Don’t sign your closing docs until the builder fixes everything! It has taken me over 2 months to get everything fixed the right way and stay on the painters!! The builder has been very responsive about getting back to me but they are so busy building so many houses, their attention to detail from the contractors is not always good. We had to get the the patio and a portion of the driveway“floated” as there was acid/grease stains from the sub contractors, the painters (pretty sure the first painters were fired) had to come at least 5 times to fix things, and there were some finer details in the kitchen that were left unfinished/not painted. Bottom line, the house was rushed and not checked prior to the walkthrough and corporate would not move back the closing date. The materials/quality were good but attention to detail was lacking. ... Our experience with Highland Homes was positive from the sales side of the transaction. Both of the sales persons we worked with were attentive before, during, and after the sale. Hector continues to be a great resource, even a month after living in the house. The construction side of the transaction was nothing short of disappointing. The subcontractors used are subpar with no accountability or pride for craftsmanship. Every aspect of the house required rework other than the quartz countertops. Rework to a degree is expected; however, for a couple examples, brick was redone several times due to install quality issues, tile was installed and redone three times, wrong light and plumbing fixtures installed, the upstairs HVAC system was not working prior to closing, and one month after living in the home, is still not fixed. The list literally goes on. The issue with all of this is the construction manager was not identifying these issues himself due to lack of supervision of the project, and poor management of correcting the issues, resulting in things having to be redone several times before being acceptable. We sent weekly emails with lists of items that needed to be corrected because they were not being identified by the construction manager. Many of these issues would have been buried or would have caused many other issues if not addressed in real time. We ended up with a beautiful house because we managed the build. The Building Process was fun. There was a couple of things that scared me while we where building like beer cans and crack pipes that where found at my homesite that was kinda brushed off from the salesman but the construction manger did apologize for that. A couple of days before closing there was a huge water leak that flooded the front half of the house but was fixed. We have been in the home for two months now and still find issues that get addressed asap. The only issue I’m still having are the quality of my cabinets and still fighting to get them to repaint them or replace them.

Overall, good experience with sales person and loan officer and initial phase of home buying. Not so good with construction supervisor. Move in cleaning was promised but not done. Some repair work was notified before the closing but not done until notified again. Expected better customer service experience.

Thoroughly walk through every single nook and cranny of your house as the walk through they push so fast as if they know things are missed. I have mortar missing at the top of my brick that connects to the roof that the builder should have caught not me. I find it very difficult to understand how the house next to me doesn’t have that issue but mine does and they use the same contractors. They don’t do caulking after you sign off on the house. Electrical voltage issues with the doorbells are a known issue and they are aware but not giving grade a transformers to fix the issue where it seems to be a monthly problem and it’s only been two and half months in the home. Make sure the wood is nailed down properly if you have upstairs otherwise you’ll be screwed. Not sure why so many issues that I have to call out if the project manager and his boss should be doing a detailed walk through before you do as they inform you. I wanted to love this house and used this builder because I thought they were better at everything compared to my previous builder but sad to say my previous house seems like it was built with better quality materials. I shouldn’t be able to sit in the master toilet and hear in the room next to me let alone have a conversation with the person in that room that can be heard clearly through the walls. A crack found on my secondary bathroom tile and it was pointed out for replacement of the tile instead they sent someone to put some paint or material that’s cheap on it that came up within 3 weeks of it being put down. The flood lights don’t get them, they are cheap for the price you pay you can get better quality getting a ring one on your own. I have to hire pest control to get rid of wasps that got in my attic/ roof of the house due to missing mortar in the front and sides of my house that connects to the wood because it was left open which I had to seal the front however cannot do the rest of the house as it requires a large ladder so now after being here 2 and a half months I have to come out of pocket to fix. Do better if you claim to be America’s best builder. I hope you rectify the issues with the doorbells and the mortar missing around the top of the house. Outside of this the house looks nice however with small mortar missing around the top of the house I’m nervous what the house will look and feel like in 2-5 years. Proceed with caution and if you can make sure you and your realtor come out every week to do a detailed walk through. I did but didn’t have the realtor do it and pointed out what I could when I wasn’t rushed by them talking nice and educating but moving swiftly ends up in lack of love for what you pay an arm / leg for when it’s not fixed within the first year. How common is Jonathan for a name? Prior construction supervisor normalizes and minimizes complaints, (chipped bricks/defaced bricks are normal, there are plenty of leftover bricks, sub-contractors should have installed those "perfect ones", "normal for stairs to squeak" inspite of adding more screws on stair steps, guy who supposedly repaired the squeaks would pass for principal danseur as he carefully descended down the stairs to minimize the squeaks, he is a little bit stocky with matching attitude lol, he could only blame the framer for the squeaks, uneven wood stain application, rough door jams, uneven flashing, uneven sodding, construction manager does not check work of individual sub-contractors, how do you miss a window on the third bathroom (upstairs). Blame game among subcontractors, lackluster painting subcontractors (a lot smudge bricks that needed to be changed after closing. Construction manager prohibited use of flashlights to check on imperfections during walk throughs. buyer should be offered to upgrade sidings to brick or stucco instead of hardies, builder should have flexibility regarding orientation, right swing or left swing, driveway ended up directly across the opposite driveway. all showers areas should be recessed. there was a rush to close on a house despite multiplicity of items that needed to be done, closing was done and no window in the bathroom, how? Construction supervisor asked for 5 stars lol, his efforts are not worth for 5 stars, at the same he brags about his texas A&M school, and he got "promoted" or just transferred, woooow. don't worry this will not go online to make him famous. Same plan, same builder, different prices in different communities, different level of standard features in each community should be conveyed to multiple layers of subcontractors. building the same plan in the same community, different placement of vents/exhaust, not sure if the architect/engineer drew it differently lol, some items needed to be discussed during pre-construction meeting. so much inconvenience imposed on the buyer waiting for repairmen, are you gonna give me a pergola, epoxy garage floor, skylight or hotel stay for free while repair work is being done? ... We had bad experience with Highland builder. It seemed that they don’t care much about quality of workmanship. A lot of issues were found before and after moving in. Very slow progress when resolved an issue. Satisfaction still not meet for some issues such as lot of stains on driveways and garage, front and backyard weren’t level properly, damage and lack of grass for yards, outside walls and entryway has lot of pant and grout spills

I am writing to you as a very concerned homebuyer. We recently built a house in Jordan Ranch with Highland Homes. While we expected the home buying process to be difficult, we have had quite an unpleasant experience with Highland Homes. From the get-go, there has been significant miscommunication and quality control issues. There have been many emails sent to our salesperson, our contractor and our project manager regarding issues, most recently being the unfinished nature of the house even after closing. There were multiple issues that were to be resolved before closing but were not. All of them are in writing, either through text message or email. These examples can be provided if necessary. We were assured at closing that these items would be completed the following week as we had let our salesperson and contractor know that we would be moving in approximately 2 weeks from signing our closing documents. The following week came, and the items were not completed. The next week came, and even after reminding everyone that we would be moving in later that week, the items were still not completed. We have now been here for about 4 weeks and the items have not all been completed, and we are finding more problems around the house - door knobs not being tightened appropriately and falling off, paint splatter, light bulb covers falling from the ceiling are just to name a few. My wife is at the end of her pregnancy and instead of being able to unpack our boxes and get the house ready for the baby, she is babysitting tradesmen and cleaning up after them as they come and go. She stayed home for the whole day on Friday 6/7, 6/14, and 6/21. We have to put a hard stop on anymore major repairs on the house because we need to get the house prepared for the baby. This was discussed with our contractor. On Saturday 6/8, painters were supposed to arrive at 7am and finish their job. I woke up and waited for them. No one showed up, and we were not notified until 9-10am. Things happen but this is the most recent incident of disrespect for our time and frankly this has happened way too much. I then had to stay at home for multiple hours on Sunday 6/9 while the painter came to complete his work. I am extremely tired and frustrated with the poor communication, the lack of professionalism, and lack of attention to detail with our housing project. I do appreciate Chuck coming to our house on Thursday 6/6 to evaluate our concerns. But the fact that everything was not finished on Friday and the painters did not show up the following day are just icing on the cake. Because of the cost of our time, the inability to unpack our things, the lack of professionalism, and poor communication, I would like to be reimbursed by Highland Homes. With everything that has gone on throughout the build and most recently, I think that 2 months’ worth of mortgage payments is fair. I do not believe this is asking too much and am happy to chat about it further. At this time, I cannot recommend Highland Homes as a builder to anyone that inquires. Our house cost us over $725,000, but I do not feel that the craftsmanship, communication, and professionalism was up to the standards that Highland Homes claims to deliver. Craftsmanship is poor. Quality of build is poor. Contractors are sloppy, framing not straight or flush and bowed requiring heavy warranty work. Walls not fully painted even after final walk through. Flooring scratched. Highland homes full of excuses; example two cabinet drawers touch when fully opened and the response provided was “both drawers shouldn’t be open together”. Unacceptable excuses to get the job completed correctly.

overall supervision of the trades was weak. many mistakes were made and not caught or addressed in a timely manner resulting in very poor fixes made late in the process. overall fit and finish of the home is poor. home was started months later than expected and process took longer than it should have. we are still in the process of having items repaired/finished months after closing. I am being left to manage the trades. I would not recommend Highland homes to other buyers

My fourth home build - and my worst. The quality of the workmanship is very poor.

A LOT of lip service and passing the buck. Contractor blames the builder and visa versa. It’s been two months and still waiting for issues to be resolved. I firmly believe if my original sales person would not have left the WHOLE process would have been different and I would have had a positive experience. Mark leaving was a HUGE disservice to Highland homes. On a positive note, The people in the neighborhood are wonderful and I am sure I will be happier when I hire my own competent people to complete the work correctly and not do a Mickey Mouse job.

We had our walk through on 2 separate occasions and none of the items they were supposed to fix were complete. We lived in the house for a week before they replaced the broken dishwasher that we pointed out to them a month prior to close. We still have patchy paint on the walls and poor texture. My husband had to go all the way up the corporate chain to get any acknowledgement from the project manager.

Kept getting pressured to use preferred lender… My construction manager has came in and fixed the issues in a very timely manner but there’s just a lot of poor craftsmanship in the house and you would think buying a half a million home your cabinets wouldn’t be crooked you wouldn’t have holes in your closet your door would actually lock etc. etc.

Sellers provided false information along the process and would not honor their word despite have pictures, emails and texts to prove what they said. It is almost impossible to contact people local and at corporate to have issues addressed.

The house was perfect based on our first visit and finally we bought the house. Unfortunately, we signed the documents with many pending issues to fix and has been an mess to get everything done. At this moment (after 2 months we bought) we still have some issues pending to fix and I do not going to call you guys any more. I will fix everything from my pocket and I will send you the bill. I know you guys are not going to pay me but this is my house and investment.

I was so excited to build a Highland Home. Having lived in the birthplace of Highland Homes and seeing their style of home all over, it was a no brainer when I saw they built in the Houston area also. From start to finish, it was a headache. Now that I’m in the home, there’s issues every day and I’ve experienced bad attitudes from staff or no response at all. I am at the point of tip toeing around my house in fear of something else breaking and even worse anxiety when I think about guests coming and something falling apart of not operating. Overall the actual homebuying was low average--i.e. responsiveness to issues-after moving in -they seemed to not be able to control very loud music of their workers-this is ongoing and detracts from the overall experience-it also interferes with our ability to do our work at home.

Based on a previous Highland Home we owned we sought out their homes as we felt they were a reputable builder and they stood for quality. They have been responsive to replacing items damaged or broken since we moved in but overall it hasn't been a pleasant experience. During our pre closing walk throughs we pointed out damage to trim, lack of finish quality, fact that sandpaper had not been used on trim board, gaps between trim and flooring as well as the overall finish paint quality on painted cabinets and doors. Minimal effort was put into making it right and it was as if this was just the way it is, take it or leave it. Ultimately we took it as it was the location we wanted and the homes were selling quick. After moving in we hired a private painting crew to repaint the doors and trim to a more satisfactory condition spending another $9500 on trim paint repairs alone. ... More

Too many issues to write about. We definitely wouldn’t choose Highland Homes again.

I don't think our home should have been sold in its current state. All of the initial responders to our problems are gone, we are getting a slow response to repairs and the home is incomplete.

I assume because the rush, the home finishes are not god. ceiling shapes out of alignement, a lot doors handle loosed, some paint finishes in bad shaoe, paint drops in some places. The grass planted came wit a lot of herbs on it. Precesence of ants even into home detected few days after moving.

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... More

Going into buying a home, we were thrilled to choose Highland Homes. After the process we have gone through I would not recommend to anyone based on quality of workmanship and repetitive issues with work being incomplete or done poorly. Overall a very poor experience.
