Moving to Killeen is a move that makes sense for your pocketbook. This town seems to have entirely dodged the recession, thanks to an evergreen economy, powered by Fort Hood, the largest military base in the U.S. On top of that, it's also affordable. That large, beautiful new home you've always wanted for your family is finally within reach. The almighty dollar might be why people come to Killeen. But that's not the only reason to move here. The other is that this town offers a fantastic quality-of-life for a young family in the Texas Hill Country. Killeen is perfect for day trips to Austin, San Antonio, Temple, and Copperas Cove-- but it has none of the drawbacks of life in a bigger city. So with that logic, how can you go wrong? Killeen will make a great home for years to come.
Perhaps the most popular attraction in the Killeen area is Lake Belton. Like much of Killeen, it was created by the Army. But civilians can enjoy it too. If you love the outdoors, this will be one of your favorite areas in your new home town. In a city this close to a lake, you can go fishing and boating minutes away from your front door--no long haul here. If you're less of a fisherman and more of a golfer, Killeen has something for you too. The Stonetree Golf Club is a great place to practice your game, with friends or co-workers. With so much Texas sunshine year-round, it's always a great day to get out and do something active. If you're a hiker or biker, it may be a little harder to find well-maintained trails for your outdoor hobby. However, in Killeen you won't be far from Colorado Bend State Park and Bastrop State Park, both excellent spots to see the beauty of the Texas hill country.
Got kids? So do most of your neighbors. The fact is, life in Killeen revolves around the military, but it also centers on kids. You can build memories with your children in this town. Here, there are so many kid-friendly places it'll make your head spin. This includes attractions like the Texas Thunder Speedway, where you and your family can experience the thrill of derby racing, or take classes so you can learn to do it yourself. It's true: Texas is hot. Luckily, with the Killeen Family Aquatics Center, the Lions Junction Family Waterpark, and the Summer Fun water park right here, you won't have to go far for watery thrills. If you're up for a day trip, Schlitterbahn Waterparks, one of the best in the nation, are located in New Braunfels.
One interesting aspect of life in Killeen is that a new restaurant is always opening. This isn't typical small-town dining. Where else in central Texas, aside from Austin or San Antonio, can you get fresh, high-quality Thai and Chinese food? Or, of course, great Tex-Mex? And to think, all of this is right here in Killeen. Even the grocery stores are out-of-the-box. Check out O Mart, a Korean market known for its Asian specialty dishes and bubble tea cafe.
