Community celebrations and Veterans Day go hand-in-hand, from smaller-scale golf-cart parades to patriotic displays to larger, more official ceremonies. It’s a special, meaningful way for neighbors to connect.
In many neighborhoods across the country, appreciation for veterans extends well beyond November 11, with ongoing home building and fundraising initiatives, special incentives for active-duty military and veterans from builders, and in-community memorials.
Here are four communities that go the extra mile to honor veterans, along with available new homes in each area.
Veterans Memorial Plaza
Sun City Texas, Georgetown, Texas
At Sun City Texas, a master-planned community located in Georgetown, north of Austin, veterans are honored year-round through a dedicated memorial plaza, community ceremonies and resident-led initiatives.
At the center of the community is Veterans Memorial Plaza, an outdoor memorial with a central monument, military service flags, and thousands of engraved bricks recognizing individual veterans and their service, giving the community a truly personalized way to show their appreciation.
The plaza is especially meaningful because it was inspired by a resident who wanted to honor local veterans, and the community responded with widespread support to bring the memorial to life. The plaza also serves as a gathering place for annual Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Patriot Day ceremonies, as well as other events throughout the year.

Fly the Flag
Fulton Home Communities, Metro Phoenix Area, Arizona
Fulton Homes has been running a Fly the Flag campaign since 2014 in the metro Phoenix area. From Labor Day through to Veterans Day, house hunters are invited to stop by sales offices in various Fulton Homes communities, and for a $10 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, they will receive a full-size American flag. Additionally, Fulton Homes will match each donation.
The initiative raises funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, a national program that aids injured veterans and their families. It also creates a visible show of support throughout Fulton Homes communities, as homeowners fly the red, white, and blue in the weeks leading up to Veterans Day.

The Villages, Florida
Located in Central Florida, northwest of Orlando, the Villages is an established master-planned community that celebrates veterans in some unique ways, including a softball tournament, ceremonies, concerts, and a boat cruise.
Additionally, the community runs a Building Homes for Heroes program, where students from the Village Charter School’s High School Construction Management Academy gain hands-on experience by building a home from framing to finishing. After completion, the mortgage-free homes are given to injured vets.

The event lawn at the hub of this community becomes a Field of Honor, with hundreds of flags displaying the names of veterans or active-duty military, their branch of service, and years served. Community members are invited to submit names of friends and loved ones currently serving or who have served in the military.
There is a pancake breakfast on Veterans Day, free for veterans, and for non-veterans, a $5 donation is requested, with proceeds going to the Association of the United States Army.
