While the city of Leander might not have a personalized nickname like Sports Center of Texas or Birthplace of the Cowboy, they have adopted be the saying Live Work Play, Learn Shop Stay. Clearly there is a lot in store for you. Before jumping in head first, like your 5th grade teacher used to say, "Kids, history can be fun!" Leander has a city rich of history. Leander, once Bagdad, established in 1882, has overcome many obstacles to become the city it is today. After settling, residents were subject to Indian attacks, joining the Civil War, and the Great Depression. Then they had the shortfall of declining the railroad through town, which resulted in the town moving a mile east to be closer to the trade and positive business as well as their name change to Leander, after Leander "Catfish" Brown, the man responsible for the rail line.

As a Leander local and the Leander Economic Development Director, Kirk Clennan, is constantly impressed by three things: Leander location, accessibility, and the schools. Leander is located in the middle of a booming hotspot. Within a 30 mile radius you'll find Cedar Park, Lakeway, Georgetown, Round Rock, Liberty Hill, Burnet, and Austin itself. Whether your job searching or adventure seeking, somewhere within all of those cities you're sure to find it. With interstates like 183, 45, 130, 35, and Mopac you'll soon find the ideal route to get you from place to place. Speaking of place to place, from elementary schools to high schools, Leander school districts are growing immensely. In both academics, and extracurricular activities like football and UIL, teachers and staff are doing their best to ensure students are equipped for the work force and high education.

After you get moved, possibly to one of the beautiful master planned communities in the area, you'll have to take an afternoon at the Crystal Falls golf course, recommended by Clennan. You are going to be impressed by the championship level golf course, stunning natural rolling landscape, and excellent staff. If you sign up for the EClub you get a free round of golf as a birthday present! Once you put the clubs away, you'll need to experience exceptional dining at Southern Pizza and Sports Bar, Shea's Place, La Copitia, or Moton's Southern Bistro. In the morning try Two Streets Baking Company and Café for a pastry or a pick me up espresso.

Residents love Volente Lake. With sandy beach fronts, water rides, and beach sports it is the perfect way to spend a Saturday in the sun. Not to mention the Volente Shore restaurant and beachside tiki bar. If that's too busy try the Georgetown Blue Hole, it's a hidden gem with limestone cliffs, waterfalls, and wading pools, a knock off of Austin's Barton Springs. While rocking the swimsuits is perfect for hot Texas summers, layering up the sweaters for a game of Paintball at Leander Paint Alliance is how many locals bring in the fall. Apart from that there are tons of great educational and historical places in the city, and even public art exhibits to showcase local talent.

You'll quickly find that the people are friendly, part of why it's become such an Austin outlet from the city crime, traffic, and hectic pace. Leander is perfect for raising a family and settling down. Don't let the opportunity pass you up like the people of Bagdad did in the 80s!
