Rarely has a town been so impacted by geology as Point of Rocks. For starters, the town's unusual name comes from that unusual geology. The Catoctin Formation, visible from a particularly point on the Potomac (hence, "Point of Rocks") looms over this area, striking many a visitor with awe and wonder at the beauty of the natural world.
Today Point of Rocks still has that effect on visitors. Only perhaps more so, for time has had its chance to add even more mystery to the formation. Not only is the Catoctin Formation striking to look at, it also played a role in the Civil War, as a landmark for Confederate lieutenant J.S. Mosby, whose troops routed Jubal Early's not too far from here.
Point of Rocks is full of fascinating points of historical significance. Another such point is the old train station, on the National Register of Historic Places. The development of the great railroads during the latter half of the nineteenth century had an enormous impact on the town, adding wealth to its coffers and people to its Census reports. As a favorite battleground of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, who both sought control over the area's premium land, the town also played a role in settling that great rivalry in the transportation industry.
That's all good to know, but what is it like to live here today? Well, living in Point of Rocks seems to be a very social experience. This is a classic small town, complete with a community newspaper that announces many local events. Art at the Point, one local favorite, combines three things everyone loves: food, art, and music. Food is supplied by the best of the area's "food trucks," a popular and tasty trend that made its way into Point of Rocks long ago. As for local bands and artists, it's their time to shine. Throughout the rest of the year, seasonal events allow friends and neighbors to get together and celebrate, whether

Today people still love to live here as much as they did in the nineteenth century. New Home Source can help you experience the best of this historic town in one of our brand-new homes.
