The problem still going on after we have been in the house for over 2 months.

We closed on February 19th and STILL have issues waiting to be corrected. At first we were told materials had to be ordered and they were delayed. Now we are told no one will come out with the COVID scare. Not overly confident that my issues are going to be taken care of ever at this point.

Actually disappointed with the new build construction and lack of responsiveness with our Highland home. (Quite inferior to our previous Builder home/experience). No doubt that the bones of the house are quality; however, overshadowed by the subpar craftsmanship of the internal and external finish out. Several major issues pointed out to the construction manager during the building process along with many cosmetic issues prior to closing. Unable to use our master shower upon move in and zero faith that any of our issues will now be address since the money has now been funded to Highland. Just to list a few: chunks of concrete missing on sidewalks and patio, grout lines of disarray and missing completely in some places, 2 doors damaged, backsplash tile uneven, broken marble in the master bath, drywall cracks and visible seams, and paint on tile, wooden floors and on trim. This is our second Highland Homes new build (the first was in 2012 in The Tribute.) The experience this time around was not at all the same. Overall, we like our house but only because we had to nitpick and complain about things from the day the foundation was poured. Nearly every surface in our house had an issue that we had to manage the builder on. We did have some resolution on certain issues, but overall, the quality of this build and the experience was not what we envisioned. We will probably build another house again in the next few years and will most likely not consider Highland. Also, we are very disappointed that even after our negative survey we filled out at closing to discuss these issues (closing date was October 4) not one person from the Highland Homes corporate sales office has reached out to us for feedback. The sales representatives were fantastic. We were always treated with respect and courtesy when visiting the sales/design center. Once in the house, things changed slightly. On move in day, we attempted to hook up our dryer (electric) when I was shocked due to the plug being wired incorrectly. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the plug had no ground thus allowing for electric feedback. I had to re-wire the plug correctly. Next, after a further (detailed) inspection of the house it was discovered that there are many quality related issues that in my opinion are unacceptable. The quality of he painting is quite poor and there is paint on everything (tile, wood floor, cabinets, etc). I know for a fact that the contractors were back several times to repair issues but there still seems to be a disconnect with what quality work is expected. I know this seems petty but there are many other cosmetic/ quality craftsmanship issues that are too much to list. The final issue that effected the overall rating is the waterline to the refrigerator. On move in day we brought in our refrigerator and hooked it up to the waterline for the ice maker. After trying the water dispenser it was discovered that there was no water supply to the line and therefore this feature was unable to be used. I emailed Highland of the issue and waited nearly 1 month to hear back. Once I sent a reminder email, the contractor was called and scheduled immediately. The contractor arrived on the appointment day to check but was not able to fix the issue. Even though I thoroughly explained he issue, they still sent a technician over to see if the waterline was turned on and ensure the line was connected correctly. Once this was verified, I was told that he was not able to fix the issue since this is not a one man job. He told me that the office would call to reschedule and they would need to send over another crew to investigate. I have not burned a days vacation for a 10 minute appointment with not result. The frustrating part of the entire process is that the contractors who need to perform the repairs are only available Monday thru Friday during normal business hours. This means that the homeowner must rearrange their schedule so the poor quality craftsmanship can be repaired at the contractor convenience. Seems a little backwards from how customer service is supposed to work. I really had high expectations from Highland since we've looked at this houses before, lived in one previously, and had such a great experience with the sales team. I question whether or not I would repurchase another Highland Home and currently feel as though I would definitely not recommend them to friends and family. Choose your house engineer carefully if you can. Make sure they actually understand what’s happening inside the house. In my case, the concrete was poured on a rainy day, which led to cracks. Any concerns I raised were brushed off as “common.” There was no blue-tape walkthrough, even a month after moving in, supposedly due to a “new Highland policy.” A design center mistake caused mismatched grout in the bathrooms that was never corrected, even though I was told verbally it would be. Several promises were made but not delivered. As a corner lot, we were supposed to receive upgraded side trees, which never happened. I was also told the exterior electrical setup would be finalized later, but that discussion never took place. Highland might build great homes, but your experience really depends on The Who is over seeing your project builder you get. ... More

Love the design of our home but it’s been an absolute headache dealing with so many issues that need to be fixed. Tired of having workers in and out of my house nearly 3 months after closing. Many of these issues could have been avoided with just a little competence in project management. I’m sure we’ll love our home long term but the process getting there has been terrible

The worst experience, that I ever had in terms of home buying. We are still waiting on things that need to be completed. I will never recommend anyone else. Poor crafmanship, late response time, and many more issues .

Our buying experience started off great. The sales rep was responsive and helpful. After we signed the paperwork and design appointment were completed the service started declining. Although the construction manager reported updates almost weekly, we had questions and small changes that were treated as huge inconveniences. Our construction timeline ended right around the original projected date, but when we went through the walk through we were given instructions not to complete the full checklist as “it wasn’t necessary”. While the construction and foundational work seems sound, the finishings were, for lack of a better word, sloppy. Many corners of the walls were not completely painted, there were many spots on the baseboards where large areas of damage that were just painted over, almost every single window opening is very uneven (so much so that the person who measured for blinds commented several times), paint is messy in the powder room, there was paint overspray all over the floors, the caulking all throughout the house looks like it was done by a 5 year old, almost all of our fixtures were not level, the paint was peeling on most of the door hinges, the door to the garage had the wrong type of stopper installed so it broke the first day we moved in and damaged the wall, and there was a piece of the flooring that wasn’t completely attached. Of all of these items, the only one that has been mostly addressed was changing out the stopper on the door, although the damage on the door was simply painted over. I would say start away from Highland. They claim to be premium builder but don’t know how to address their customers. It’s been 2months after closing but the builder failed to give what they promised in the contract. I am frustrated after multiple folllow ups.

The buying process was great from the sales (Angela) to buying (Mattew). But quality of material, workmanship, trustworthy and price is just bad in every way shape and form. I won’t recommend anyone for this price, we deserved better. A lot of defects and all around inexperienced people were involved in the construction from start to finish. Just BAD.

I moved in couple of months back and till now I am experiencing issues . My home is still in 50 percent construction zone . I have to fight for things to be fixed . Bad drive way , patio concrete all messed up , lot of finishing issues , had a terrible experience. I wish I got my money back ,

Very poor quality of material used for construction for a 640k home

It took about a year to build my home. There were several set backs. My final walk through I noted a long list of incomplete items. The trim was not painted or caulked. A door was not painted, no door knob. The front door was not installed, the cabinets needed replaced, paint on brick, outside light fixture needed replaced, pendent lights needed install, paint on flooring, caulking on brick, etc. it has now been 2 months since closing and these have not been addressed. I have put in more warranty request that haven’t been addressed as well. I was told that the contractor has 6 closing in June then he will start working on his other houses. My house should be priority. I already paid for it and it’s incomplete. I’m very dissatisfied with Highland homes and their craftsmanship, and work ethic. ... More

What we envisioned vs what occurred was extremely disappointing and VERY UPSETTING. Our regional manager Jeff did try to do damage control, but it was too late. I’d be happy to speak further with your CEO’s Rod/Jean Ann or your QA team.

The quality is not there~ broken sinks, shower door Leakes, toilet leaked but was fixed, missing paint on walls paid over 1 million. not impressed.

It was one day short of a year from contract to closing. Many items were not completed at closing but I was in a bind. Nearly two months after closing most items are finally complete except for one item. After many promised appointments to complete that one I am still waiting.

We built with Highland because of their good reputation. We have had way too many issues. We have been residing in this home for about 2 months and we have had contractors here on multiple days for almost every week.

We have encountered numerous issues ranging from cosmetic to a leaking roof. On the bright side Highland has been quick to respond. But it has been disappointing that a new home can come with so many problems.

This is my first time purchasing a new build so I have nothing to compare my experiences to. This was a forced move for work so not a lot of time to shop around. Highland came highly recommend from my realtor. I looked at 2 Highland homes and on its face I really like them. Completed my "blue tape" walk through (took a vacation day and drove 10 hrs total) where I marked things that needed repaired before closing. I attempted to go over things with a fine toothed comb but it's a lot to look at in a short amount of time. I came back the next week for closing and was assured by the builder all of my stuff was repaired. I arrive at the house and noticed 90% of the things I marked were not fixed, though the blue tape was now removed. I was not a happy camper. What other things did they cover up? I made my concerns known and a few of the bosses arrived and began helping fix items. They assured me multiple people had walked through my house several times, but they must've walked through with their eyes closed to miss all the glaring issues. Things ranged from screws in the door hinges not screwed in, paint splatter all over the laminate flooring, trim not complete nor painted, grout all over the tile, laminate damaged, outlets not installed correctly, and sink leaking (though i was told it was fixed already, yet under the cabinet was still wet). Yes they are willing to fix it. Thankfully you get a bumper to bumper warranty for the first year because you'll need it. After a week of being in the home 5 tiles cracked in the bathroom and a warranty claim was made. I get angry every day knowing what I paid for the house and looking and the poor craftsmanship throughout the house. I will not be a repeat customer! ... More

Building a home is often a dream come true, filled with anticipation and excitement. Unfortunately, our experience with Highland Homes has been more of a cautionary tale, underscored by significant disappointment in both the quality of materials, craftsmanship and the responsiveness of their team. From the onset, we were drawn to Highland Homes by their seemingly stellar reputation and the promise of quality and engagement. However, as the project progressed, it became increasingly clear that our expectations would not be met and we were just a number in their budget. Our journey, which should have been paved with professionalism and precision, was instead marred by delays and oversight in the interest of profitability. One of the most glaring issues we are still facing is the incomplete state of our home nearly two months after closing. Please, DO NOT close on your home if it is not perfect to you! The moment you close, all urgency and responsiveness will dissipate. It is profoundly disheartening to report that major components, such as our front doors, are still missing despite having been chosen roughly one year ago in the design center. This oversight, one of dozens leaves a sour taste in what should be a celebratory new chapter in our lives. Attempts to resolve these issues have been met with a concerning lack of urgency and indifference. The responsiveness of the Highland Homes team has been less than satisfactory, leaving us in a state of limbo. The communication gaps and delayed responses have only exacerbated our frustrations, making it difficult to trust their commitment to customer satisfaction. While there are aspects of the home that reflect the quality Highland Homes is known for, these are overshadowed by the significant shortcomings in both delivery and service. It is unfortunate that our experience does not align with the high standards they advertise. Speaking with neighbors who had also chosen Highland Homes, our experience unfortunately appears to be the norm in Mustang Lakes. I wish we would have walked around the neighborhood and spoken to people before making such a significant commitment. In transparency, our realtor strongly favored Highland Homes but we have also learned that is likely due to their extremely generous realtor program rather than an unbiased recommendation. Highland Homes has the potential to deliver beautiful homes, our experience suggests that they fall short in key areas of execution and customer care. We hope that sharing our story will encourage the company to reflect on their processes and improve for the sake of future homeowners. For prospective buyers, we recommend proceeding with caution and a readiness to advocate strongly for your expectations. Continuous struggle through the whole process

Construction quality is not up to the mark. Not sure if they actually do those quality checks they say they so. You find several problems after their quality check. There were several items being worked on even after closing and have several issues still bein worked on which were reported. It also seems they treat customers differently, some get good attention and some don't. Cleanliness is not their thing... They feel some dirty items are ok when they hand over the home. They own lender company will put you on a higher interest rate even when you give counter offer you received from others. In my case the difference was 1 full percentage. They know you will still close with them for the 'incentive' and easiness of the process as they want you of delays if you go with other lender. ... More

Not the best experience when building a new house - our builder did not respond promptly to our issues/concerns, and he became defensive when we pointed out issues and/or concerns. We are moved in and continue to deal with issues that should have been resolved prior to closing.
