Coraopolis is a borough located along the Ohio River west of Pittsburg. It is known for its brick streets, historic downtown and large striking houses. Besides the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, one of its most distinguishing features is the Coraopolis Railroad Station which established electric railways to Neville Island and to McKees Rocks by bridges. The boom of the steel industry was the driving force behind the railroads, railways and bridges. It created the perfect setting for intriguing stories that set this small city apart from others.
The modern Coraopolis Bridge connects Coraopolis to Neville Island. However, in 1995 the Coraopolis Bridge replaced the historic Six Street Bridge. This bridge was actually disassembled from another location and transported by floating along the river. The unique story of this bridge is just one reason why The American Bridge Company is headquartered here. This story also describes the charm of Coraopolis today. Historic buildings mixed with modern shops are home to over 300 businesses here. Some of them include the Coraopolis municipal building, Coraopolis Armory and the Coraopolis Memorial Library. The Dependable Drive-In movie theatre is a family favorite, as well as the local Italian landmark known for its homemade meals, Segneri's Italian Restaurant. Another popular place to eat is Wings Suds and Spuds. They have the best happy hour in town and great grill entrees. If you are in the mood to splurge, visit the HyeHolde. Walk along the stone paths before dinner to admire the gardens and building structure created from old barns. You will enjoy food that is locally grown and cooked with a French flair as you sit by a fireplace. A meal here is one of a kind!
Coraopolis also has many recreational opportunities as well. Besides the many parks there are luxurious golf courses as well. If you feel like a winner, go to the Championship Golf Course. Join Montour Heights Country Club for a fun but challenging course, and Scally's Golf Center attracts golfers of all ages. Another recreational activity that is becoming more popular is yoga. Three Rivers Yoga Institute will help you center yourself and find serenity.
