It is difficult to keep lawns lush during droughts, most homeowners don’t have unlimited water budgets. The good news: simple strategies can keep your yard green while cutting costs.

Why it matters: Water is getting more expensive and scarce. Smarter use saves you money and protects a vital resource.

Go Native or Xeriscape

  • Choose plants that naturally thrive in your region.

  • Xeriscaping doesn’t mean “all rocks.” It’s about designing landscapes that use less water while still looking vibrant.

Water Smarter

  • Water early (4–10 a.m.) to reduce evaporation.

  • Switch to drip irrigation – delivers water directly to roots, avoids waste, and gives plants a deep soak.

Fix Leaks and Adjust Sprinklers

  • Leaks = money down the drain.

  • Ensure sprinklers hit plants, not sidewalks.

Capture Rainwater

  • Use barrels or catchment systems to collect runoff from roofs and gutters.

  • Permeable pavers help water soak into the soil and filter impurities.

Bottom line: A water-wise yard is good for your wallet, your plants, and the planet. Small changes add up to big savings.
