was fast and easy. Quality of material lacks and would have really liked a final clean to have the House ready to move in.

This is my second Highland Home & the experience has been pretty bad. Since I met with one builder at pre-construction meeting& then another took over I don’t think there was any real ownership of my build. Things just did not get done as promised. Shallow stairs are not, lighting changes were not done as told, trades that did the paint, grout, fence, fixtures, flooring were just sloppy. Job site was the dirtiest I have ever seen & I have had 5 homes built.

Our experience would have been wonderful if hadn’t been for our project leader - he was full of empty promises and we sit here today 3-4 months post close with items still needing to be fixed. We got so frustrated we stopped reporting and started doing these items ourselves. The workmanship is very frustrating in our new home when you pay $700k plus and get better workmanship from the Highland 45 we purchased previously from Highland in the same neighborhood. Your project lead blew this one!

This is my second Highland home that I have purchased. Out of all the homes on the market at this price point,, Highland Homes definitely has the best quality of home. The service at the sales center from Glenn is A+, and also the project manager Tommy is extremely attentive to all of your needs. I’ve been in my home for several months now, and had my first warranty call for a minor issue. Within hours Highland Homes was in contact with me scheduling the repair. Post purchase experience so far has been outstanding. I highly recommend Highland Homes.

We have had many issues, some still have not been reconciled. since we moved in back in June 2022.

Best part of the whole experience has been how quick and responsive Austin has been. If there’s been any little stuff that needs fixing, he’s been there either same day or next day.

Of the 4 primary homes I purchased in the last decade, this was one of the WORST home buying experience I have been through. The quality of work done for a model home is bad and after sale service is poor. I’m giving 2 stars rating since the Sales representative was exceptional

Moved in my house April 28th there were still a few issues that had been blue taped. I brought this to the builder attention and it was suppose to get repaired. It is now almost August and I have been given the run around. I have contacted the builder multiple times who tells me he will reach out to the flooring company and call me back and then I never hear from him. The flooring company calls and gives me the run around and now I’m stuck with a chipped tile that was that was suppose to be repaired. My bricks and mortar are starting to crack and chip. My baseboards shred super easily I think the material used is cheap. My house is so beautiful but there are some issues that I have had in the process. ... More

Love our new home. Had a few minor issue, but customer service response time was quick and they a have been addressing all of our issues in a timely manner.

The entire experience was pain-free. All of our questions were answered timely and any work we needed to be done was completed well above our expectations. We highly recommend Highland Homes and this community!

I'll start with my wife was involved in the Sales portion of the house buying experience. That not surprisingly went off without a hitch. The financing portion of the sale was also amazing. Now is where everything starts to fall apart a bit. My wife put in our first warranty issue, and we still don't have a functioning video doorbell. We had a tech come out and get the garage door functional but not the camera after the first doorbell was replaced due to a humming sound. All other issues were fixed on her first ticket. Now is where I come into the fold. I started looking at various things around the house and was starting to find a lot of issues especially with the drywall. The other issues were cracked tile, paint, grout in the bathroom showers, carpet, and some other issues. The initial part of the process was handled within the time frame promised. The paint contractor and his wife came out multiple times to fix several issues throughout the house. The issue they are having to fix over and over are the cracks in the corners of just every room. He also fixed some other minor dry wall issues here and there. The grout issue took a week or more to get that person out. The plumber who came out was on top of his issues really quick and resolved them quickly. The real issue was taking 3 weeks to get a guy out to repair some cracked tile. He pulled the toilet and set it in the tub. Fixed the three cracked tiles originally reported one being under the toilet. Issue there were two more cracked tiles under the toilet that the plumber pointed out when he came to put the toilet back in. Another week or two goes by and they finally get back out to fix the other two tiles. I went out of town on vacation and the tub where the toilet was left is now damaged and will need to put in another ticket on that. The tubs were also left with grout all over them without exception. With the exception of the cabinet company, the low voltage company and the carpet company people have showed up unannounced to do a repair, not a huge issue for me as I am unemployed currently, but I would guess this would be a huge issue for people who are working outside the home. I was also consistently no showed when I was told somebody would be here to fix the issues. I feel a lot of my issues could have been resolved upfront with a better-quality control up front. Tough time to build and buy a new home. High prices with limited supplies and limited laborers. Our General Contractor, Dave, did a great job working through issues and working directly with us. Hard to believe we paid such a high price for the home and that’s no one’s fault it’s just the way it is in this current market.

We love the home, but now have those nit-pickey items that need to be finished. I hope Highland responds well. So far, so good

We had a great experience working with Highland Homes and the entire team at Santa Rita Ranch, including Amy, Jake, and Larry. They were kind, courteous, responsive, and made us feel heard throughout the process. There were some hiccups and long delays as a result of some construction team turnover, but we were able to work through those and are happy with the final product.

While ultimately, we believe that we made the right home purchase for us. the process needs some work. The salesman tells you that Highland Homes can't do certain things and then we find out that for other buyers they might/or will. They tend to blame things on the Developer to get out of doing things for the Buyer. The Builder tried very hard to accomodate us; but ultimately he's limited by what he's told he can or cannot do. The quality of work is lacking. They need to adopt a motto of 'doing it right the first time'. It's got to be costing them a lot of money to come back 3+ times on some issues (cleaning off the brick; having a poor choice of blinds on the back door; substandard work on the tile in the master shower; etc...). The grass they chose is a poor choice for a backyard that gets lots of shade; their landscaper told us so; yet the Salesman would not let us choose a better grass. The wood-look ceramic tile grout is not sealed; and if we seal it within the warranty period, the warranty is voided. The same thing applies to putting in dimmer switches; the warranty is voided. There was about a 3/4 to 1 inch gap between our front door and the door sill. It took nearly two months to get it fixed. We had to jam a small rug under the door to keep bugs and critters out. We were told that we had left over paint in our attic, but none was there. The list goes on. They are all friendly folks; but getting things done right the first time is not their strong suit. ...
