The build took quite awhile, shortages, labor etc. Overall my project manager kept me up to date with pictures and progress reports weekly. From design to move was about 15 months. I am very satisfied with the build. I think Shea uses quality products and good workmanship.

Poor quality work on things like paint, cabinets, doors, flooring. In general workers don't seem to care and things are done poorly. Very poor communication from the construction team, and after closing we have long list of issues that we have no communication about, and have not gotten addressed.

I love the layout of my new home. Some materials are of high quality, however I have had problems with every single trade. I found electrical that was not to code and hazardous when using my own electrician to install ceiling fans. The LVP flooring was very poorly installed with multiple gaps. The painters were horrific and got paint on cabinets, towel bars, flooring, all of the light switches… Many walls did not receive two coats of paint. I hired my own painters to re-paint. From the first visit with the sales manager to the walk through with the specialist the experience was exceptional. All aspects of the purchase were of the highest quality. All people interacted with were super professional making sure at all times that we were completely aware of progress. I would highly recommend the Shea experience to any potential buyers.

I would not recommend Shea.

After moving in, we had questions and requests for the Shea representatives. Jessica, Josalyn and Froy responded promptly and followed up to see that everything was handled appropriately! We appreciate the quality of the home, really just a couple of very minor items were needed after move in. We are comparing it to another new home we recently purchased where we had corrective work being done for months after we moved in. So the Shea home really is superior to other builders.

Jason when out of his way to answer questions, guide us on issues we were having and making us feel comfortable about decisions. The area that needs work is the design center. Our designer did not offer alternatives or give suggestions or give the pros and cons of various materials. When it came to designing the lighting and placement of outlets etc., she was no help at all. There are many things I would have done differently if I had known there was a choice.

Rob promised me to replace the dented range hood on 11/21. It is still not done as of today. There are also other smaller issues never addressed since closing.

So, I wish my house was the exception, but unfortunately it is the rule. My whole block has poor quality finishes and missing items. For example, trade crew installed a tankless water system without a pump. Didn’t figure this out until we complained about not having hot water after the water was running for just under 5 minutes. We and others have extensive lists of things that need to be fixed. I understand that all new construction has some issues, but our lists seem to be much more extensive than is reasonable. Even a neighbor, who is a third time Shea customer, is equally disappointed in the quality of the finish work in the new homes that Shea is currently building. ... More

Seems like the construction was rushed to facilitate closing . Surprising lack of attention to detail with the finishing work ,door hanging etc . Preliminary punch list is significant after just one months occupancy . Construction crews working in the area make transit challenging and in some instances dangerous . We were told not to visit the area as it was a dangerous construction site ... yet closings were required and now residents are living in the same construction site . This demonstrates an apparent lack of concern about the level of enjoyment and safety of the residents post closing . I've said it before and I'll ask again - send a rep and we can chat further . ... We are so happy!

The house quality was good. Also, the builder's representative whose name was Randy was very responsible. He was great! But we were not happy for the delay to build the house. It delayed almost half year for completion to lead to our mortgage loan rate to be higher, which means that we need to pay more money for the mortgage loan.

Overall, we love our new home. Quality of workmanship is great, but for the Barbosa cabinets are of poor quality, installation and workmanship!! I’m very disappointed to say the least. Our quartz island top is also from Barbosa as well. The fabrication and installation is quite questionable when it comes to matching the two pieces. The colors don’t even match!! There are numerous chips, scratches, filler with bluff marks and black lines on the kitchen island, counters as well as in the laundry room. Overall, we are happy with construction quality and Sheas’ one month warranty check up.

This is our fifth new home and the workmanship is the worst. Multiple cabinets still need to be replaced as they are warped, cracked or split and the crown molding was not installed. Some flooring needs to be replaced, some plaster is poorly done or not done at all and until yesterday, there was blue tape everywhere to indicate poorly painted, or unpainted, areas. We are still missing two appliances, a shower curtain rod, grab bars for the showers, and a toe kick under a cabinet. The designer should be fired as there are no drawers in two bathrooms, one of which is the master bath with two sinks, the shower stalls should be larger, medicine cabinets should have adjustable shelves, and the pantry should be bigger. The designer should consider using large drawers in the kitchen instead of cabinets with pullout bottom shelves with small, hard to reach shelves above the pullouts. As this is a 55+ community, doors should be a little wider to easily accommodate the use of walkers and wheelchairs. ... More

Make sure customers don’t order the washer and dryer set. It’s a joke doesn’t work wrong product

I'll start by saying if I knew what I know now, I'd have gone with a different builder. The workmanship and quality of Shea Homes product (specifically) my home is complete garbage. For what the house cost, anyone in their right mine would expect a better product. From poor paint job, floor/tile completion, misaligned doors and the list goes on. Each day I'm in this house, I find more issues of poor craftsmanship and rush job. What makes it frustrating is the fact there were zero compromises from the builder in regards to making minor changes during the building process but here I am waiting weeks for them to fix items that should have been done from day one. The finance lady acted like she couldn't care less if we went with a different financial institution, which actually should have gave me a clue on what I was getting into. Bottom line is, other than the sales rep, the rest of the experience has been well below average. Tired of taking off work to get crap fixed. Which brings me back to my beginning sentence, if I knew what I know now, I would have sprinted away from Shea. But lesson learned! Just my experience. ... More

House was not ready when we moved in. Quality was not good as our previous Shea home. This situation is understandable because of the economic conditions during building. But we bought a life style rather than just a house. We love it

We had a great experience from the beginning when we met Alan. He was courteous, professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. He was always available to answer any questions throughout the process. We are also very pleased with the warranty dept in making sure everything was done to our satisfaction. We give kudos to Joel and Alexis for their hard work. I definitely recommend Shea homes for their beautiful custom homes and customer service.

Staff has been responsive and timely in fixing issues.

Shea did a great job of overpromising and under delivering. I’ve asked for 10 to 15 items to be fixed. A couple have been and haven’t heard from anybody in three weeks. Pretty pathetic.

Overall a good experience. Warranty issues and communication could improve.

It’s been 3 month since closing and we are still waiting on some things to get fixed. Painters specifically never show up between the time period they tell you to wait.

Excellent service and we are happy with our home.

The home itself is good. The 1-3-5-11 check-in plan is a good idea and has been helpful. Tami who helps with the move-in process and the periodic check-up is fantastic as is Eddie (maybe Freddie, sorry) who seems to be one of the lead contractors. They are both amazingly responsive and seem to truly care. Kveta from the design studio was very helpful and kind as well. We never felt rushed. She listened to our wants and needs and helped us to come up with a design that looked great and functionally has been fantastic as well. She allowed us to maximize our upgrade budget and we are very happy. She communicated with us throughout the process. We even had a question after moving in that she helped to answer for us. What was not good was the community representative, Kathy, and unfortunately, she is the one that we had the most contact with. I would not recommend her and wish there had been another representative we could have switched to (if this had been an opportunity, I would have switched after the first or second interaction). She walked us through the community on our initial visit. As someone who is trying to sell me on something and trying to represent a large brand and a community, I would’ve expected her to be somewhat upbeat and pleasant (not over the top, just a little bit, even a smile). She was not. There was no enthusiasm or excitement. If the market wasn’t as crazy as it was at the time, she would not have had a sale through us. I hope that Shea does not rest on the same laurels, that they can do and act however they want because the housing market is competitive. Lack of excitement is not enough of a reason for me to write a negative review about a person or company and as you will read, this was the least negative thing about the experience. She was very unresponsive regardless of the request, but if she sent something to us, expected a return e-mail within the day. For example, I had to e-mail her multiple times the month prior to moving in. I wanted to get the information for the utilities I would need to setup, I wanted to know when I should start doing all of that as well. I never got a response even after multiple e-mails. She eventually e-mailed my wife separately and mentioned that we would get that information closer to the move-in date and not to set anything up for the time being. She could have sent that simple e-mail to me after the first time. Instead, I now have the impression that she either doesn’t care, doesn’t know, or doesn’t care enough to find out the answer for me. When the roles were reversed and she would e-mail us with requests we always attempted to respond ASAP and send her whatever she requested. I truly believe that in nearly every case we responded to her with what she needed within the same business day. If we didn’t have what she needed, we explained how and when we would get it for her. The one time we did not respond to her within 24 hours regarding a question that was actually directed at our financial institution, she sent a follow-up e-mail with our loan officer attached saying that the failure to respond had meant that we were in default or about to be placed immediately into default. This was less than 48 hours after the first e-mail. While I understand there was information she needed to get from us, and mind you this was one or two months prior to move-in not our initial loan info/pre-approval or anything like that, threatening us with default after not immediately responding to one e-mail is absolutely inappropriate and unprofessional. We had made all of our payments/deposits on the first day it was available to do so. A little bit of good faith would’ve been appreciated before jumping the gun and going to such drastic measures. One of my largest concerns was when there was actually a potentially emergent situation at the home prior to move-in. We had a small leak in our house literally the week before moving in. The leak was noted on a Wednesday or Thursday, we were not notified until Saturday (mind you our move-in date was the following Friday). Why we were not notified immediately is still beyond me and I still never received a satisfactory answer. When we were contacted by Kathy she was exceptionally brief on the phone. She gave little to no details and told us to meet her at the house the following day. We were left with the impression that our entire home was flooded and we'd have a delayed move in date. We were told we should contact our apartment complex ASAP to try and revoke our written move out date and to try to extend our lease. Fortunately, when we did arrive to the home, the leak was relatively small and had nearly been resolved at that point. There was a good plan in place from the construction crew in terms of identifying the leak, checking adjacent piping, drying drywall, and checking additional moisture levels. The crew had been actively working on the problem since its onset. Had Kathy, spoken with any of them, I feel that she could have communicated that information over the phone and at least taken some of our worry away. Instead, she left us confused, scared, and unsure of what to do. After talking with fellow neighbors, we understand that at least two other homes in our motorcourt also suffered leaks prior to move-in. The way Kathy interacted with them was, from what I am told, was exactly the same and some of them had significantly worse leaks. Honestly, if there were only very limited interactions with Kathy, I would not have written this review. However, as she is the community representative and main point of contact throughout the whole process I felt this information to be pertinent. I like my home and community thus far, it’s just too bad that Kathy put such a damper on the whole process. As of now, I would buy from Shea again. But, if Kathy were the only community representative where I was looking, that would cause me to pass solely because of her involvement. ... More
