The house was perfect based on our first visit and finally we bought the house. Unfortunately, we signed the documents with many pending issues to fix and has been an mess to get everything done. At this moment (after 2 months we bought) we still have some issues pending to fix and I do not going to call you guys any more. I will fix everything from my pocket and I will send you the bill. I know you guys are not going to pay me but this is my house and investment.

I was so excited to build a Highland Home. Having lived in the birthplace of Highland Homes and seeing their style of home all over, it was a no brainer when I saw they built in the Houston area also. From start to finish, it was a headache. Now that I’m in the home, there’s issues every day and I’ve experienced bad attitudes from staff or no response at all. I am at the point of tip toeing around my house in fear of something else breaking and even worse anxiety when I think about guests coming and something falling apart of not operating. Overall the actual homebuying was low average--i.e. responsiveness to issues-after moving in -they seemed to not be able to control very loud music of their workers-this is ongoing and detracts from the overall experience-it also interferes with our ability to do our work at home.

Based on a previous Highland Home we owned we sought out their homes as we felt they were a reputable builder and they stood for quality. They have been responsive to replacing items damaged or broken since we moved in but overall it hasn't been a pleasant experience. During our pre closing walk throughs we pointed out damage to trim, lack of finish quality, fact that sandpaper had not been used on trim board, gaps between trim and flooring as well as the overall finish paint quality on painted cabinets and doors. Minimal effort was put into making it right and it was as if this was just the way it is, take it or leave it. Ultimately we took it as it was the location we wanted and the homes were selling quick. After moving in we hired a private painting crew to repaint the doors and trim to a more satisfactory condition spending another $9500 on trim paint repairs alone. ... More

Too many issues to write about. We definitely wouldn’t choose Highland Homes again.

I don't think our home should have been sold in its current state. All of the initial responders to our problems are gone, we are getting a slow response to repairs and the home is incomplete.

I assume because the rush, the home finishes are not god. ceiling shapes out of alignement, a lot doors handle loosed, some paint finishes in bad shaoe, paint drops in some places. The grass planted came wit a lot of herbs on it. Precesence of ants even into home detected few days after moving.

Do not close in December. We were rushed to close for the end of the year even tho we new there was a lot to fix. These issues/workorders took months to complete. If i was to do it again, i would wait until the house was 100%. With the rush, there was a lot of poor craftsmanship. To the point we regret buying our family home.

If you’re considering purchasing a Highland Home, I hope you’re reading this review in time to change your mind. In fairness, we purchased our home in Sienna Plantation and our neighbors have similar complaints, but we know others who own Highland Homes in other communities and are satisfied with their purchase. From start to finish, but especially at the finish, Highland was less than impressive. From our salesman giving us incorrect information to our home not matching the elevation we agreed to and ending with very poor craftsmanship, this house is nothing but a headache. I wish I could include pictures to show you, but here are some examples: multiple fans wobbled upon move in and had to be serviced multiple times, there are paint drips and smudges everywhere, paint splatter dots all over the floors, caulk all over the place, many, many, many cracks and openings in the trim and floor including a hole in the wall that was concealed by a support leg for our counter top, tile floor was installed with too shallow grout and had to be redone, shower floor was installed with very inconsistent spacing between tiles and and had to be redone, instead of cutting small pieces of tile to fit into the corners of our master bath, the installer filled those corners with big swipes of grout, grout and black wash from the tile installation is smudged all over the white trim in the bathroom, tile around the tub is poorly installed, especially at the edges, cooktop was installed at an angle in the kitchen, Silestone was the promoted quartz material at the design center, but our actual brand was a no-name, despite our sale agreement specifically listing Silestone, our backyard is a sopping mess and finally, the most egregious: we have RIGIDCORE installed in the majority of our house and the entire floor needs to be replaced. This is a floating floor product and the installers did not evenly spread the float beneath the floor, causing pieces of the floor to “touch down” to the concrete below and gaps between the floor and trim. Additionally, they installed the boards too tight with no margin on the edges for expansion, so our entire floor has peaks and valleys; in the sunlight, it truly looks like it’s a wave. The corners of the boards are chipping across the entire floor because of this. Some of these issues were noted prior to move in, but some we discovered after living here for a few months. Highland fails to hold their trade partners to a high standard and the builders fail to recognize these issues independently; it’s up to you to note all these flaws. Highland promotes that they have exceptional customer service and I would agree that they are quick to respond to items outside of “warranty”, but then drag their feet to get the work done. I would personally rather have a house that doesn’t have these issues instead of spending an absorbent amount of time trying to get them fixed with “excellent customer service.” ... More

I thought I was buying a decent home until i moved in. The FIRST weekend, the plumbing backs up on us!. There was a stake in one of the trees that a genius landscaper stuck so deep into the ground that it cracked the cheap pipe that was used for the plumbing. To their credit, highland homes fixed it the same day. Week later, i discovered a roof leak due to a leaky roof jack. This was fixed a few days later. Now ive realized the ac installer that highland choses for my area is one of the worst rated hvac installers in Houston. They never tested the static pressure on the ac, the coils were full of sand, several vents were installed backwards, etc. I expected far better than this considering the price of the home . ... I canceled contract with Lennar to go with Highland Homes and I regretted it! Sales person was very aggressive and all over. Wasn't even there for closing or call to see how everything went. Not attention to detail nor concern with my needs. Always pushing my concern or additional work to outside source that is clearly a conflict of interest. Home quality is not there, I paid additional cost to update my kitchen cabinets and let's say the workmanship is terrible. Landscaping work is terrible! Have ask them to repair and still no change after three months.

Paint is everywhere, cracked tiles in the bathroom that still haven't been fixed. Leaking water line that they haven't come back to fix either. Will not buy another home from them.

Be sure to summarize every communication in writing point by point after each meeting as to your understanding and have them respond their agreement. Their people appear to forget easily. Not all their contractors are the best. Don't rely on their inspectors. Hire your own. We did like the floorplan and the location but we came close to walking away from the contract a few times.

Just move in around 90 days and I changed 8 of ceiling light!!! Painting is bad, we just find out inside and bottom of kitchen cabinet there a lot of exposing nails. The floor of 3 out of 5 rooms are not evenly...hopefully that’s all.

For the price paid, the builder should hire painters and workers who will pay more attention to details. The materials put into the home are great, but the way in which it was thrown together is a hug disappointment. Even after the initial and final walk they, you mark and it seems the workers shake their head as though they will correct the issues and I can back to find the same things undone.

In less than a month after moving in some items failed working and even after reporting to the warranty manager no body came to fix it. Highlands needs to improve on how to handle their customers complains.

We recently moved to a brand new valuable home with excitement but turned out to be a miserable life living inside the house from day 1. We are seeing many mice inside the brand new home from day 1. I wish Highland homes should have informed me regarding mice issue in the subdivision to give me a choice to consider to by a house or look somewhere else. If I was informed by Highland homes prior to buying a house regarding mice concern in the subdivision then I would have consider not to by this particular house but look for a house in different area. Going into buying a home, we were thrilled to choose Highland Homes. After the process we have gone through I would not recommend to anyone based on quality of workmanship and repetitive issues with work being incomplete or done poorly. Overall a very poor experience.

Closed on home with laundry list of items to be completed 60 plus days in home and still not completed nor a timeline to be completed.

Frustrating process with the building of our house.The lack of supervision during the construction stage generated unnecessary repairs and too many follow up actions after the closing.

It wasn’t a pleasant experience we were told constantly about the highland touch we came every 2 weeks to see progress and any issues. We sent pictures emails alot of issues weren’t addressed properly. When we closed we still had several issues and we were told they’d be taken care of 4 months later still all issues not resolved we were the last house painted by the crew that was fired. In the last 4 months we have had a multitude of contractors in and out of our home ( if they show up ) Still going through issues. Although highland may have a stunning plot plan the management of contractor craftsmanship and quality is severely lacking. Aside from their plot plan there is absolutely no difference in this builder from any other cookie cutter neighborhood home. It’s clear to see that each contractor has less respect for the home than the last. Spending half a million dollars on a home should yield more quality and excitement when moving in. Our blue tape walk items are still outstanding 2+ months later. The longer we live in the home the more we are blown away by lack of craftsmanship, quality and the amount of corners cut to “complete” the home. You should NOT have to deep clean construction mess after closing as the homeowner nor should you have to waste your time with the quick patch/bandaid jobs for items that have no reason to be left as outstanding. Closed the house with a lot of defects. They promised to fix but take them forever.

Adam was very good and helpful during buying process. We loved the location of house, however, finishing and detailing is not good. We bought a house in end of October and they installed wrong bathroom wall tiles. Zack has been helping for construction management. We tole him that this is not the tile that we ordered. After that we did follow up 4 to 5 times and every time he would say he would find out and then never got back to us. We still don’t have correct tile in our master bathroom for which we already paid. Our one of bathroom cabinet is still needs to be changed.

I do not know if I have enough room. 1. Fireplace was not put in correctly and whoever put it in bent some things so it looked like it was in correctly. 2. Tile is cracked and covered up with paint to look as if not cracked. 3. Side of house was not finished and had a hole in it (we had to fix it) 4 We paid for an extended patio (16,000$) and they did not brick in the back! It looks so cheap it is embarrassing to have people over. 5. Light fixture in entrance looked like the one we ordered but it was a much smaller version and have yet to get the one we ordered (was this done on purpose thinking we would not see the difference?) 6. Guttering in the back of the house...well there is none and when it rains, the rain makes a big hole in the yard. 7. The black fireplace tile was done incorrectly and it is off center. 8. Paint missing on the inside and outside of the house and no one will give us the name of the paint so we can get it and fix it ourselves. 9. No one will give us a manual and you cannot find one online to "fix" our air conditioner/heater so that we might adjust the temperature. I want to add that Don and Linda are great... ... More
