McDonough, also known as The Geranium City, is located in Henry County, Georgia, southeast of Atlanta. It is noted for having eight major highways pass through or around it, and also as a designated National Main Street City and City of Character. This character, along with the many cultural events in the city, make it a popular and beloved destination for tourists and residents alike.

The city hosts great festivals and annual events, from The Geranium Festival in Spring to the Geranium Jam outdoor concert, to fall festivals and BBQ contests that celebrate the colorful autumn leaves. An enchanting Christmas Parade is accompanied by a 5K run known as The Jingle Jog. The Henry Players are a community theater group who stage productions throughout the year at Henry County Performing Arts Center in McDonough, while Henry Arts Alliance creates awareness of the arts through workshops and programs that focus on various aspects of the arts. The city and its residents are great supporters of the arts, with additional programs including McDonough Arts, and the sumptuous The Seasons Bistro also serves as showcase for local artists.

Ten community parks around McDonough provide access to a variety of facilities and amenities, including sports fields and courts that are all lighted, making them safe for use in the evenings. All the parks have walking and jogging paths, with Avalon Park and Red Hawk being the only exceptions. Golfers can check out at Cotton Fields Golf Club, with a spectacularly designed 18-hole course spread over 150 acres, before visiting Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club in neighboring Hampton.

Shopping is exceptionally convenient, from daily essentials at Publix or Target, to charming boutiques like J'Rose for fashion accessories and Secret Garden for home decor and accessories. National brands in McDonough include Marshall's, Ross, Kohl's, T.J. Maxx and J.C. Penney. Southlake Mall, with even more national and local brands, is only a 20 minute drive away.

Education from preschool to high school is overseen by Henry County School District, with over 40 public schools serving the county. The area also has nine private schools, and higher education is available through local campuses of University of Phoenix and Mercer University.

Living in McDonough will always be colorful, from the geraniums in spring and summer, to the lush colors of autumn leaves.
