You may not have heard of Brandywine, a historic city in Prince George's County, unless you're a history buff. No, this is not where the Revolutionary War-era Battle of Brandywine took place, but it is known for its architecture, which dates from the seventeenth century all the way to the Victorian era. It is possible to take a "walk through history" in Brandywine, simply by taking a look at the many historical buildings in the area.

Here are three buildings that you won't want to miss. The first is St. Paul's Parish Church, from the seventeenth century, which reminds residents of their roots as a devout colonial farming town. The second is the William W. Early House, an example of Queen Anne Victorian at its finest. And the third "must-see" is the Chapel of the Incarnation, a twentieth-century interpretation of the Spanish Mission style, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places itself.

Of course, for those with the patience to discover it, even older history awaits at the Piscataway Indian Museum. The Piscataway tribe occupied this land for centuries, and it still bears traces of their presence, best seen collected in this small but comprehensive museum.

A comfortable distance away from the hubbub of D.C., Brandywine is quiet and rural. In local terminology it's the best of "old Maryland." Not to mention it is very scenic. For a look at your new home, just head to Brandywine Lake, which borders the Brandywine Recreation Area. Bring your running shoes, your bike, or even your RV and enjoy the peace and quiet of rural Maryland. There's even a swimming beach to mimic the beach towns of the Maryland coastline, (although you may be tempted to drive a little farther to the real thing!)

Brandywine may not be a big city, but it has all you need, even good food--it's all right here in Brandywine. Local favorites like the upscale Bonefish Grill, the Italian joint mammaroma, and the New York Italian Deli, are sure to satisfy a wide range of culinary desires.

New Home Source wants to help you find a new home in an old town--the best of both worlds. Let us help you find a Brandywine new home with the beauty and classic elegance of your new hometown.
