Love the home, but due to COVID, they took very long to come and fix a few issues with our home. Still waiting on things that haven’t been taken care of.

Jamie and Nick have been great they do excellent job. Been great experience but have notices some of the construction such as island seems to have been rushed for assembly. installation of small things such as door knobs are not installed adequately but fixed. Attic area is in Canterbury has safety issue, the builders do not put sufficient stepping area when going up attic ladder so there is potential for falling due to 45 degree step up to AC unit. Recommend builder at least put one plywood in attic on alternate side of attic ladder for safety.

Very pleased with our home. Very comfortable and satisfied. Surprised there were no spouting on rear roof over patio. That should not be an option; it is as essential as spouting on front roof.

The overall house is good. Some of the work seems to have been rushed through. Little things here and there are not what I would call great but satisfactory.

Finish details inside and outside could be better. There noise on the vents, the door chime was broken inside the mechanism and fixed with a piece of card board. The doors don’t seal well. Little details on the painting on some doors. I know there is more. But don’t have it on top of my head.

Our experience with highland homes was for the most part a pleasant one. From start to finish the communication, customer service, and punctuation of our build timeline was exceptional. Tracy and James together made our experience pretty painless and exciting. Looking forward to making our house a home now. Thank you!

We were 8 hours away while house was being built. Salesman keep us in the loop and was very easy to get in touch with. We were disappointed in the standard choices at the design center and had to upgrade just about everything. House was completed exactly on schedule. Some things that you would think would be standard were upgrades. Such as ethernet drops in office and entertainment room, coach lights on front of house, different color paint, under cabinet lighting, ceiling fans in all rooms. All these things along with upgrading flooring, cabinets, tile, and granite end up adding substantial cost to the house. We love the house and neighborhood. ... More

Quick construction causes a few lapses in attention to detail but overall very well-built and much nicer than what competitors offer. Upgrades are pricy but the whole process was made easy by our construction manager and sales team. Will likely use highland again in the future.

We entered into a contract on a new Highland Home right before Covid hit. Even though we were unable to return to the home to do an inspection or walk thru, the construction supervisor walked us thru it on Zoom so we could get another look at the house before we closed.

The buy experience was very smooth but construction started off very slowly. Things picked up significantly when Harrison took over the project management. The biggest problem is the confusion with the address. For some utilities, we are in Rosharon, for others it is Iowa Colony or Arcola, but the postoffice says our address is Manvel. This situation has caused no end to the problems. To make matters worse, we have not received any mail since we moved in. The Manvel Post Office is receiving mail for us, but has not been able to deliver it. According to the them, they don’t have a key to the mail box cluster so they can’t load it. I’ve complained to the post office 3 times already, but they don’t seem to care. This applies to multiple of our neighbors. ... More

My experience with Highland did not meet the level of quality I expected. The team is very attentive during the sales process, but once closing is complete, the follow‑up and customer support seem to disappear. Follow‑through is one of the most important parts of any home purchase, and Highland needs to remember that. The workmanship has the potential to be excellent, but only if the crews take their time and do the job correctly the first time. For example, I watched a worker remove a tree from my backyard. Even though he had bags of planting soil on his truck, he chose instead to fill the hole with dry dirt taken from the empty lot next door. Why weren’t the bags of topsoil used in my yard as intended? Situations like this undermine confidence in Highland’s quality and attention to detail. ... More

Overall, we are very happy with our Highland Home and truly love the house. The quality of the build is good, and as a builder myself, I can say the craftsmanship and overall construction met expectations. The sales process was excellent — smooth, professional, and easy from start to finish. That part of the experience was handled very well. Where things fell short was the customer service and punch-list process. Several items that were documented and supposed to be completed before move-in were not addressed. Some items were even marked as completed, only for us to discover they were not fixed and had to be added back to the list. Unfortunately, those items still have not been resolved. That inconsistency is the only reason this is not a 5-star review. The home itself is great, but the follow-through on repairs and communication could be improved. If Highland Homes strengthens the post-sale service and accountability on documented items, the experience would fully match the quality of the product they deliver. ... More

Quality of the construction could have been better. I have seen a lot of minor issues within the first month of moving in. However, I do appreciate the responsiveness towards fixing the issues.

to many things were undocumented about the community for us being one of the early buyers that became concerning (power poles, location of mail boxes, timing for amenities) . the amount of time allowed in the design center was not enough if you want to review materials outside the "free" selections. the construction process is very wasteful and reactive - fixing things at the end versus at the time of the installment to avoid noticeable patch work. The sales team support and closing process was great and easy. the construction checkpoints and walkthroughs were very helpful. we had a few items carry over items after close and ALL of the items were addressed promptly ... Overall happy with house. Painters were careless and completely missed some spots. Some request during construction were completely ignored. Cabinetry work was less than ideal.

Overall, I’m happy with certain aspects of my new home, particularly the great location and the beautiful natural lighting throughout the space. The second floor has a well-thought-out layout and feels very comfortable and functional. However, there are areas that could have been better. The first floor feels too crowded, with limited space in the family and dining areas. The design leaves little flexibility for arranging furniture, which I found disappointing. I also experienced some frustration during the buying process. The sales representative was not very friendly and, when a mistake was made with the carpet installation, her response was dismissive. She said the incorrect carpet “looked better,” even though I had carefully chosen the original color and was not seeking her opinion. Additionally, I noticed poor workmanship in several places, especially with the cabinet and kitchen island installation. There were also multiple dings and imperfections on materials like baseboards that should have been addressed prior to move-in. While I appreciate many things about my home, I hope future buyers can benefit from improvements in both customer service and attention to detail during the build and finishing stages. ... More

We really enjoyed the PURCHASING process of buying our first home. The sales team was always attentive and the office staff were more than welcoming when we were signing our documents to close. Construction is a different story, while the home seems to be built well our construction manager is little to no help at all. Every single question we have asked has been answered, but answered incorrectly. We have been given several answers to our questions which has resulted in hundreds of dollars of wasted money because the construction team has given us incorrect info. I think they need to reevaluate who they are hiring to manage these houses and make sure the people in the field know what they are talking about before they start answering questions. ... More

To make the home your way, the items are limited to the design center. Didn’t understand if I was willing to pay for upgrades, why I was not allowed. Was not asked which landscape item I wanted

Initially we were so skeptical going with highland homes as we had deal with each sales agent (as they were changed frequently) and same with Construction managers but ones we have Michael as construction manager..things got in place and boosted our confidence in moving with highland homes ..as he used to provide construction updates everyweek ( as we were remote, wish we would have been at the site to have other minor changes) and always on call during the support for the time he had with us..definitely recommend Michael and highland homes for new house buyers.

We hired a 3rd party to inspect the home. Many issues were found. The report was provided to the construction supervisor and sales rep. A subsequent follow up by the 3rd party inspector showed that many issues remained. A copy was again provided to the same Highland individuals. A 3rd inspection was performed prior to close. A couple of issues were still identified. After move in one major issue was still unresolved - oven tripping breaker. We were assured prior to close it had been resolved. It was not. Disappointed about the failure to address issues and had to engage a 3rd party inspector multiple times. ... More

The issues we have are all post move-in for and finish and the lack of responsiveness and caring. Things were told to us that never occurred or multiple tickets were submitted for the same issue over the course of weeks. At week eight there are still unresolved issues from move in.

I have used Highland Homes on three different occasions with the previous home being built 30 years ago. All three previous experiences were very positive so selecting them last year for my 4th home was a no brainer. I didn't even show around. I realize building standards are not the same as it was 30 and 40 years ago, but this most recent experience took my off guard. Covid really took its tole on the building industry back in 2020 with equipment and materials being in very short supply and the workforce down to skeleton crews in many instances. Four years later the industry has definitely recovered, but with some disappointing changes. The first eye opening experience was during my selection process. The standard options were selections that were sub-par and in many cases, outdated. Upgrading to a more dated selection cost dearly, even for a slightly higher material. Due to the high prices, many times I kept with the standard selection and scarified what I really wanted. After a short time I felt like I was in the middle of a bait and switch scheme. It became almost laughable. By the time I completed the selection process I was very disappointed and frustrated. The next eye opening change came with the cabinets. If there was a corner to cut - literally - it was taken. The width and depth are much much less than in any previous home. Case in point, there are drawers in the master bath that are 2-1/2" wide by 3" deep - just enough room for a tube of toothpaste if you place it on it's side but not enough room to include your toothbrush. If a dollar could be saved, they were sure to take that route. There were additional upgrades I had not considered until that particular phase of construction was in progress. For example, the plumber was installing the plumbing fixtures when I realized the standard size garbage disposal was a 1/3hp unit. I am accustomed to a 3/4hp so I asked what my cost would be to install a larger size. Their markup was 300% above a reasonable price! Requesting any upgraded material or equipment during construction was at least a 300% increase! This was extremely frustrating. Eventually I purchased upgraded materials and equipment on my own and hired a contractor after closing to install for significantly less than if I had let Highland do the work. Personally I believe this is wrong on so many different levels and is unacceptable. And finally, I believe there were a few subcontractors that were not at the level I had expected from Highland. There were times I felt they selected a different subcontractor just to keep the project moving because their usual sub was not available. This is merely my opinion and may not be the case at all, but it sure felt that way with a few "high profile" subcontractors. My field superintendent was a great guy! He did everything he could to satisfy my requests. If I was disappointed with the installation quality, he would have them re-do it. That level of customer satisfaction went a long way with me and I was very grateful for his consideration. The four and five stars given in my review were because of him. ... More

I had to stay on them bringing build and do some stuff myself. Like making sure everything was sealed inside and out.weather siding people kept missing the stud pulse would holes in weather siding that weren’t sealed.Dont thing I have a straight wall in whole house.
