This family-friendly little city on the river is a great choice for anyone hoping to balance a career in Tampa with a peaceful family life in the suburbs. It's close--but not too close--to the city, and near Brandon, one of Tampa's most-established suburbs, which has the area's best shopping and some of its best restaurants.
We weren't kidding when we said Riverview was family-friendly. Education is a priority for residents of this town. Undoubtedly, one of the best aspects of life in Riverview is its proximity to good schools. In 2007 a local teacher received the prestigious "Florida's Reading Teacher of the Year" award. Local Riverview High also excels in athletics, winning the district championship in football in 2005.
Riverview, like the name suggests, is a city on the banks of a river--the Alafia River. Residents soon discover many opportunities to get out and enjoy the advantages of its beautiful natural setting. We can even point you in the right direction. Try the Balm-Boyette Scrub and Triple Creek Nature Preserves. There's a 25-mile mountain bike trail with all the twists, turns, and sharp inclines that drew you to the sport, but also a shorter and milder hiking trail, to prevent collisions.
If you're just not a nature girl (or guy), the Riverview area is a great place to find a deal or two on your next shopping trip. There's a Walmart, Target, Kmart, and a Ross right in the area-- and that's not to mention the stellar shopping in nearby suburb Brandon, such as the Westfield Brandon Mall. There, you can stay on top of the trends at Express, Charlotte Russe, Forever XXI, LOFT, The Limited, and White House Black Market.
