We really enjoyed the PURCHASING process of buying our first home. The sales team was always attentive and the office staff were more than welcoming when we were signing our documents to close. Construction is a different story, while the home seems to be built well our construction manager is little to no help at all. Every single question we have asked has been answered, but answered incorrectly. We have been given several answers to our questions which has resulted in hundreds of dollars of wasted money because the construction team has given us incorrect info. I think they need to reevaluate who they are hiring to manage these houses and make sure the people in the field know what they are talking about before they start answering questions. ... More

To make the home your way, the items are limited to the design center. Didn’t understand if I was willing to pay for upgrades, why I was not allowed. Was not asked which landscape item I wanted

Initially we were so skeptical going with highland homes as we had deal with each sales agent (as they were changed frequently) and same with Construction managers but ones we have Michael as construction manager..things got in place and boosted our confidence in moving with highland homes ..as he used to provide construction updates everyweek ( as we were remote, wish we would have been at the site to have other minor changes) and always on call during the support for the time he had with us..definitely recommend Michael and highland homes for new house buyers.

We hired a 3rd party to inspect the home. Many issues were found. The report was provided to the construction supervisor and sales rep. A subsequent follow up by the 3rd party inspector showed that many issues remained. A copy was again provided to the same Highland individuals. A 3rd inspection was performed prior to close. A couple of issues were still identified. After move in one major issue was still unresolved - oven tripping breaker. We were assured prior to close it had been resolved. It was not. Disappointed about the failure to address issues and had to engage a 3rd party inspector multiple times. ... More

The issues we have are all post move-in for and finish and the lack of responsiveness and caring. Things were told to us that never occurred or multiple tickets were submitted for the same issue over the course of weeks. At week eight there are still unresolved issues from move in.

I have used Highland Homes on three different occasions with the previous home being built 30 years ago. All three previous experiences were very positive so selecting them last year for my 4th home was a no brainer. I didn't even show around. I realize building standards are not the same as it was 30 and 40 years ago, but this most recent experience took my off guard. Covid really took its tole on the building industry back in 2020 with equipment and materials being in very short supply and the workforce down to skeleton crews in many instances. Four years later the industry has definitely recovered, but with some disappointing changes. The first eye opening experience was during my selection process. The standard options were selections that were sub-par and in many cases, outdated. Upgrading to a more dated selection cost dearly, even for a slightly higher material. Due to the high prices, many times I kept with the standard selection and scarified what I really wanted. After a short time I felt like I was in the middle of a bait and switch scheme. It became almost laughable. By the time I completed the selection process I was very disappointed and frustrated. The next eye opening change came with the cabinets. If there was a corner to cut - literally - it was taken. The width and depth are much much less than in any previous home. Case in point, there are drawers in the master bath that are 2-1/2" wide by 3" deep - just enough room for a tube of toothpaste if you place it on it's side but not enough room to include your toothbrush. If a dollar could be saved, they were sure to take that route. There were additional upgrades I had not considered until that particular phase of construction was in progress. For example, the plumber was installing the plumbing fixtures when I realized the standard size garbage disposal was a 1/3hp unit. I am accustomed to a 3/4hp so I asked what my cost would be to install a larger size. Their markup was 300% above a reasonable price! Requesting any upgraded material or equipment during construction was at least a 300% increase! This was extremely frustrating. Eventually I purchased upgraded materials and equipment on my own and hired a contractor after closing to install for significantly less than if I had let Highland do the work. Personally I believe this is wrong on so many different levels and is unacceptable. And finally, I believe there were a few subcontractors that were not at the level I had expected from Highland. There were times I felt they selected a different subcontractor just to keep the project moving because their usual sub was not available. This is merely my opinion and may not be the case at all, but it sure felt that way with a few "high profile" subcontractors. My field superintendent was a great guy! He did everything he could to satisfy my requests. If I was disappointed with the installation quality, he would have them re-do it. That level of customer satisfaction went a long way with me and I was very grateful for his consideration. The four and five stars given in my review were because of him. ... More

I had to stay on them bringing build and do some stuff myself. Like making sure everything was sealed inside and out.weather siding people kept missing the stud pulse would holes in weather siding that weren’t sealed.Dont thing I have a straight wall in whole house.

Working with the Highland office girls and the construction supervisor has been overall positive. I have been in the home since mid November, and continue to find things that the actual construction workers missed doing or did poorly. I guess it's hard to find good carpentry these days. The Highland homes have good curb appeal, that's what caught my eye.

The Highland Homes sales and construction staff make this builder pleasant overall, which is why I gave it a higher "star" rating. The staff is incredibly responsive and wants to make things right and on time. My only disappointments are with the finish-out selections in some areas throughout the townhome, which are subpar and could be brought up a notch without hurting the bottom line. There simply in no excuse for some the cheap choices. For Example the dome lights in the bedrooms. These are so incredibly cheap, ugly and frankly insulting. But I will leave it at that. Having good models but the prices are overpriced than market

This was the fifth home that my wife and I have built. Our second home was a Highland home as well. This was the most difficult build. It took 13 months to build our home. We signed the contract in August 2023 and construction finally got started in January 2024. Although Highland has a reputation for building quality homes, this time, the workmanship and materials were just ok. Our biggest frustration was with the workmanship of the contractors. Multiple times for a contractor to come back and fix poor workmanship. Also, our builder had just too many homes to oversee resulting in things being missed, broken by other contractors, etc. We asked to close by the end of August but after meeting with the builder and sales person, they ask to extend to September 18th to give the builder time to have everything done. The week before September was a mad scramble trying to get all the contractors at the house to try and finish. We did close on the 18th but still had a lengthy list to continue to get fixed over the next 2 weeks including cabinets in the kitchen with no shelves. Now after 5 weeks of being in, our house is together and we’re happy with the house. I don’t think we’ll ever do a new build again. I will say this, our builder worked tirelessly helping us but working with sloppy contractors and too many house given to him to oversee made his task almost unbearable. ... More

Collin Thompson, the builder has been nothing short of amazing. When i moved in, there a few ticket items that needed to be addressed. The previous builder was dragging his feet on them. Collin swooped in and took over l and men, I can't say enough how professional, attentive, efficient and kind he was to my needs. He went way above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of and in a timely fashion too. He was very flexible with my schedule. He was patient with me. He delivered 1000%. And maintained communication with me every step of the way. Thank you so much Collin for such a great experience so far. He even got his hands dirty himself for my sake. I dunno the other guys by name but the staff he had come over to take care of my ticket items were great as well. So thank you all. ... More

The builder made many promises to correct some issues. Never completed!

The buying experience was good.

Overall we are happy with our home but we do have some things we are very disappointed with. This is the first home we did not build from the ground up and we know things won’t be perfect but there are issues, the dining room light isn’t centered which will look bad when a table is properly placed in the room. There is paint all over door knobs and stoppers, the quality of the paint job on some doors and trim is very poor with dried paint dripping showing. There is a big texture patch in the laundry room where they either got the texture applied wrong or had to patch the area and didn’t texture good. Some doors are warped. Some door trim cuts do not align or the boards are damaged. In the master bath above the mirror there are sunken anchors in the wall above the mirror as if they had something placed there before but then removed it and then they painted over the anchors. The landscaping is a hodge podge of various plants with no rhyme or reason to them. These are all things we have discovered after being in the home, we did do a walk through and MANY things were addressed and fixed before we moved in but there are obvious things that can be missed during that walkthrough and that is what I am describing in this review. ... We decided to buy another Highland Home because we loved our first Highland Home. The second Highland Home we purchased was a model home. It is very nice but it seems some of the workmanship isn’t as great as our first home. I was also not impressed with Mr Cason’s attitude when doing our walk through. Apparently, the sales person Brad left out that when you buy a model home it sells as is, this was very disappointing since this wasn’t told to us until the day before closing. We still like our home and have been fixing/repairing the few items that Highland said are not covered. Lastly, there was a mural in one of the bedroom walls and Highland accidentally had it painted over due to some miscommunication, this was very disappointing and Mr. Cason didn’t seem to care. There is no doubt that I would buy another Highland Home, but probably not a model home. ... More

Sales team is good and the experience was great. The building team is not as responsive. Overall, the quality of workmanship is good.

The buying process have been smooth except that there’s a lot of pending issues of the house that hasn't been fixed until now and it's been 2 most since the closing date. They knew about this issues before the closing date and we have been patiently waiting for them to fixed it. The builder even told us during the buyer's orientation that they will have a 1-month follow up after the closing date to check if how is the house, but no one came, I guess there is no such thing as that. I hoping they'll be more responsive and act timely not just in words but in action.

I will preface this message by saying our experience with the sales counselor, Thea, and on site construction supervisor. Chuck, has been positive. However, I don’t believe that our Highland home was/is a good value. There were issues before we moved in. There have been issues that we continue to deal with and new items of poor quality and craftsmanship seem to surface almost daily. We had heard very positive comments about the quality of Highland homes, and I believe in other homes, that’s accurate, however, this home does not appear to have been built in the same manner. My list of items to be addressed continues to grow, but we really would like someone at the corporate level to either come to our house or talk with us directly about these ongoing issues and overall poor quality. Everyone we spoke with was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the process. There were a few issues that needed to be fixed that were noted before closing. Upon closing and moving in, we noticed a lot of issues. The paint, trim, cabinets, and drywall work was very messy and it has been frustrating working with these vendors to get the work corrected. They are relatively minor issues, but are issues that would be pointed out by the next buyer. It’s an incredibly beautiful home, but we wish there was more attention to detail.

The house product is great. We love the home and design. My complaint will be that the project managers need to pay attention to detail with the trades coming in doing the work. They are not checking the work and the quality. For the price point, you would expect a greater attention to detail and quality. The overall experience was good just detail and closing presentation needs work. House was not presented in the way I expected at close.

I do love the Dorset townhome but there were some issues like shower and toilet backing up because a test ball was left in the plumbing. Roof leaking after a couple of days of rain. These were the worst problems. All others were minor. When I purchased my last home I received a manual with detailed information on my home. Take note Highland.

We appreciate their willingness to listen and address our needs throughout the process. However, there's room for improvement in their responsiveness to issues that arise post-construction. It seems like the building managers might be stretched thin, affecting the response time to certain concerns. Enhancing this aspect could further elevate the overall customer experience. Love my new home and it looks great. Took two months after moving in to complete quality / warranty problems. Problems included things like exterior doors alignment, appliances tripping circuit breakers, exterior mortar and caulk voids, lighting fixtures (broken, alignment or missing), some of the standard interior fixtures are cheap, window screens damaged. Sales people implied some model home features were standard features.
