Marietta is a captivating gem of the south, proud of their history. The Cobb County was named after Thomas Willis Cobb, and it is reported that Marietta was named after his wife. Just as family was of high importance in 1832 that remains true as they cherish strong family values today.
Preserving Marietta is high on the scale for residents. There are a number of museums including the Marietta Museum of History which takes you through the ages from the gold rush, to new inventions, and 19th century clothing to Civil War ammunition. You can take a tour across downtown, or discover the haunted mansions, and memorials, even take a moon lit carriage ride through the square. Strolling downtown is the shopping highlight of the city. The streets are lined with local boutiques, be sure to buy some antique jewelry along the way, or grab a bag of candy from Lizards and Lollipopz.
Of all the nearby parks, Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park may be the most memorable. More than one hundred years ago the Battle for Atlanta, during the Civil War, began on that very patch of land. Now the city commemorates the Park each year with events, while everyday locals can enjoy miles of hiking trails, and campsites, not to mention the breath taking view from the Kennesaw Mountain summit.
Marietta weekends are filled with attending community sporting events, or clubs like Martinis and Music, wine tastings, and bluegrass. And each year the city hosts numerous festivals like Fourth in the Park, and Christmas on the Square. All of which encourage you to get to know your neighbors, joining in on the music, rides, food, and activities for everyone. Many individuals enjoy picnics at Glover Park, while they watch their kids ride the train engine on the playground, as others find themselves golfing the afternoon away with a client.
While the atmosphere of southern hospitality and proud heritage is gladly accepted, there are still innovations towards diversity and the arts. Bridge the gap between fine art and design in the galleries, and attend a lyrical or dance show, there are even Polka Street Dancers in town. From Australian and Cajun, to Irish and Italian, there is a restaurant to quench any craving and a group of people where you'll find your niche.
If Marietta doesn't sound great enough I should probably mention Atlanta is only about 15 miles away. Any high-end fashion, fine dining, or energetic nightlife you could desire will be found here. From CNN headquarters, to Six Flags, and the Zoo Atlanta you can easily make it a day trip, or drive to Cumming, GA where you'll find Lake Sidney. Sidney is not only ideal for fishing, but you can take the boat out for water skiing, rent a jet ski, or just lounge out on the beach.
Marietta's southern charm is what makes it such a great place to live. Low crime rates, safe communities, and watchful neighbors make it easy to settle down with your family, big or small.
