Make sure to get a reputable home inspector before buying. Be willing to walk a way if the price you’re willing to pay is denied. Also it’s a good idea to buy a book that tells you what to look for and what to be aware of before buying a home.

Terrible wear and tear; unresponsive warranty service

My home was delivered to me with substantial wear and tear, and KB insists that things are normal and will not fix all problems before closing. Some issues are just impossible to fix after you've moved in. They also seemed to have used low quality materials--I have windows that do not block sound at all, and a super loud ventilation fan system. To make things worse, my KB Home customer service rep is unresponsive, and does not answer email for weeks. This has been a frustrating experience for me.

Very bad on communication. They almost never get back with you on anything. We closed two months ago an still cant get paint and things fixed that they promised would be done if we closed. They want you in so that they don't have to do any more work.

Design center experience was very good, but the building process was the opposite. We had 4 different project managers due to them moving to different communities, and at one time our house didn't have anyone work on it for 6 weeks. At a few different times, the PM actually lied to us (which was confirmed). It's been 5 weeks since we closed, and there are a ton of punch list/warranty items that are now being worked on, but it's progress. The house is becoming what we hoped for, but getting here was tough.

this is my first purchase from KB Home. the quality is average and the price is above average. Understood that the overall house-buying market in the bay area is crazy so I don't blame this on KB home. Cannot review on trustworthiness and responsiveness since I've just moved in for couple of days. I'm giving 3/5 just to be able to submit the result.

Craftsmanship, damaged cabinets, caulking, damaged drywall, damaged wall trim, unfinished garage was agreed on but the drywall was damaged. Planks on the brand new fence were popping off the rails. I spent time and money repairing items in the a brand new house I paid over 330 thousand for. I didnt expect this from a brand new home, maybe I expected more. We are going on 2 months in the house and I cant tell you how many work orders were put in for repairs on top of the work I put in. I also had the sprinkler system break and now I have a 2000 dollar water bill KB is trying to deal with. ...

I am not happy with any of the process... noises from plumbing above my office, water settling in the yard, tiny little plants in the front yards, as well as its been 2 months and our sidewalk still has huge cracks with no indication when it will be fixed..the drywall, when the light hits it has wave shadows.....as well as my garage door was so noisy If I hadn't caught some of this it would have just been left with very little quality assurance.

Our home was not clean when we moved in, and there were multiple things that needed repair. There was construction debris thrown on top of our kitchen cabinets, trash in the yard, saw dust coating the backs of all our doors and trim, drywall dust stuck to all the window frames, paint on the floors and the carpet, gobs of caulking dripping out of the window panes and the list goes on and on. We had our house mold tested before drywall was installed, and sure enough, there was mold in half a dozen places on the framing. KB was great about having a reputable company remediate all the mold. ...

They were not super responsive after the contract was signed. Also, once the home closed, the responsiveness dropped to 0. There was no guidance on whom to contact in case of unforseen situations. However, it's been just a few months since the home was ready. Let's see how things go as the home ages.

The cement in my driveway and sidewalk in front of my house did not cure property. It is gray and speckled when every house on the block and around the corner is white. It’s not right.

The appliances and toilets are shoddy, the cheapest that they could put in. Toilets have to be flushed twice, Plumber came out and said it was the cheapest model of toilet. Bad water pressure. Back wall is 6 feet tall outside, but we can see into each others houses. Going to have to pay to have 2 more rows added (after HOA approval). Should of been added by KB Homes, since there is no privacy and considering we had to pay $5,000 more for our lot location. The garage was set up too high and there was a sharp incline, not able to get cars into the garage. That since has been fixed, but ...
