The neighborhood is bisected by Route 46 and Interstate 80. It is a 10.5 square miles township that serves as home to over 7,000 people. Fairfield Township is conveniently and centrally located, allowing easy access to shopping, Newark Airport, public transportation, and major highways. As of 2010, there were 7,466 residents in this Township, reflecting a 5.7% increase from the 2000 census. Fairfield Township is the least densely populated neighborhood in Essex County. The Township is located a short walk to Fairfield School District, a highly rated community school serving pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade learners. As of 2012, Fairfield School District had 53 classrooms and an enrolment of 689 students. New Jersey Department of Education classifies this school as a District Factor Group, the country’s third-highest grading. Schools that fall under this category are grouped based on common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. Upon reaching twelve grade, students join the Essex Regional School District, a regional school serving Roseland, North Caldwell, Fairfield, and Essex Fells.
