From the sticker in our attic window, our warped stairs, cracked cabinets and leaking backdoor. We feel overwhelmed with the large and small issues. I'm disappointed with the quality in the carpet and bath/shower combo. Our grass in the back yard is muddy an uneven. The quality of our home did not meet the value of what I paid for the home. Carpet with no padding is coming up on the stairs, our cabinets still have a spit, what we were showed in demo to our $3000+ tub shower combo was extremely misrepresented. KBHome will build you a decent home quickly. Everything was completed to plan and order, albeit with slightly unacceptable workmanship and small issues. They are extremely slow to resolve issues after closing (if they resolve them at all) so I do recommend you set yourself up for success by not closing until all major things are fixed. I say major things because there will always be small issues with any home builder and thats acceptable. Price is expensive but they give you a lot of options. For the price, however, I would've expected at least a minimum amount of attention to detail. Sales staff is nice but won't communicate quickly and aren't the most knowledgable. I can recommend KBHomes but I must insist you at least get a quote from another lender and you higher an outside home inspector. KBHome likes to offer a lot of money off if you close through their lender (for me they offered $5000 off at closing) but as soon as I went to another lender I realized it wasn't any cheaper because they charged me almost $5000 more in other areas such as "paperwork processing" to make up for the discount. Overall buying a KB Home house has been good, selecting the plot and model was easy. Then came the selections at the home studio, it was ok, there were some selections that they offered and some they did not offer but then when the building process began those items that were offered were taken away with the explanation of "Oh we don't offer that at that location/anymore ect." The items that the home studio said were not available I have seen on several of the other homes, it seems like no one know what was supposed to be offered. Then there were changes made some were beneficial others annoying. The build, you can tell that the builder(s) and contractors rushed through some areas more than others the quality shows and its little simple things. On a daily basis we continue to find things that were not finished or rigged to look finished. Some warranty things have been taken care of however the contractors show up do have the work leave then come out another day do a little work here and there, so you have to take time off work and rearrange your schedule for things that should have been taken care of from the start. Expected better response to issues in regards to the home when we received keys. But once you get your keys to your home it’s up to the home buyer to constantly be on it, or your issues will be forgotten.

I love my home. The location was the reason I purchased the home. I have been disappointed with repairs. Most are minor fixes yet are still not completed and I have been in my home for over 60 days. I am not pleased with the quality of my air conditioning in my home. It is suppose to energy friendly and well insulated. Which it is but at a cost of 2 bedrooms being hotter then the rest of the house. The air conditioning company telling me this is normal? They need to work on the function of the home. It looks pretty but it also needs to function. You need to put the toilet paper holder in spot you can reach. The gas line is at my bedroom window, who is going to grill in front of their bedroom window? No place for trash cans? You have to drag through a ton of stones and it is hard on feet/back. Paint indoors is flat, anything touches it and it leaves a mark. They offer a free touch-up but the guy never calls you back, so I gave up and did it myself. I am not that happy. ... More

We are now in warranty and have had a major plumbing leak that we've already cut thru walls and have fans in our house for a week, not happy. This was my first home building and buying experience and I am slightly disappointed. I chose to go with KB home because they promised and strive for "great customer satisfaction" and portrayed their company as being highly attentive to their home owners. We love our home but there are many flaws. I would describe our home as "messy." When doing our walk throughs with the construction manager we pointed out specific things that were not right or that needed to be corrected and we were promised everything would be fixed and perfect before we moved in. Well that was not the case because there is a multitude of areas in our home that need to be fixed. Secondly, we were promised a 10 day follow up after move in and we did not receive any acknowledgement or "check in" until a month and a half after moving in. I have been living here for 2 months now and still have not had any of the problems in my home fixed or had any further follow up. The only good experience we had was in the studio. We had a great representative that walked us through each and every aspect. It is a very over whelming experience and she made it very easy. The only misleading part is picking out the exterior colors of the house. They give you a sheet with a few different swatches laid out and expect you to pick your house color from that. I would recommend having a physical picture of the house painted in each color scheme to help the buyer have a better idea of what their house will look like. We were reluctant to build with KB based on others' experiences we'd heard about, but in a tight housing market, we decided that it was the easiest way to get a house in the location we wanted for a reasonable price. The sales experience was fine. The design studio process was unnecessarily confusing and time-consuming because they use software from the 1990s (I'm talking green type on a black screen) that makes it take forever for the consultant to give you the price for something and ultimately build the order. Our first consultant made several key errors. We complained about this and the manager did our final appointment (via Google hangout due to COVID). She was great, but after our home was in the build process I really wish she (or someone) had walked us through the lighting locations. We ended up with a lot less overhead lighting than we would have chosen if we knew how few lights they would provide. The build process itself was not well-supervised. Subcontractors installed broken cabinets and then the construction manager had them patched up later. Our window wells are uneven so our blinds fit well at the top of the window but not at the middle or bottom. This is a framing error. I could go on, but basically anything we didn't upgrade was inferior and even some of the stuff we did upgrade wasn't the quality I would have chosen. We've found a lot of mistakes in the couple months we've lived here. Nothing we can't either fix or live with. Not sure another Austin-area builder would have done a better job as they all use the low bidder subcontractors. Thankfully my husband is super handy. The entire process from start to finish took about 11 months from start to finish. At first it was very exciting chosing our lot and visiting the design center. But because of covid it turned into a horrible wait. We had multiple delays because of covid 19 and it made for a bad experience. I feel like the initial value that was proposed and what I actually got was kind of a bait and switch. A lot of the things that I was told were standard were not and I ended up having to pay a lot of money out of pocket to get things I thought I was already getting. Like lighting in every room and walls in specific places. The quality of the build is so so. I'm still having a lot of warranty issues where things were broken when I moved in and I have been in the house for 2 months and they still have not been fixed. The build team was excellent to work with and they have been trying their best to help me fix some of the reoccurring problems but you can tell they have better things to worry about and are very busy. If I had to pick one thing that I would like people to know it would be to be careful. The model has optional upgrades that aren't listed and aren't standard. They won't tell you about them till it's to late and you are already in the design center and your only choice is to pay for them or miss out on things that are kind of important. ... More
