Find your new home in the cheery town of Clinton, Maryland. Even though this village is technically a census designated place that doesn't stop the locals from creating a friendly and welcoming community. Just a quick 15 mile drive to the thrills of Washington DC, you'll find that many Clinton residents work and play in DC, but prefer the simple lifestyle they lead in Clinton.
Local festivals are a fun way to spend the weekends here in Clinton and Prince George's County is able to add several fun events to the list as well. Wafting through the whole community are the smells of brisket, sausage, and an assortment of fried foods as self-made cooks from all over the DC Metro fire up their grills to compete in the Beltway BBQ each year. Stuffing yourself silly is encouraged. The Festival of Lights is the perfect winter holiday excursion. Just pack up your friends and family in the minivan and take the scenic drive through the millions of twinkling lights and holiday exhibits.
For the outdoorsy Clinton natives, Cosca Regional Park is a mecca for camping, boating, and picnicking. With 690 acres of wildlife and nature to explore Cosca Regional Park is the perfect excuse to get in touch with your inner most being. The Pinewood Park is another great spot where you can find games of horseshoes, and beach volleyball in full swing.
The history of Clinton holds a significant blemish against its name, or rather its former name. This area used to be referred to as Surrattsville for the local tavern owned by Mary Surratt at the town crossroads. Mary Suratt was also the owner of another inn in Washington DC where an assassin held his weapons before fatally wounding one of America's most beloved Presidents. If you're still in dark as to what I'm referring to, I'll let you in on the conspiracy. Mary Surratt was sentenced to death for her involvement with John Wilkes Booth and the plot to assassinate President Lincoln. An extremely sad day for America and a day that Clinton most likely won't forget. The Surratt House still stands, but as a Museum dedicated to the events surrounding the assassination of President Lincoln. Be sure to check it out when you get a chance.
