Only about nine miles northwest of Boston, Belmont is one of the city’s closer-in suburbs. Known as the “Town of Homes,” Belmont is primarily a residential area and sits on one of Boston’s commuter rail lines.

There are plenty of amenities to go around, including the Beaver Brook Reservation, shops, movie theaters and the Belmont Country Club. You can also take a family stroll through Mass Audubon’s Habitat Education Center and Wildlife Sanctuary.

5. Wellesley
