What is my character limit here? Because I need a LOT of space to explain. The process started fine, with some adjustments for COVID. But even accounting for some delays, Highland construction was hideously mismanaged. - From August to October, virtually zero progress because the local construction manager was not scheduling inspections with the city of Kyle. 10 week delay. Lots of yelling and screaming when we found out, they reassign a new construction manager who assures us he is on it. Expected move in now pushed from November to February. - House was making some progress at least, inspections being scheduled. We pointed out several items that would need correction - assured by construction manager that they would be taken care of. - February passes, still slow progress, being told due to inspections but when pushed on it admitting that they were failing inspections. Escalated to Highland Regional Construction Manager to get control of the situation. - March and still no closing date scheduled. Several items we had been pointing out for months are still not corrected. Construction manager assures us he is "on it". - April, and FINALLY a closing date. Several items still outstanding. Main one of which is outlet and switch covers (48 in total) that were cut WAY too big (some over 1/2 in too big) during drywall phase. We ask to get them fixed. Contractors spackle and paint WITHOUT REMOVING THE COVERS, so covers are now covered in spackle and paint, texture is missing around them. We complain about this and some other items enough that the regional manager, area manager, and local construction manager all meet with us at the house a week before closing. We are ASSURED it will all be fixed before close. - Day before closing - multiple outlet and switch covers still not fixed, along with a number of other items. We escalate to delay closing. Are ASSURED it will be fixed by end of day. [Narrator: It was not fixed by the end of the day] - Closing day. We sign papers. We go to inspect our new house and get keys. EVERYTHING IS STILL NOT FIXED. We yell at the construction manager, we call the regional and area manager. We are ASSURED it will be fixed before we move in the next day. - Moving day. We arrive at the house at noon. There are drywall workers with 5 gallon buckets of spackle, spray guns, and spatulas working all around the house. Plastic sheeting is spread on most of the floors. WE HAVE 3 MOVING TRUCKS OF STUFF ARRIVING IN 20 MINUTES. On the phone with Regional Manager who says they'll get done and out as fast as they can, but we need to not put stuff around the walls because they need to come back and paint the next day. So basically, we can move our stuff in but can't really unpack. It took a WEEK to resolve to the point that we could actually put furniture where it belonged. - Post move in, it took 6 WEEKS just to clear the Closing punch list (stuff that should have been fixed before closing). Contractors showed up with limited to zero information on why they were there, and us having to explain every time what needed to be done (this should be Highland Homes job, right?). - Post closing, still finding items that were clearly not installed correctly that should have been identified by any competent construction manager. Entry way doors with zero weather stripping as an example. - In the end, we love our new home's floor plan, our lot, and our neighborhood. But never again will we put up with such a horribly mismanaged construction process. ... More

The staff was great to react to any identifiable problems. Very friendly and helpful.

Easy to work with during building process

Great experience during the whole construction project. I wish I could be informed more when the people were working on the house, that way I could see any things that wasn’t done properly.

Quality promised was not present after closing. I am not happy & I should be.

Although we didn’t begin the design process of our home, we were fortunate enough to snatch an inventory home a few weeks before completion. Through out the whole process from when we put down the earnest money, up until now two months into moving into our home, Highland Homes reps have been nothing but helpful and attentive to all our needs. I’m so glad we decided to go with Highland Homes over any other builder and I won’t hesitate to choose so again in our next home buying experience.

Quality of build is great. Materials do not feel cheap like other builders.

Nelli my sales counselor and my builder Ashton have set a very high standard in customer care. The knowledge and expertise was exhibited throughout the process. I have a beautiful home, the timeline was met with no delays, i really felt valued as a customer. They worked hand in hand with my real estate agent and we were in constant communication. All the while me being out of state!

Great buying experience I had with Duwayne from highland homes

The workmanship of their contractors are some of the worst I've seen in central Texas. The construction manager tries to keep up but he was constantly missing details and big things in the house. The floor was an absolute disaster and doesn't look anything like the design center. They all point fingers at each other to excuse the poor workmanship and materials.

The responsiveness and willingness to fix issues was second to none. I think it was an excellent experience!

Kelly was our sales rep and I can’t say enough good things about her. She always had a smile, answered text or calls quickly and was just an overall dream to work with. Renee was the in-house financing for us and made a quick close go so smoothly for us. Working with the builder to correct issues that lingered from closing was frustrating but I would not let that steer me away from another purchase in the future.

The builders, Jeff & Blake, have been so incredibly helpful. I’m glad to know I am working with a builder I can trust and rely on.

Highland homes builds an amazing home, great quality and helpful and diligent employees from Sales to Build to Closing! Extremely satisfied with our new home!

We purchased a Highland home in April of this year and have had multiple issues. One of the main issues was our granite kitchen countertop had a crack that ran from one side to the other and our previous construction mgr didn't want to replace it and kept telling us it was a natural fissure which it was not. We had to go to his boss to get this resolved and it took several weeks but they finally replaced it 2 weeks after we moved in. We did our 10 day walk through before our closing day and marked multiple issues that needed to be fixed. Several of these issues were not addressed and we had to deal with them AFTER we moved in. Our home was 90% complete that day we moved in and had to have multiple people come over weeks after to fix all of the unfinished/improperly done items. The people that we dealt with @ Highland are hard to get a hold of and not very responsive or communicative. The sales person disappeared as soon as everything was signed on the dotted line and money was funded. He knew how many issues we were having and has not once called or checked in to see how our experience has been. I have reached out several times, no response. Pretty much after 4/5 pm, you can't get a hold of anyone and they won't even text you back. We had to constantly reach out to them to get any response and to get anything done. It has been 7 weeks since we moved in and the last item is finally getting resolved on our home. We looked at multiple home builders and we went with Highland based on their reputation and reviews. This has not been a great experience for us as first time home buyers. They build a nice home and it is laid out really well but all of the issues we have had along with the communication issues has really darkened our experience with Highland Homes. ... More

Pro: Blake N. our builder was tops. We had confidence and satisfaction throughout the build because he has been so helpful and responsive to us. Con: The people who put in the yard did a rotten job. It's filled with ruts, bumps and weeds. Compared to other yards around us, ours is pitiful.

The home overall is a great home. I had a lot of rough times with the builder with things not been done right seem as they were taking a lot of shortcuts to cut cost or either the trades didn't care. I have since moved into home and the trades throw their trash on the side of home, they have walked down sod which is nothing but mud now paint on my side and up against my home and I've said something mortar mix thrown all against home, window and A/C unit. Happy with home but not happy on how the trades not held accountable for damaging my home and leaving mess for me to clean up.

Overall a good experience. Was a little disappointed that some things weren’t done right the first time and had to have someone come fix it. We love our home though

Great service from start to finish.....is our second Highland Home and have had positive experiences with both to date.

Our family's experience with Highland Homes was interactive, timely, and personal. I would absolutely recommend a Highland Home. When the team at Highland met with our family initially to the day we closed was a positive journey.

Both our Sales Rep (Tracy) and Construction Manager (Mike) were professional and communicated clearly - in other words, our expectations were managed well. We closed as expected and could not be happier with our new home!

The ladies that helped us in the sales office were amazing, helping us with every question or request we had and in a very timely manner, considering how busy they always were. Our PM was great as well, explaining everything in detail as we did our walk throughs, and answering any questions or concerns we had with any aspect of the house. Overall, we had a great experience.
